  • Wow the timing is amazing two great voices together now singing together forever RIP Aliyah and Mrs Whitney Houston We Will Always Love You Both !!!!! Thank you your music lives on............

  • Does anyone know what the highest quality available is of this song? Im looking for the original leak mp3. plz help. Many files have been re-compressed from another mp3

  • i can tell that this video was worked very hard on....it looks almost as if she was actually lip synching. RIP Aaliyah. she had a voice like no other!!

  • OMG Aaliyah killed it this song is beautiful

  • this character is not the lead its the sister that died off of drugs

  • @michelee1471 She was just being tested, though she was going to sing lead.

  • Oh contrare GarudaStudio. They actually wanted to test Aaliyah's voice for the strongest song on the film which is/was givin up. So they had her to record it. The movie was scrapped the song remained unreleased for the longest of time. Then was leaked and got around. Freaking awesome. Not even planning to see the remake so disappointed with this "new cast" it should have remained on the shelf. Ugh

  • @lcarprin i AGREE WITH YOU ESLLY AFTER HEARING Ti CANT EVEN IMAGINE SEEING IT WITH OUT HER

  • You LewwSpally87 are FREAKING amazing. That was awesome.

  • bref! c de la merde! mieux vaut écouter donny hathaway! et il à d'autres morseaux tout aussi puissant sans ce son de merde

  • trop facile! donny hathaway! pfff! alors qu'on ne fait que de la merde!

  • Glad this movie is coming to life finally thanks to Whitney Houston for waiting 10 years and this was one of the first of many lewspally videos i saw back in 2009 first one to do this video <3 :] hope they add her version in the film and on the soundtrack too

  • whitneyhouston should deciate the movie to Aaliyah before the credits role. yup.

  • @Bren17Spen to both of them now

  • I AM IN LOVE WITH THIS SONG AND THIS VIDEO!! thank you so much for making it( :

  • Nice song, what label will the soundtrack be on?

  • Wow!!! This is one of my favorite songs. I was in that type of down mood today and wanted to hear a lil Donny; was truly shocked to stumble upon this. Aaliyah is my favorite. Thanks for posting this and great job with the editing.

  • This song gives me the chills, her vioce is so beautiful.

  • I truly do miss this talent here on Earth.

  • so sad she really passed before her time

her last album was truly one of the best R&B album ever released

  • It's so hard to believe she's dead. *tear*

  • this song always gets me ready to cry =,,,(

  • I always thought it was pretty coo that Whitney Houston personally handpicked Aaliyah for the leading role of Sparkle (W.H's first choice btw), Aaliyah's vocals in this song is strong and you can tell she was feeling this song. She was beautiful, she could sing, she was sweet, she was smart, she could dance and most of all she was a hard worker she was the perfect ideal women for any man who know what a REAL woman is and Aaliyah was just that a REAL woman..and she cared about her fans R.I.H ma!

  • Damn - this song brought tears to my eyes.

  • Do you have evidence that this was recorded for a "Sparkle" remake? How could Aaliyah have doen a record for a film that was never went into production?

While "Giving Up" is featured in "Sparkle", the song predates the film by 12 years. It was a hit in 1964 for The Pips, led by Gladys Knight - who was Aaliyah's aunt at one time - and was later covered in 1971 by Donny Hathaway. The song has its own life and legacy; its association with "Sparkle" is a footnote.

  • @GarudaStudio If you look here on youtube. She did an interview for the movie promoting sparkle.I believe it was on the v-channel. She was indeed going to do the movie.

  • @2muchwomen4u1 I'm aware she was going to do the movie, but the movie never got any further than preliminary development before Aaliyah's passing. There wouldn't've been any recordings done for the film at such an early stage and without a final script. That's why I said this isn't likely to have been recorded for a "Sparkle" remake.

  • @GarudaStudio

Whitney made Aaliyah sing this song as a test... and she passed it.

  • To think this movie was supposed to star Aaliyah nearly ten years ago and is back in development really makes me think Aaliyah was ahead of her time. She was going to play in an old "soul" sort of movie years before anyone else got the idea...

  • she wasnt even finished with this track wow! i love it for the fact she would have done excellent even whitney houston knew that duh! lol

  • thumbs up if she would have totally made this movie somthin awsome to watch!!!!

  • I'm the galaxy's biggest Aaliyah fan and I've never heard this song. It really hurts my heart to hear this knowing that she never had a chance to do the movie...

  • @teehoward1 oh baby please! every HUGE DIE HARD liyah fan been heard this! lol JK JK!

  • @AaliyahDawnTeam2 LOL! Touche'...

  • i loooooove how you did the video<3 givin you a personal thank you :)

  • I wonder if they might include this for the new sparkle movie as an extra or something

  • @bajeboi I hope so. :)

  • I like the original a little better..

  • love it go aaliyah sing it

  • This song sounds like it holds all of the "what ifs" that fans have to deal with forever, knowing that Aaliyah's gone. It's some sad shit :( I love this girl..

  • Oscar material for sure

  • @EdTV20 Yes, I can agree.

  • Just gives me chills....this young ladies beautiful voice was sometimes overshadowed by the type of music she did, but when she goes back to ballads and such she truly showcases her voice. Truly missed in the music industry and this earth. Kindred spirit!

  • BEAUTIFUL WOMEN, GREAT LEGACY, AALIYAH FOREVER!!!!

  • Who ever disliked this damn song needs to get slapped in the GOT DAMN FACE. they must not know what real music is. R.I.P Aaliyah! I'm sad to say that you still have HATERS smh.

  • AW man. beautiful beautiful beautiful beautiful BEAUTIFUL !

  • I am VERY protective, I guess you could say, over Sparkle so I was not excited about seeing this video (even though Aaliyah is a true true legend)! But she got it!! I don't think the music had the original blues feel at times but she definitely did Sparkle proud even doing it her way. This is good!

  • Still my fav singer

  • R.I.P AALIYAH ILY!!!!

  • besides this being my fav song by Donnie Hathaway...& also 1 of my fav parts when SISTER played the role! I am now loving this version too! go babygurl Aaliyah!

  • You did an amazing job with the editing. Each word was in sync with her lips and the images had me in tears. Thank you for loving Queen Aaliyah just as much as I do to do her justice.

  • Beautifully put together. Her lips were on point with the singing as if she was singing this live. Perfection. Great tribute. I love her voice. R.I.P. BabyGirl. You are forever missed.

  • Bro im sorry but AALIYAH GOT THIS DOWN!!!!! its like she added a womens touch on the song lol @LewwSpally87 I truly thank you for sharing this epic song with me lol

  • She did a great cover of such a great classic both donny and aaliyah were some of the best singers wwho ever lived R.I.P. both of them

  • She would've been good as "sister" in sparkle. love her rendition

  • Thanks for posting this. Never knew Aaliyah made a version of this song....I adore Donny Hathaway's rendition of it and seems like Aaliyah was definitely influenced by Donny's version. Beautiful job...I only wish that she were still here. Rest in peace, Babygirl.

  • I miss her ... she did a great job with this song !!!

  • i loved this movie and have this movie...she would have been amazing!

  • This video gave me chills, I also enjoy Donny Hathaway's version...thanks for sharing. I never knew she had a version of this song.

  • CAN YOU PLEASE TELL ME WHAT PROGRAM YOU USED TO PUT THE VIDEOS TOGETHER AND UPLOAD ON YOUTUBE?

  • In the words of Lady Gaga "Anyone can have a strong voice but it's nothing if the lacks emotion" and She (Aaliyah) gives you both without over doing it

  • I didn't know they were going to do a remake sparkle...she should've been cast for sparkle not sister....dreamgirls sucks..I hate that movie I thought it was boring and confusing....

  • The First time i heard this i cried and i had butterflies! Have U Heard Aaliyah's Voice? It sounds like Heaven! It make you wanna Cry! It makes you wanna cry even more to know she's not here and she's never coming back! This song is AMAZING! I LOVE YOU AALIYAH R.I.P

  • i never knew her voice was this powerful

  • Haven't cried in years but this video just brought me to tears. Love you baby girl...... I would have been the first in line to watch you perform this in the re-make of Sparkle.

  • This makes me think of my ex...I haven't given up. I still have faith in him and I.

  • @thobbs48 I feel you. This song reminds me of a guy I was involved with as well but he was poison to me. If you look at the movie Sparkle, Sister died at the end. I think continuing that relationship would have caused me the same effect or close. Every time I came back, it got worst.

  • @wynterstorm04 Why would you tell the end of the movie...If I wanted to watch it and never seen it before you would've ruined it for me....

  • @aatre05 That movie is over 30 years old so assumed you saw it. Anyway worst things happen so get over it.

  • did ya'll know she was originally suppose to be on family matters too

  • @SuchADamnFreak and in Charlie's Angels

  • @SuchADamnFreak What??? As who?....Thats show started in the 90's she didn't come out until 94 and the show was already out while she was going to school in Detroit....

  • @aatre05 Look it up.. she was like the very first judy... but it didnt last long

  • @SuchADamnFreak Yeah I did and didn't find anything...I don't believe you until you find me some real proof then I will because it doesn't make any sense she was only 14 in 94 so how could she play the Aunt....

  • @aatre05 judy was laura sister.. lol.. clearly you didnt watch the older shows..lol... try again baby the aunt was rachel baby

  • @SuchADamnFreak I have...I was just think that was her aunt..I got mixed up...I'm the one that notice that judy was gone in my family...But still how could she play her little sister..I need some proof...

  • I love her soooooooooo much n she will always be # 1she sound so beautiful rip Aaliyah

  • Ok, not hating, but compared to a Sparkle remake with Aaliyah as SIster... Dreamgirls who?!?

  • Always loved this song, didn't know that Aaliyah had done a remake of it. As with everything she did, she did a great job on this song. May she continue to rest in peace, she left us way too soon

  • Great Song, loved it!!

  • Oooh What Flawless Talent! I Know She Had An Amazing Movie Contract Deal To Do A Few Movies. She Was Already An Amazing Actress In Her Roles' As Trisha & Akasha. It's Rare When A Recording Artist Can Bring To Life Different Characters And Make Them Their/Her Own. She Was Such A Versatile Singer As Well. She Was Already An Amazing Entertainer When She Made Her Movie Debut And Following The Release Of The Red Album, You Can Clearly See Just How /\M/\ZING She Would Have Been Still Living 2DAY<3

  • how many movies did she do?

  • @AlylovesDP She did two, "Romeo Must Die" and "Queen Of The Damned". She was suppose to be in "Sparkle", "Honey", "The Matrix", and a movie that was suppose to be directed by Whitney Houston. That would have been 6. She said she was reading many scripts.

  • @KeesusChrist Aaliyah & Ginuwine were suppose to be in the 2004 Movie You Got Served. Ginuwine was suppose to be Marques Houston's Character & Aaliyah was suppose to play Jennifer Freeman's role.

  • @1990babyface I thought you got served was made after she died...

  • @aatre05 It was & she was scheduled to be in that future film. Sparkle is the movie directed by Whitney Houston. She was suppose to be in Sparkle, Honey, Matrix 2, Matrix 3, & You Got Served. She accomplished finishing Romeo Must Die & Queen Of The Damned. 7 Movies in all she was going to appear in. She wouldve taken over hollywood films & gotten Oscars. She should have her name on the Walk Of Fame.

  • I love her voice in this song. She would've done a great job in the movie!

  • It makes me so sad knowing I won't get to see her remake of sparkle it's one of my favorite movies and she's one of my favorite singers

  • AAliyah had such an amazing voice it sooth you and brought you into her world, and not only that she gave you sexy thug tomboyish style with a hit of class, she dance her ass off. she was well package, I believe because you love her craft. all them gurls got there belly dancing from her. she brought a lot of style to dance also.

  • i jus started krying. i luv her so much nd its hard to except dha fact shee rlly gone! Damn i miss u aaliyah!

  • Absolutely Fantastic cover..Damn she Snapped love this girl *tear*

  • I have been looking all over for this song and no one ever knew what I was talking thank you so much for putting this on here. I miss Aaliyah big what a great artist but I first learned of this song from the original movie sparkle. Thank you so much :-) :-)...Nickie!!!!

  • This video is great. It is cut to fit the song as if she is really singing it. Great job.

  • I want the mp3 version of this song..OMG i can so relate to this song Aaliyah did her thing on this track..

  • I like the presence of the rose. This is nicely synchronized. I only wished you would've used more scenes from Sparkle.

  • A nice version of Donny Hathaway's masterpiece....Donny still has the edge though.....as nice as this is....The programmed drums kind of killed it for me....along with the autotune effect....

  • @stuielad

    she didn't use autotune

  • I had no idea she re-did this. I'll be saving this as a favorite.

  • @benrotten Since the remake is definitely happening now, do you guys think they'll release this on the soundtrack? I would fully support the movie if they did.

  • @Nikelea They should because she did the damn thang on this track. But what if they made the actress who'll be portraying Aaliyah sing the song instead? Would you still buy the soundtrack?

  • @benrotten I know right. If they only had the actress who is supposed to portray her, probably not. But if they did, it'd have to be one hell of a soundtrack/movie for me to support.

  • BEAUTIFUL :'(

  • I wrote a song for those who have lost hope.. stay strong be confident in who you are. Please listen to my song :)

  • Sometimes I wish she liyah would have stepped more out of that falsetto. She had a very powerful alto mezzo-soprano lower register. The falsetto sounded sweet but its the reason why people thought and still think to this day that she was a weak singer. SHE SHOULDVE HAD MORE POWERFUL ballads. I guess the producers wanted to give her a unique sound and really paid on that term "street but sweet". There were other artists emerging when she did and her producers wanted to make her unique.

  • This song got me in tears....

  • WHERE CAN I GET THIS SONG?????!!!!!!

  • this was really nice video. this one of my favs songs that donny sings, i never knew aaliyah covered it! thank you for posting her beautiful missed voice on yt.

  • Go listen to Jennifer Holiday sing this. She blows it out the water.

  • Listening to this song is "hard to do" knowing that she is never coming back...

  • @beyonceloveher20 That is exactly how I feel

  • @beyonceloveher20 we're ALL never coming back

  • I'm so upset right now, because I feel as soon as Aaliyah passed a certain unoriginal bitch copped all what she was supposed to do, but Aaliyah was the best to ever do it. Sparkle is the original film, dreamgirls came out of...it was based on Sparkle. Aaliyah would have definately won an oscar for best supporting actress if she had a chance to film this. 2004 she would of copped that oscar award. I hope they release this song for her 10th anniversary next year.

  • @CarlaJou1 I know what you mean. And I think I know who you're talking about. Beyonce, right? It seemed like Beyonce picked up where Aaliyah left off in her career and life with movies, marriage, and more. This girl had so much potential. The sad part about it is, she actually put in the time to work and progress. She didn't sell her soul or back stab anybody to achieve instant fame. I don't know why she was taken so soon. Just the thought of her blossoming into something more, smh...

  • Great job with the vid! Love how you got a lot of the words meeting up with Aaliyah's mouth.:) I'm at this point in my life right now..this song tells it all.. Pray for me!!..

  • i love this where can i find it great job on the vid

  • where would i find this song it blew me away

  • OMG! I Never new Aaliyah covered this classic??? WOW! She was one of the most Soulful Young Artists of our time! R.I.P. Aaliyah & Donnie!

  • This video is very well put together. I would have loved to see that remake of Sparkle with her in it.....great movie

  • Wow...this is amazing! I love this song by the late, great Donny Hathaway. Aaliyah has done the best female version that I've heard. I even like Aaliyah's rendition better than Jennifer Holliday's. I truly miss her presence on the music scene. Thanks for posting!

  • this is great keep up the good work..

  • Babygirl did a good job wit dis song....i wish she was still here none of the female singers now can touch her....gone but never forgotten LUV U AALIYAH

  • Mane I wish she was still livin so bad. She would hve did good playing Sister too.

  • LOVE THIS SONG

  • Beyonce's only true competition..."Aaliyah" gone but never forgotten....Love ya lil sis

Aaliyah....singing for them and shining like only she can...in Paradise....

  • @dacianey3 Even though I'm a Beyonce fan too, I'm an even bigger fan of Aaliyah's, and I definitely love her way more. Just seeing your comment, and watching all of this Aaliyah footage that I haven't seen before, it's heartbreaking. Knowing that she could have gave Beyonce a run for her money, with the pedestal Beyonce is placed on, it would have been beautiful to see somebody that was humble and actually down to earth do it. Her legacy continues but it could have been much more, omg.

  • First time I heard this (by her) song I couldn't believe it. When she belted "and bring you happiness" I just started cryin.. The restarted the song and played it to that part about 4 times b4 I even heard the rest. So captivating.

  • jealous cnt find this anywhere and im trying to put together the perfect aaliyah mix

  • I MUST SAY I ENJOY ENJOY GLADYS KNIGHT & THE PIPS VERSION!

  • this is sucha beautiful video

  • As a person who has never been an Aaliyah fan, I must say she covered this classic very well.

  • COME ON MS AALIYAH

  • i thought 2 days to use it for my Loveparade Disaster Video (24.July2010 - 21 young People died at this Festival because of stupid-criminal Organisation)

i was there and had the luck to be 40min before at this tunnel of dead...

  • @AnotherAgain18

whitney houston approved, so thats ALL that matters.

  • all i can say is good god all might #thatisall her name is AAliyah dana haughton $ever the queen

  • Awesome editing. Love this song :)

  • just great, the song and your video spally

  • man can you image her as beyonce's character in dreamgirls! man that would have been a movie with power! i mean aaliyah has the benefit of actually being able to act! man.....that would have been awesome! aaliyah, jennifer hudson, anika noni rose! come on! awesome!

  • @huggybear1218 Babygirl would have been fabulous in Sparkle, and you know what if she got the chance to do this movie, there would not been a dreamgirls movie because there would be no need. She would have set the standard, and this would have been Aaliyah's oscar moment. I still kick myself she's no longer on earth...so heartbreaking.

  • @huggybear1218 I know. Aaliyah had more passion in her acting. She would have been a great Deena because she naturally had the thin appearance and she was much softer than Beyonce. I could easily see her looking hurt while being used by Curtis in the move.

  • SIMPLY AMAZING

  • You edited this video beautifully....HUGE kudos...Aaliyah is SLAYING this song....love Donny's rendition and love the orig movie version too...it's about emotion pouring out of the vocalist soul! this track is a killer! Love love love love!

  • I need this song in my life OMG

  • She really works this song! I love the movie "Sparkle" and it would have been interesting to see a remake. I wish they would release the soundtrack with the movie's vocal track and not Aretha Franklin's.

  • I love this song..

  • Damn, no wonder BeYawnSay had Aaliyah killed. Do your research...her plane crash wasn't an accident. Just look who BeYawnSay's involved with.

  • @deepplay wat?

  • @deepplay please ! where is the research ?!

  • omg this song made me cry i love her

  • You did a Phenomenal job editing this

  • I would have loved to have seen her perform this live. That would have been something really special. <3<3<3

  • Idk who version is best Aaliyah's or Donny Hathaway because the both sang the song very good

  • whoever put this video together made it perfect, for a moment I thought she was actually singing for this particular song, but its pieces of all her video's! Wonderful!
