The biggest joke in the 21st century is looking at youtube page after youtube page and seeing "lol I dun reed books" on the favorite book section on youtube channels. Young people are way too stupid now a days.
Anyone ever find it ironic that they made books out to be so great, yet if they were, why would they have to produce a TV show to begin with? It's like saying this is better than that, but to get the most out of this you still have to do that...
My second-grade class watched this with the other second-grade 3 times a week that entire year...it was glorious. I also thought LeVar Burton was blind due to TNG.
I can't believe that I still remember every word to this theme...those were the days. The only difference is that now I know that you can't trust everything you read in a book.
I miss this show so much. When I heard this theme song it brought tears to my eyes because it brought back wonderful childhood memories. I remember watching this with my mom and dad in the afternoons when I was a little girl. Life was so much more beautiful and simple back then. Thanks to Reading Rainbow and Storytime and Muppet Babies and Sesame Street, my childhood was simply beautiful! ;)
It's a horrible shame that we do not have shows for children on PBS anymore that promotes and encourages reading for children. All they have now is crap like wordgirl or new electric company that are just awful because they have no beauty or imagination. Kids today are at risk for growing up as illiterates with no imagination at all
@materialgirl8707 You must not be watching the same PBS we have in these parts. Between the Lions is pretty effing superb, AND has a spectacular theme song. Just sayin... :)
Not Chaka. Tina Fabrique sang it. Even the trivia ticker on the R&B Classics channel on Music Choice gets it wrong. I understand the mistake; there are a handful of vocalists who sound like a lesser version of Chaka (YouTube the names to see what I mean): Tina Fabrique, Barbara Pennington, Bonita Taylor of Hi-Gloss, Berniece Watkins of Mahogany, and Taka Boom, Chaka's younger sister.
I remember watching this show. They said this was supposed to make me like reading but i never did. I still hate reading to this day. I dont know why i hate reading, may be because im black.
@MsSeterra You might be from a higher class black neighborhood. Im from the poor class black hood where the envirment does not teach you to do more in your education but instead it teaches you to hang out, have sex, smoke, drink, kill. Its hard to grow up where i did and still try to stay postitive. But dont worrie, Im now 21 and doing better these days. But I still hate to read. I have problems getting through the bible and im a Christ follower.
wow glad im not the only one, because this song and video really takes me back to the good ole days! Gives me a warm nostalgic feeling, those times were the best!
I won't lie, but when I watched this intro as a kid everytime, it made me almost sexually orgasm in awesomeness (even for a kid that hasn't reached puberty).
I always associate this song with my dad. Every Friday after school I would do my homework, watch Reading Rainbow and just as the credits would start rolling, my dad would be pulling in to the driveway to pick me and my brother up for the weekend. It also reminds me of Back to the Future, X-men, the Fox Kids Club, and Eek the Cat. Good times.
Memories. Sweet memories. I'd watch this, Wishbone, Where In The World Is Carmen San Diego, Ghost Writer, and Shinging Time Station Magic School Bus, and Bill Nye. Oh and Mr. Rogers Nieghborhood. All this on PBS. I miss my childhood.
If this was on today, maybe it could give kids some positive influence. Reading is great, but nowadays people are too invested in video games to sit down and enjoy a good book :c
being little in the 80s was great-it was its own time-ever since the end of the mid 90s its all turned into idolizing ghetto thug superstars-little kids watch garbage now-shows like this were good and had morals....unlike today-now everythings about money.rims, gems and drugs...its all bullshit now.
@anuangelseyes I completely agree growing up in the 80's Was awesome now that we look back on it and see where Television has gone and lost most of its good family values and great animated cartoon series.....
