@kdpowers I think this ending is really open for interpretation. I believe that there are more than just those two, I mean Caleb did say, "Only those who heard the call could go". This tells me that there was more than just the two of them. I especially love the religious implications. Children are saved to restart the human race, those left on Earth are there to finally ascend into heaven and the "aliens" are a little inbetween the worlds of the living and the dead. I think it's cool.

This movie does reference the bible. Some will argue that the bible does not mention any aliens, however its how you interpret the message in the bible. In the end the Whisper people shed their skin and it did show what would resemble wings of an angel. the spaceship was a direct reference to Ezekiel Wheel. and the kids running to the tree of life represent who we know as adam and eve.

That actually IS how the world ends millions of years in the future when the sun dies.......if you check out the documentary "Betrayed by the sun" you'll see that at the end the earth is swallowed by the dying sun which has nearly tripled its size, But humans will have been long gone by then due to the intense heat and evaporation of water.

I give you few examples, the aliens can speak directly inside human's head, they can predict the future (the disasters, major accidents), giving specific dates and coordinates, no one can do that except the power of God, the name Caleb and Abigail (biblical characters), the tree of life, the beautiful scenery with unusual grass depicting heaven, the son united with his father the pastor, the clothes the kids are wearing.
