So heard to talk or write about Dennis and this song without being overcome with emotion. Love you Dennis and always have, you and the great Beach Boys... So long my dear friend and RIP Carl. Seeing Brian (Wilson) play at the Concert hall in Dublin next week.
..and so it ends my Dragon. But at least you got to hear this song...sad as it is...it will always remind me of you next to me at SP...and the love we shared there...I love you.
it was a mistake to include Dennis' songs for Carl & The Passions, they do not fit well witht he other material, this should have been his solo material
The middle piece with Violins, Cello's etc would be at home on any piece of classical music. God what a talent Dennis Wilson had, Think of him and Brian together in the studio producing writing together....
Is it possible to get a copy of these wonderful photos? They are so atmospheric and align so well to Dennis singing. Thank you again so much for loading...
He was in a special place when he was writing these pieces beginning with Forever. The strings come in and build this piece so wonderfully. The angelic vocals over top - special. Is Dennis playing the piano parts?
I first heard this in 1774 and have loved it ever since. For the first 12 months I didn't even know it was by the Beach Boys. Bought the LP in 1976 i think. It got broken about 1980. Went all over the world to find a replacement (a bit like Paul Wiliaims music really) and ended up finding it in my local HMV along with Paul Williams LPs
It's such a beautiful song sung by a spiritual being. I cry every time I hear this song and I'm shedding a tear now. I first heard this many many years ago and I love it so much. Thank you for loading.
I don't know about that one I don't see him as romantic in the sentimental sense. Based on what I've read about this life, Dennis struck me as being a very direct and sexual person and that shows on several of his songs like All I want to do. He wanted love but sex and insecurity always seemed to get in the way. Poor guy. RIP.
sometimes I find it hard to express how I feel about Dennis' music, its like we were kindred spirits, he made me feel things I never let anyone see, but somehow he knew it was there. I will say once again thank you Dennis. I just wish you were here to see me say it.
A true MASTERPIECE in all aspects of the word and written by Dennis when he only 27 ! This song should be played @ EVERY wedding reception !! Javlynn Sue , if you're out there somewhere , I dedicate this to YOU ! I love you , Sattnin' . - Mopar Tim
yeh your right. Heard this song in 1972 and today i always come back ti it 37 years later, it`s a beautiful track. B/B on great harmonies to. check out only with you on holland if youve not already? Lou
i think he was very genuine as well... i guess i was just pointing out that we dont really know the artists although we feel like we do from the works and the bio's... But if you listen and analyze the work... his pain is very obvious. im a painter and a amateur musician, I know from experience that sometimes we just make things and then too much is said of it later. sometimes the art is just art and the artist is simply a co-creator. but wow these guys made some good stuff! they were deep.

Ohh, I feel your remorse. I'VE GOT A FRIEND is stellar. I wish I could hear the Beach Boys' version of WOULDN'T IT BE NICE TO LIVE AGAIN. The Adam Marsland rendition totally sends me.
My current top 5 DW: Holy Man, Cuddle Up, Piano Variations on Thoughts of You, Thoughts of You, Time.
At the first Beach Boys Convention that Susan Lang hosted in CT 7 or 8 years ago, I had the good fortune of hearing a lot of unreleased Beach Boys material, including Wouldn't It Be Nice To Live Again. I was blown away - it truly is Dennis' finest lead vocal and just an incredible song. It was mixed as a bonus track for what I believe was a DVD-A release of the Surf's Up LP that it was originally intended for. Hopefully good musical sense will lead to it's release sometime soon!
Wow, BigChiefLtd, you knew him. That's cool. I wish I were that lucky. (He died four years before I was born.) Although, I have met him several times in dreams. He was loving, needy guy.
Cuddle Up boasts all Denny's best songwriting/production features: a tenderly passionate vocal of striking intensity, sky-like vocal harmonies, sweeping chord changes, a quiet-loud dynamic (like a Kurt Cobain tune), lush orchestration, and an overall "wow-it feels-like-my-soul's being-massaged" production.
This song was on the Album "Carl & The Passions: So Tough" and when I first heard this, it simply brought me to tears. If you were lucky enough to know Dennis (as I did for all too brief a period) you would know this was the soul of the man bared for all to see. This takes me back to a point in time I will forever cherish. I'm so grateful someone was able to find this and post it with the beautiful collage of images. Denny lives forever through his music in all of us.
theunsheep - I agree. This was the period of time when he had found his voice and made the best use of it. Tragically, he would later virtually destroy it. Thank GOD he was able to lay down some tracks like this. My one regret is I never did hear him lay down a song he wrote for his wife Carol called, "I Have A Friend." I'd give just about anything to hear a studio version of that. He did that on one of their tours and it was a sweet song, but Cuddle Up takes the trophy.
There is a fair quality audience recording of I've Got A Friend on Dan Addington's Dennis Wilson Dreamer site. It's a wonderful tune. Now that we have POB and Bambu out, it's time that the powers that be pay some attention to some of Denny's early 70's unreleased material.
I heard this on the captain and tenille tv show somewhere in the 70's. They had a ballerina perform to the music with Toni Tenille singing lead, would have been better had they left Dennis vocals. he never had the purity of Brian, or Carl but they never had the soulfulness of Dennis's. The talent in that family is amazing, the Wilson's, the Gibb's, the Jackson's all stand as outstanding musical families.
I wish Brian and his band would do this live, picture clips show Ricky Fattar and Blondie Chaplin from the South African Group Flame who were part of the Beach Boys in the early 70's. At this time Dennis could not play drums due to a severed tendon in his hand which thankfully healed.
Dennis was the most under-rated musical talent in the Beach Boys. But he was a Wilson Brother (not a superficial Mike Love) - how Dennis' talent for tenderness in musical expression was not tapped into sooner is betond me ! What beauty in Dennis and in this song.
because the band relied on brian up until the late 60s for all of their material. once brian stopped recording and writing most of the music, the others were given artistic leeway. you're right, everyone deserved to hear more from dennis, a true musical talent!
When you consider among all the composers and performers whose compositions and performances are truly original, truly timeless and truly enduring, the very, very few who meet this standard unquestionably include Dennis Wilson.
