@barrett90 In all fairness, that's because this is Steve Miller when he was just starting out (1968). He needed a few more years experience to develop into the singer of such awesome hits like "The Joker" and "Fly Like an Eagle."
What an Album!!!!!! The cover design is real cool. Saw Steve at The Royal Albert Hall on Thursday. Didn't realize that his first 3 albums were produced in London (my home town!).
This was NOT on their first album Children of the Future it was on Sailor their 2nd album and both were fine as aged wine in fact the first 4 studio albums were all great he sorta went down hill in the 70's with a few exceptions his brand new album Jingo is a return to his blues rock from the Steve Miller Blues Band.
Stevie "Guitar" Miller is playing in Eagle, ID tonight! What is your favorite song from these guys? I like Steve Miller and his band because he is rock and blues but this song makes you realize that he actually was from San Fransisco in '67. I plan on just going down and bringing my cooler and chillin' out in the parking lot and cooking some chorizos and listening cool sounds of the sixties and seventies! Already seen them live, great band.
This was an early acid sound. Peeps that were tripping gravitated towards their sound for warding off bad trips and elevating the good ones. Early sweet head sounds of genious.
if you guy's like steve miller and quicksilvermessenger service-check out QMS' guitarist john cippolina's solo stuff, there's a video on youtube of a song called "unvicious circle"...it'll blow your mind-john cippolina was a hugely underrated guitarist and effectively created the whole classical/rock/instrumental genre-as well as being the main guitarist for QMS
If I had lived back in them golden days, i would have found Julia Bridgen Freiburg Quicksilver Girl and her buddy Martha, and done the Texas meat mash on their bay areas.
wow, man mabee i should have put good infront of that "shit", i meant i am disappointed in how few people my age listen to this, I love most of the Miller Band's albums, especially the first five
I am sixteen and Steve Miller is my favorite. My dad got hooked on him when he heard him and then met him and they were actually pretty good friends. I was raised on Steve Miller.
PsychedelicBB I got what you were saying right away. Bet more than a few un-knowing people who gave you thumbs down don't know that Psychedelic BB is part of a title of a Steve Miller song from his first record. I just gave you a thumbs UP to take one of the know nothings away. I was your age when this song came out. Steve Miller was a fave local SF Band of mine at the time, Think it's great you dig it. U are a cool cat unlike them who didn't get it. Happy Trails PsychBB!
No! I know the woman. She is beautiful, educated and had the Jefferson Airplane in love with her. She married Steve Miller. They had a daughter together.
That's not true, is it? I thought it's about Julia (Dreyer) Freiberg who married David Freiberg of the Quicksilver Messenger Service. David was also in Jefferson Airplane. Jefferson Airplane morphed into Jefferson Starship. David was in that group too.
The information about Julia Freiberg is from a webpage titled "When Martha and Girl Met David and David and Paul and Skippy and Dino and Michael and...". The webpage is part of a site which has information about a book written by Jeff Tamarkin. The author corresponded with Martha Wax and interviewed her friend Julia who inspired the Steve Miller Band song "Quicksilver Girl". According to the webpage, the Jefferson Airplane song "Martha" is about Martha Wax.
Julia Freiberg was interviewed in an article called "Summer of Love: 40 Years Later Julia Brigden (Girl Freiberg)" which was published on May 20, 2007 in the San Francisco Chronicle. The article was written by Joel Selvin who is a San Francisco based music critic. Mr. Selvin has interviewed many SF bay area musicians and singers. The article is posted on the SF Gate website.
Joel Selvin wrote a series articles for the SF Chronicle under the heading of "Summer of Love: 40 Years Later" which can be found on the SF Gate site.
I wasn't sure if you had seen the other articles. The article "When Martha and Girl Met David and David and Paul and Skippy and Dino and Michael..." can be found at the "gotarevolution" site. I'm not kidding, that's the name of the article!
Interesting that this was in the Big Chill, when that soundtrack was mostly Motown hits (Marvin Gaye, the Temps, etc.)

@electricrevelations Cippolina toured the Uk with Man, a Welsh band I know.
Gone now, as is the Man band's Micky Jones (another great guitarist).

Yep thought it was a great name for it too.
I live a bit south of SF so SF Chron & Joel is & all that stuff was local & I enjoyed reading about it all these years latter.
You read Joel's book "High Times in the Wild West" it's a good one about the whole SF 60's thing.
