  • Dedicated to James Jenney who died on December 16th 2011. This song describes his feelings and the way he chose to live. I miss my friend and the laughs , beers, and tears we used to have listening to this song. Rest in Peace James

  • You were gonna take me to those mountains Grandpa. Remember? We used to sing this song and smile and laugh, "We'll see those Mountains one day, kid. You'll see." I belived you too. "Everything's gonna turn out fine and we'll get there. Those Mountains are waiting." Well Grandpa.. You got there before me, and that's okay. I forgive you. But you had better save me some of that Candy until I join you.

R.I.P Granda John. See you when it's my turn to reach those mountains.

  • super nice video:) gave me a good laugh:)

  • This song makes me very happy...

  • The song is a classic.....the video a very nice homage. I liked it.

  • A great song AND a great video. A labor of love, and that counts in my book.

  • if you havent heard the Music soundtrack to the movie "Oh Brother where art thou" -you really don't know what your missing -it has a Bunch of these 20's and 30's Era songs (including this one) - Warning, it's addictive!!!

  • lol this song

  • I cant believe our video got so many views!!!!!! check out some other stuff on my youtube

  • "Where they hung the jerk, who invented work" hah

  • @DodgeMan360 I actually think it's "hung the TURK who invented work." Sure, its a little xenophobic, etc., but remember that not long before the time this song was recorded, black face was a totally accepted, and acceptable, form of entertainment. That just shows you how much our societal norms have changed...

  • Great song...sucky video

  • i liked that u guys good work

    ... p.s i half drunk and fully stoned =-)

  • i liked that u guys good word... p.s i half drunk and fully stoned =-)

  • This song is a hobo's view of what Heaven would look like. Where they hung the jerk that invented work. Gotta love it.

  • A funny video inpired by an incredible song, nice work.

  • 12 dislikes are from people without souls

  • what a awesome video :)

  • Is it just Me or does the Singer F*k up singing: "The Blue Blurd sings in the Blig rock candy mountains"?!

  • L.L. bean comercial brought me here, they got the song stuck in my head

  • this song was sung during the depression and technicly yes the big rock candy mountian is where hobos and bums wanted to go. but they sung it because they were hungry and tired and needed help. oh what happened to the country. if every thing really went to the crapper, instead of trying to help themselves, alot of people whould sit there and cry about it but oh no they dont do anything they want someone else to do it for them. if ur one of those people i whould change if i were u.

  • You did a wondeful job with the video. I'm a retired engineer. The hobos (real ones) had started to dwindle in numbers when I went to work (1970). Now all that ride trains are illegals and people you want to avoid. BTW...The old time hobos referred to themselves as "bos" and could tell you where every train was headed and where the good places to go were. Some of those I met in the 70's had been at it since before WWII. Do not try it now...Post 9/11 the RR cops are really paranoid re riders.

  • Sounds like somethin off of that stupid cartoon......Pancake or somethin like that..anyways.. great song.

  • Great Job!!

  • L.L. Bean commercial brought me here

  • Good Job!

  • i love o'brother where art thou it is the best old movie i've ever seen and has the best country music

  • hahaha i love it. how much freetime did they have on their hands??? i have got to hang with these people.

  • Wonderful video, captures the essence of the song. LIKE!

  • This is great! I love how sincere it is. (sorry, thats my favorite word.)

  • you guys did a good job..

  • Excellent work! Is this in PA?

  • My dad road the trains as a hobo during the depression. He told me there were lawyers doing it. He said he hopped a train and road it all the way to montana where he got off and walked out of his shoes without knowing it, it was so cold. A family there gave him an overcoat made out of buffallo.

  • You guys are hilarious! i love the song and your video is delightful! Keep up the good work!

  • the Depression Era mountain Music of the 20's and 30's was truly heartfelt and amazing - there really is nothing else like it!

im afaraid weve allowed the Media to label this music as ignorant or hillbilly Music, when in reality the style is very unique, easy to listen to and the lyrics are heart-warming and genuine -you can keep lady Ga Ga and P-diddy.

  • @kevink040 it does sound like hillbilly music tho it can be a unique hillbilly genre.

  • @kevink040 do you know any other songs like this?

  • @solokeith5000 John Cash sang a song on the American Recordings label the song is I believe one of his best its bare naked true and its life along with death the bitter and the sweet end of a cowboy. The song is named " A cowboys prayer" it isn't whimsical it is great folk music written by none other than Chris Christofferson.

The entire album is IMO some of John Cash's best it is he nearing the end of his life and career able to show what we really want passion some day it will be lauded.

  • @solokeith5000 sorry for the delay in getting back to you (this is an old account I rarely ever visit) - if you havent heard the Music soundtrack to the movie "Oh Brother where art thou" -you really don't know what your missing -it has a Bunch of these 20's and 30's Era songs (including this one) - Warning, it's addictive!!!

  • @kevink040 the term "hillybilly music" didnt have the same negative connotation in the 1920's and 30's. that was simply what the broad genre of southern white folk music was referred to, although this song specifically probably would have just been called "folk"

  • Remake? This was recorded in 1926! :P The guy singing it died in 1957.

  • @OdessaChristie

Nothing you said seemed that bad, please point out what's wrong with limiting human contact, I don't want to watch people cling all over each other anytime I'm trying to just relax in the park. Plus, the war must have been for a good reason considering you're not a commuinist, though after the comment I'm not so sure. Alright, African-American's may have been treated badly, but what was keeping them here and not back in Africa?

  • @CaptianBrickbeard ARE YOU SERIOUS!? You have got to be kidding me. I'm going to guess you're white. What's stopping you from going back to England? What's stopping me from going back to Ireland or Germany? Well, I was raised here. I'm not from there. I originated from those countries yes, but I am an American. Like the African-AMERICAN's were. "Limiting human contact"!? It was not called "limiting human contact" it was segregation. And the war was horrible and MANY people died. WAR is not good.

  • @TheRetroHamster

Yeah I'm serious, nothing's stopping me. regardless, that'snot how it works here. I'm Indian, American Indian. You know, from here.

  • @CaptianBrickbeard So you want to stay here because you are from here right? Yeah, that's how they felt. They were born and raised in America, It's Their home. Do you even know that most Native-American's crossed the Bering Land Bridge, came up from Mexico, or some other way. But you were born in America, so you stay here.

  • @TheRetroHamster

Ergo, you should get off my back, as you weren't born there.

  • @TheRetroHamster

To add to the previous comment, I wasn't talking about segreation, I was talking about not having people rubbing all over each other regardless of who they are. Then you classify war as being bad, let me guess...you work in the school system or you're some sort of government official. War's what got you the right to be where you are today. Without it, we'd still be sipping tea under the queen's rule. If you can think up a logical arguement, I'd be glad to hear it

  • @CaptianBrickbeard Yeah I can. Actually I'm 15. So, no, I cannot legally have a job without it being classified as child labor. And I said war was wrong and bad. I never said it wasn't necessary, cause sometimes it is. Besides, the Queen doesn't rule. She's just a public figure. No one person rules. The Prime minister, Gordon Brown, is the equivolent of the President of the U.S.A and he is backed by the Labour party. England is Democratic, get the facts straight. Then post a reply.

  • i love this song i can sing it word for word and the wesholig part

  • Hilarious! Thanks for the laugh! :o)

  • alphaomega69: You were robbed of your rightful heritage more than you can possibly know or realize. The majority of us were. And if per chance you were ever discover to what extent you were robbed, you will never buy into the political lie of SOCIAL EGALITARIANISM again. As it currently stands, all North America is living a grand delusion and we are only just beginning to pay the price for it now.

    Have a blessed day

  • aw drop the sarcasm my friend. Enjoy the mood. lol

  • Sweet video.

  • haha good video :)

  • your a very smart kid alphaomega... and your more than right..

  • this is the recording from 1923. they just used it in the film

  • Funny as Hell!... from your northern hillbilly cousins! Love it!

  • last one i sware XD well lastly i want to say at least today i can walk down the street and not need a gun or a sword to keep safe tho bad stuff happens yus its still messed up place but still go back in cowboy days need a gun to not get killed by bandits and indians or farther back same still but its a sword instead history has its horror storys that people over look and wanna only see glamor things in its past olden days were not better and some ages far far far worse

  • also 40-50 years ago would make it the 50's where many gays were beaten almost to death just because they were gay and what if you were black had to sit in back of bus were kicked out places and separated cause of color the KKK was bad on killing even worse in the 20's and 30's now those times did have great moments but just remember back then alot of bad things went on just as well as they did today

  • Here in Douglas Wyoming the "Saggy" bottom boys come and play every year. they are pretty good. not the official soggy bottom boys though.

  • MOST AWESOME VIDEO EVAR!!

  • Wow, this is the first time I actually pay attention to the lyrics...'in the big rock candy mountains, all the cops have wooden legs - and the bulldogs all have rubber teeth, and the hens lay soft-boiled eggs'. Beautiful!!!

  • i enjoyed this!

  • "oh george not the livestock" and "do you think you got banned from the one woolsworth or the whole chain?" best lines from the movie

  • thanx all for your kind words/comments.

  • The Big Rock Candy Mountain is a pipe dream... it don't exist

  • You figured that out all by yourself, didn't you Sherlock?

  • @Quisite Haha, he should also improve his grammar. Stop complaining about the world if your not going to change it.

  • @guyfawkesistaken Stop commenting on someone else's grammar when you can't even spell "you are".

  • @Quisite How about you kiss my dick? That is why the pronoun "Your" was created. The period should be on the inside of the quotation. Report me so I can go to Cyber-jail.

  • @guyfawkesistaken the jails are made of tin. you can walk righ out again as soon as you are in. : D

  • i love this song & the video is so odd but i love it!

  • sweet video

  • looks like you guys really had fun making this

  • The sheer glee in this video matches perfectly with the song. I like it.

  • rotflmao no seriously.

    bravo on music choice

  • what is wrong withthis world now a days. im only 16 but when i survey this world i see how far we've fell in the last century. i feel robbed of what lifei could have had maybe 40 or 50 years ago..... but too late for that. i love this song

  • @alphaomega69woo

    tottaly

  • Would you care to elaborate on that contention?

  • right on.

  • @alphaomega69woo

you can go out and find some pretty remote places yet......the herd tends to congregate in cities...start with the national parks till you decide to permanently disappear....I remember lakes in nebraska with tadpoles...i've never seen again....1965 or 66. its all pretty much gone? far from it....stay in there alpha/omega...you will be suprised ...go to the Badlands in South Dakota..that will clear anyone's soul..

  • @alphaomega69woo, i fully agree with you. what a shame.

  • @alphaomega69woo worlds always been a messed up place and alot of bad things went on back those days too but you can do anything you set your mind to you over come the things in your way you can do most anything and we haven't fell see its like a cycle of ups and downs we may be down now but we well rise again thats how the economy and most things are in a cycle

  • @alphaomega69woo its alright kid. Life is what you make it no matter what century yer in

  • @alphaomega69woo you were born for these times my brother : )

  • im with you on that ...i think the same way..and the same thang ....i feel like i should not even be in this new world...i like old ways better ..and the way you had actually work back then lol ......later

  • @alphaomega69woo You are wise beyond your years my friend. It is the smart ahole's like Quisite who help to destroy what good there is.

Be blest, stay strong and Be The Change You Want To See.

    Handshakes and High Fives

  • @alphaomega69woo Yea, because I would have loved to live in a world where African Americans were treated as second class citizens and my brother would have been drafted to serve in a ridiculous war to stop communism and I wouldn't be able to hold my girlfriend's hand without getting a beating or getting arrested. Yep, the music sure is worth dealing with all of that.

  • @OdessaChristie

Yeah I mean it was so ideal back then, everything was a perfect picnic. I mean the Great Depression was a ton of laughs and the wars were just great!

Don't forget the lack of technology, poor education, and lower standards of living. I mean, it's awesome!

  • @LaBellaRosa Thank you for saying that about the past. I'm glad that there are other people that see that the past is just as bad (if not worse), than today's times.

  • @OdessaChristie Thank you so much for that. You gave me hope that our generation isn't full of idiots.

  • @alphaomega69woo No Honor onething thats wrong today

  • @alphaomega69woo ur a mind reader :o ....bwt : i totally agree and im only 13

  • @Suskygirl Liked again on accident. I just turned 15 and I disagree. Our generation needs to grow up and and stop thinking everything is handed to them. THE PAST WAS HORRIBLE! Racism, Dictators, ect. No internet, cell phone, computer, "portable music devices", ect. I want to see you try and survive 40 or 50 years in the past. Be 13 and stop thinking that everything is horrible and the past was great. History repeats. The oil spill; Exxon Valdez 1989. Attack on American Soil? Pearl Harbor 1941.

  • @TheRetroHamster atleast back then there wsa no tv ipods computers to influence ppl... personally have gone yaers wihtout these and i have turned out fine imo.....but... youve onyl poitned out the cons...you need to learn so pros like: no terrorists; no junk food like amp and twinkies to kill our health--hence obesity and btw.. if i were to choose a time period id choose early 1890s- 1910s

  • @alphaomega69woo tard.

  • @alphaomega69woo well put friend

  • @alphaomega69woo Life was certainly better in the old days. My Dad was born in 1915 and made a good life for himself. Our world has indeed gone to Hell. One piece of advice, do what you heart tells you to in life. Go for your dreams and never give up.

  • @alphaomega69woo Sorry, I liked on accident. Yeah, our generation sucks a*s but guess what? We're alive. Live it up and make it your own. OH I JUST GOT A GREAT IDEA!!! Maybe if you stopped complaining like a baby and did something you wouldn't need to complain. You actually had to work back then. I'm tired of everyone in our generation being a baby and always whining. SHUT-UP and do something about it! The past was horrible! Hitler, Stalin, Racism, ect. The past SUCKED, we just cover it up.

  • @TheRetroHamster Go ahead and explain to me why the generation I belong to "sucks".

  • @alphaomega69woo Just know that there is nothing wrong with you - and your personal survey proves it. things have changed...and when things change...how often have you noticed they get better?

  • @aaronredcat Go around saying that and nothing will change. The change starts in an individual, only then can we see the difference.

  • @alphaomega69woo i feel the same way and im 14

  • @alphaomega69woo Love the name. I'm also 16(although you might not be now); "I survey this world, I see how far we've fell in the last century. I feel robbed of what life I could have had maybe 40 or 50 years ago." I also love Big Rock Candy Mountain.

  • @alphaomega69woo The problem lies within yourself my friend. If you are not willing to take on the challenges of today, then you are no better anyone else here on this planet.

  • @alphaomega69woo Ah yes, the past; legal racial and sexual persecution, when a black person could be shot in some towns for being outside past 6.

Yes, we have fallen so far.

  • @keinve2 i wouldn't say the whole century just the 80's and on

  • @keinve2 lol true tho

  • @keinve2

Oh PULEEEEEEZE give me a break with the apologist BS!!!

I guess it's much better now with "BEAT WHITEY NIGHT" at the Iowa State Fair!!!

Apologize for yourself, NOT for me!!!

  • @kevink040 Apologist? You misunderstand. I do not apologize when something is not my fault. I simply get angry when people think for some stupid ass reason that past = better.

Here's a hint; take what I said into context. Some asshole goes and says everything was better in the past. I point out that said asshole is wrong. I could have used other references. Those were simply the least obscure.

  • @keinve2 Continued from previous.

Someting I didn't have space to mention; wrong use of 'apologist', which refers to a systematic defense of a position through the use of reason.

  • Comment removed

  • @alphaomega69woo Some things are better some things are worse. I do think that the work ethic has gone down hill. It used to be that a person would take a job if it was honest work. Not so today. Too many people want a lot for less. I believe work is a good thing no matter if you make minimum wage or a lot of money. It's all about character and being proud of what you do.

  • i love this video, it was soo good!

  • Hahaha, looks like this must have been fun to make.

  • Ha I love this!! I love to play this on Banjo and found this by accident! Thanks!

  • Great!

  • Ha, my teacher showed this in class today!

  • I really want to live in the Big Rock Candy Mountains :D

  • @aDChatguy mt st helens wa

  • lol 30s had good music
