They should make it so that when you go to sleep, there's a random chance to have a nightmare. If you do, then you are transported to a copy of your world where it's all dark, and everything is out to kill you. You also have to start out with no items but if you have another nightmare, you continue from the last nightmare. Also you have low max health and it takes longer to break blocks and kill mobs. Not thought if a death penalty yet :P

Just to add to that point, they do 5 hearts damage now and teleport around to confuse you. Also, they are minecraft's equivalent of evil Usain Bolt, so much faster than you it's scary.

Endermen were buffed bigtime to do 5 hearts damage, it's now nearly impossible to shoot them with arrows, pouring water on them only makes them teleport away instead of killing them, they're bigger than you, they teleport around to confuse you and to surprise attack you from behind, they are black and harder to see in darkness than other mobs and they can run much, much faster than you.

I'd say they're just a little more challenging than a zombie.
