Gays have all the same rights on the state level, but on the federal level there are well over 1,000 rights reserved exclusively for marriages and not civil unions. With conservative congressman doing their part in blocking pro-gay legislation, marriage equality is the only way to achieve true legal equality.
Marriage is not a right. It is a privilege and there is no right to marry anyone who I want including immediate relatives, siblings, more than 1 person, person who refuses. Gays already have the same rights as str8s: vote, sit on juries, crimes against them illegal.
And Civil Unions have the same benefits. "Separate but Equal" - nice try, but marriage isn't a right, so that doesn't apply here.
Civil Unions don't provide the same benefits as Marriages. And if America is so equal why don't we have civil unions for all and not for some.That is in itself discrimination. You wouldn't want to give up social security benefits or the right to make a decision for your spouse in the hospital when they are unable. Marriage couples wouldn't want to lose over 1 THOUSAND benefits they have that Civil Unions and domestic partnerships don't I HOPE THEY WIN THE APPEAL THIS IS TERRIBLE!
