  • $200 to fill an SUV? Is there something wrong with that? You don't need an SUV if you live in the suburbs. Even a mid-sized car can hold little Johny's football gear.

Go electric for automobiles (Google "Tesla Motors" "Whego" and "Coda") and trains.

  • yes we can do something . Like lift the sanctions of IRAN and allow companies to pump that oil out ! or maybe open up more refineries in alaska alberta tar sands , or start drilling new welsl in gulf of mexico , or maybe invest in russian oil industry with its massive un tapped oil reserves ect...ect...ect...ect...

  • this could happen any time - any major disruption in production and delivery will send oil shooting up .....

  • Need to start using solar power more.

  • Said it before - I would LOVE to pay $8 a gallon. £6 here thanks.

  • @HPfan75 We don't live in surplus world any more. The end of profit is upon us.

  • 1:40 stop giving them ideas!

  • What is it with people not understanding the concept of exponential growth?

    2 4 8 16 32 64 128 256 512 1024 2048 and so on!

  • Well, instead of wars and the "all-out depression", the governments and even the President will demand to switch to eco-friendly energy (Solar panels, etc.) and possibly new eco-friendly technologies to run vehicles without pollution and oil...

  • @wafflepiepancake no eco friendly energy, to make a solar panel you dig up metals and silver , etc and ship it by train to ship yard then to truck to process plant in China. then back on truck then on boat to usa then by truck to shop then a guy picks it up and installs in in your house. More energy is used from fuel than all the energy the solar panel will take in in its 30yr life span.

  • @edwardtarr1 Not really, US has 2,000 yrs supply. Russia has several tens of thousands of yrs supply. There are several kinds of coal mines. Discovered, surveyed, and developed. Discovered and surveyed only. Discovered but not properly surveyed. Fossil fuels are just transition energy sources. Nuclear power is the long term key until fusion reactors comes on line commercially as a permanent energy source. New Brunswick coal seams range from a few thousand to 13,000 feet thick!

  • @darthvader5300 Keep taking the meds.

There is practically nothing you have said here that is true or is completely unobtainium.

  • Less Oil = Less Food. Less Food = Less People...

  • @MrEnergyCzar Less food = less stupid people who didn't bother to prepare. Survival of the fittest.

  • The LTC Karrick process can turn coal into oil, replacing all oil wells over the world overnight as a source of oil. It is like a wood to gas wood gasifier, wood to charcoal retort furnace, coal to coke coking furnace. The LTC Karrick process uses the same low temperature carbonizing pyrolytic process where in coal is converted into oil, high-BTU gas, co-generate electricity, phenol tar by products for the synthetics and plastics industries. It was discovered in the 1930s but suppressed for yrs.

  • Hum, its 2010 and the price of GAS has gone up 400% this decade. In 2000 gas was 70 cents a gallon.. In 2010 it is around $2.85 a gallon.. In 1976 gas was 35 cents a gallon and it took 25 years to go up 200%... Hummmmmmmmmmm

The world uses around 82 million barrals of oil a day... times365 days each year - how many cubic feet would that bee??? How many cubic feet is in the earth?

Dig a hole in your backyard and see if the world is a big oil can......

  • BOOLSHEET This is the worse Propoganda ever...!!? This is what they want you to think, that goverment have to help you!!!?

  • It was a great era in the United States when pregnant women were beat up by men fighting to fill there cars the first in the gas lines. And this was in the end of the 70's. I think I will take alot of drugs to survive.

  • We just need to raise the price of gasoline and pour all that money into nuclear. There is no way that wind and solar will ever meet the energy demands of our society.

  • "I'm a real believer that every individual can make a difference"

Yeah and I'm a real believer that the pope doesn't bend choir boys over with his holy cock"

  • "Millions of people in suburbs can't get to work." This is an unlikely scenario in light of the fact that most of those people won't have jobs to go to.

  • @drmodestoesq HA..ITS SO FUNNY..CAUSE ITS SO TRUE.

  • So, is it still happening?

  • @HighAway look up the 113 terrorists that got caught just the other day that were trying to do just this to Saudi arabia

  • @HighAway The chance is not 10%, it's 100%. Noone has implemented a massive global plan B. Oil demand is back where it was before the recession in autumn 2008 and still rising. We are on track for $150 oil and another major economic slump. Oil demand will not be able to keep up. Whether there will be war or not - nobody knows - economy will fall massively either way.

The advice is same as it's been a long time; get to know neighbours, start a garden, live close to public transport.

  • I made a film to help people prepare for peak oil. It's called, "Preparing for Peak Oil"....

  • a louder audio would be nice

  • Most of the quotes in this video are taken waaaay out of context to make this seem much more dramatic. However, the fact remains that peak oil is a very real concept that cannot be ignored

  • hemp will save US

  • Peak ape

  • $8 a gallon?? We've been paying that in Britain for years!

  • Norway too, and we still export oil. But what he is talking about is 8$ in the US. I believe they might see prices maybe twice that in the US, and a rapid decrease on fuel-taxes in europe in order to slow down our problems.

I still find it interesting that the US, and American analysts still take it for granted that Europe will be on their side...

  • @szorza

It matters not to me. People are currently happy because unleaded has dropped to £1.15 a litre. It's like 1984, where they dropped the chocolate rations by 70% and then as a gesture put them up by 10%, people were so brainwashed they thought they were being done a favour.

When the wheel really comes off it will be every man for himself.

I normally scoff at conspiracy theories but this has me genuinely worried.

  • @szorza who wants europe on their side thats like tying a rope to a drowning swimmer to save them u europeans are even more arrogant than the americans i hope u all drown in your debt!!! maybe have another siesta THAT might help.

  • @96carmic You would'nt possibly be american yourself would you? Your knowledge of the world does suggest some degree of ignorance... The spanish and mexicans have siestas, Norwegians have plenty of money saved up, an oil production that peaked in 2001-2002 but wil still be a net exporter of oil for 10-20 years, a production natural gas that is still 10-15 years from peaking. And for your info discovered and started settlements on the American continent about 800 years before Columbus... Wake up!

  • @DaveJP1973

True, but Britain is built to give a lot more alternatives to move people. America is built for cars. Half of America live in the suburbs. The average commute here is over 20 miles, so it is a bit far to walk or bike to work. If gas went up to $8 a gallon, it would have some bad consequences for the Americans.

  • @mollytherealdeal

We don't all live in little villages with a church and a post office you know. I drive 26 miles a day. There is no London Underground near me - and I start work at 7am. I have no choice but to drive. Since I posted this thanks to taxation and oil price rises we now pay £1.27 per LITRE of petrol. I drive a tiny 1.2 litre engine car and it now costs me £57 to fill it. Train and bus fares here too are spiralling out of control. We are paying about £5.90 a gallon now. Fair?

  • @DaveJP1973 England has the highest dept in the world per person, and your now importing oil not exporting from the north sea. inflation is going to be out of control soon, Only way to save your selves is to buy silver, not gold. Today silver 33 22nd feb 2011but in the next 8 weeks by may 11 it will be 43-50 per ounce. BUY SILVER and you will gain purchasing power, or keep pounds and lose most of it, good luck ;)

  • @keithholden metal will be useless. buy food ammo guns.

  • the animation of explosions at the refinery is cannot be a simulation, it's a fantasy.

this video is bogus, being dependent on that fantasy catastrophic refinery destruction in the beginning.

This is not a educational, historical, or even a predictive outcome. Note there is no description of time span. Yet the implications are that the time span is a matter of months.

"A narrow window of 5-7 years." to avoid the end of civilization? Come on... Who are these jokers.

  • Dude, open your eyes...We're between "stock market crash" and "rampant inflation" as we speak.

  • This video of peak oil is happening. most of it is.

150 a barrel, we had 147 last year.

stock market crash. yep had that as well.

And from what I hear another crash in the stock market is coming,

As the stocks have priced in a recovery that isnt coming due to dept levels, no one can spend.

Home less in usa , look up tent city usa.

whats next the riots?? in septemeber 600000 people lose there unemployment in usa, will they extend it?? Look up the U6 unemployent figure its over 16% in usa

  • people like you are going to miserable when the inevitable $8 a gallon arrives people like me are going to freakn love it, im going to sit from a distance and watch all you people who are addicted to the easy life knock each others teeth out

    enjoy the next 20 years

  • I think it will just be a period of difficult changes. We need to consider overall energy consumption, because even our electricity mostly comes from fossil fuels, and we have no way of storing wind/solar power for use when it isn't windy/sunny. I think the first thing to go will be electric clothes dryers. Maybe I should open up a big laundry business where we hang dry all the clothes. :)

  • @Aargh28 We do have storage methods for wind/solar power--it's called a BATTERY. The problem is they are not very effective storage media pound for power compared to fuels.

  • @Maximara Batteries cannot be considered a viable storage medium for the main power grid. If you looked at the battery array required for even a very efficient and modest home then it would be inconceivable to provide the same for an entire city - industrial requirements go far beyond. Personally I think we should be converting all of our wind/solar power into hydrogen.

  • @Aargh28 I agree but then I see solar is only effective at the very local level rather than the power plant level. Some 6.5% of energy is still lost through the transmission and distribution system in the US while Russia is at 30% and India is as high as 45%.

  • @Maximara Well I think that the point of the video is that we don't realize just how much of a free ride we've received from fossil fuels. I agree that solar energy will be very important in our future, but our future will also involve a greatly reduced per capita consumption of energy. You should plug an outlet power meter into a laptop just to understand how much we really use.

  • @Aargh28 A good part of that "consumption" in the US is waste. Gas stations and car dealership lit up like Christmas trees is one place I see every day.

  • @Maximara Electric clothes dryers and air conditioning consume huge volumes, and quite often they are run at the same time!

  • Peak oil is going to happen. That's a fact. The only thing that refinery attack would do is speed things up a few years.

Keeping your head in the sand isn't going to make these problems go away.

  • society is like one big jumbo jet, you cant fix anything until you know where it went wrong...by then it will all ready be too late.

  • This video shows oil at $150perbarrel,causing resession as food, energy rises.Which happened in july.On top of that a credit crunch.Depression is heading for USA as they have borrowed to much money from the world, with no factories to produce things to pay it back.Inflation from the bail outs will hit in the third quarter 09 Oil,food and everything will rise at that point.Start buying things now while they are cheap.Food, garden tools, seeds.Warm clothes.Bikes,umberallas,gumboots.

  • Because Oil is so cheap right now, investments in alternative energies grinds to a halt as they cant compete.Add the global credit crisis and funds are scarse.Alternative energy stocks have taken a bigger hit than most. But have the most upgain potential if they survive.this has happened over and over when they get going opec use to pump extra oil, drop the price and kill the alteratives, then drop production and the price would rise.this time it was recession that did it for them.

  • Investment into alternatives will only increase now that Obama is president. Have a look at Obama's Sec of Energy Steven Chu> The man knows a about energy, he knows about government funded research, and he knows how important it is to get industry involved in the this issue. Ethanol will soon be cheaper than gasoline...even if oil prices don't rise. The OPEC nations are actually going to cut supply to support the oil price. Solar will also continue to decrease in cost.

  • You cant grow enough ethanol on the planet to run all the cars trucks, planes, trains and eat as well.We only get 1% of our energy from solar, wind, tide,it will take years to make even a small dent and by then we will have more cars on the roads.USA is broke, borrow for bail outs print for this and that,2 trillion extra dept this year alone. China is where it will have to happen in alternatives and they are investing in coal fired power stations. We use 10 tera watts of energy

  • You only need enough alternative energy to make up for the decline in fossil fuels plus additional demand. That is all that is required. You do not need to run every single device on ethanol, oil will still be around for a while. Like I said, look up Obama's Secretary of Energy Steven Chu. Investments into alternatives is only going to ramp up once Obama is sworn in.

  • sorry OIL is TANKING big time and yes the global recession means a oversupply of oil! We are now at 2004 levels of oil. We won't see over $100 oil again at least for a L O N G time oil is being phased out

  • Phased out,by what, replacements for plasitics, pharmacuticuls, fertilizers, pesiticides. what are they phasing into?. What are the ships, the planes, tractors, trucks, going to run on.your food took 10 calories of hydrocarbon energy for every 1 calorie of energy you get from your plate, tractor, ferts, pesticides, harverters, boats, packaging, trucks, you pick it up in your car at the supermarket, and if you cooked it this winter they used diesel generators in nz for some power.

  • nuclear power from uranium 235 would last 10yrs if we converted every thing to electric. We use 10terra watts of energy from Oil,which is 10 000 of the largest nuclear power stations in the world to get the same energy we get from Oil.

  • If you haven't knowticed, we are in a recession, that means limeted economic growth, so I would say all of these projections are off. China is in fact slowing down, and we are kinda trotting along now.

  • These projections are just delayed. The IEA now states a 9.1% decline in oil production starting next year unless huge investment is introduced, how ever there is reluctance to invest when oil is 60 a barrel. This means we will bounce in and out of ression after ression,as oil prices rise as we come out pushing us back in.Russia is now in decline.Second largest exporter from memory.

  • We must remain optimistic in the face of such scenarios.

  • Demand is down for now, people are broke, but all the bail outs will cause massive inflation which will come. Then oil prices will rise once more. We may not reach the peak in the near term as people are to broke to buy enough goods and gas, but when this down turn is over we may reach peak.

  • Yes, and what I fear is that oil prices will increase even more quickly than before, as they bounce back after the economy stabilizes. It is a serious threat that we face.

  • At least there is one bright side...

    NEW URBANSIM WILL BE DOMINANT!!!!

NO MORE OF THAT UGLY, DISFUNCTIONAL, DEPRESSING, UNHEALTHY "SUBURBIA" STUFF WE LIVE THAT LACKS SENSE OF COMMUNITY, CHARACTER, & CULTURE THAT IS BAD FOR THE ENVIRONMENT, COSTLY, AND JAMMED WITH CARS!!!!???

New Urbanism reduces the need for driving where we could SAVE OUR RESOURCES ON BETTER THINGS!!!!!

  • So you must decide: Either live close to the food or to the work :) The entire world population of today is a result of oil production. Less oil, less people. About 2 billions will die within the next 10 years just because of oil shortage. The wars being fought for oil will appear as tiny events compared to the social catastrophe we are about to face. Best thing to do is to leave the big cities and get some place were you can grow your own food.

  • Sounds like whats hapening right now.lol

  • Hell we are already at 140, an attack on Saudi Arabia like that would ensure oil passing 200, maybe 300 bucks a barrel. Then again that will happen anyways in a few years.

  • the price of fuel is allready that here in ireland. one liter of desael costs 1 euro 46cent.... thats 6 euro 57 cent a gallon! that around 8 or 9 dollars! it cost 150 euro to fill a range rover!

  • Iran will be invaded its a question of when.

  • just like Iraq... its all in the oil...

  • this is a copy-cat version of a real documentary done 3 years ago

  • thanks undersea caveman for telling me about this very good clip

pretty much this is where we are heading and you dont need a terrorist attack to start it

  • if Iran is invaded .... oil prices .... riots....martial law

  • wow. thats wat i was thinking. thres no need for a terrorist attack. its happening anyways.

  • I think they threw the terrorists into the mix to make people think it may not happen , really its amazing the amount of denial going on

  • Everybody I have talked to on the street never heard the term "Peak Oil" I suppose that and denial may be a good thing because there is not much a lot or people can do about it except have anxiety. Peak Oil will play out and it will be mostly bad for us Humans. The survivors will be the toughest and the meanest and it will be a world similar to natures world,no sympathy just survival for a lot of people. At least a lot of pre peak oil is recorded so people can look back and see how we got here

  • Id say america got there by not listening to jimmy carter thats was the last big warning and if people had listened to him 30 years ago the usa at least would have been in a far better position .

his speech on energy is on youtube a really underated president who actually spoke to people like they were adults .

all bush is doing is preparing his bunker in south america , to be honest there isnt one of the presidential candidates on the same level as carter on energy:0(

  • Yep, and the ironic thing is Carter was ridiculed by a lot of people. The blame for this situation is on a lot of people including the population who chose big trucks and no consevation whatsoever. Soon we will pay the price for all our glutonous habits.

  • When I asked a lady if she had heard of Peak Oil she said, "Yeah, there's also PEAK Antifreeze!"

Regarding the History Channel, notice the fear portrayed from corporate media channels is always from something external: like a meteor, or a volcano, or some kind of disaster--the real danger is our consumption culture.

  • Villea07 you got that righ on all points. Big bitch slap coming to all those that ignore or are ignorant of this situation. Every dog has it's day, and our day is almost over. Get ready, lock and load.

  • boy, 2012 sure comes up a lot

  • has anyone mentioned what that would do to the air?

  • it isn't enough to say the air turns gray, remember Kuwait burning? that's what to expect.

coal is dirty but abundant. the balancing act between the two is shifting.

then people die from the air and they use less fuel because they're gone!

    problem solved.

this will only upset people who wish to live or own anything ever or have any comparable quality of life.

this is HAPPENING now. desperate people? prisons crowded with them NOW.

    i'm a canary.

i dropped almost a decade ago.

    soon.

  • As a mass, we are no smarter than bacteria....this will end miserably...I am off to claim my own tropical island with 20 virgins (hmmmm...sounds strangely familiar?)

  • Drop by and visit UnderseaCaveman, I'll be on a neighboring island with one dirty girl from Vegas.

  • if they're smart, they'll just use you for sperm and make you carry heavy stuff for them.

    hahhahahahaha

    virgins.

i mean really... Men are the only ones blind enough to crave first post. pffft!

kinda like the internet boards, huh? hahahahahahahaahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

  • im2boneonly,

I would trade 40 virgins for you...but, you'd just kick my ass all day long!

    Love, USCVM

  • you're such a riot

  • People dont believe all this and they arent willing to look into it enough to get the full picture. Yet when it happens they will be the first to complain, why didnt the goverment warn us, u are now warned. The Goverment wont tell you as they think it wont happen on there Watch, and the next goverment thinks it wont happen on there watch, so no warning.Things can get so bad,but if you prepare it will help.Any one out there prepared?

  • Don't panic! Go organic!

Please, don't blame the Chinese or the Indians. The North Americans still use at least a quarter of the world's energy. That does not give them the right to invade Venezuela or bomb Iran. The future can be beautiful, start preparing now with vegie gardens and fruit trees.

  • @ozinba: I agree. Blaming China and India is like saying, "You don't have the right to have the kind of life we've had for 50 years." Sadly, the lifestyle of Americans is unsustainable if everyone lives that way, and we know full well that that's true, but we don't want to give it up. And if we can't give it up, we can't blame others for wanting it. Also, interestingly, Venezuela is still the 5th largest supplier of oil to the U.S.

  • Well the price is nearly $140 and Wall Street fell 400 pts last week - and this is without a major sudden oil supply disaster.

SUVs, Hummers, V8's, even V6's and short haul flights where a train is a good alternative - all should be severely discouraged and taxed out of existence. They literally are threats to our way of life - rather than being an essential part of our way of life.

Public transport especially electric trains/trams has to be top priority over any new roads.

  • it's sick what Texas has done the last decade to not only AVOID clean transportation, but ENCOURAGE driving.

    no rail.

    more toll roads.

  • Thanks for posting this. For those out there learning about Peak Oil for the first time, this is an example of a classic malthusian or doomsday scenario. Many don't believe that things will be this bad. But it's important to 'prepare' like this is inevitable. Preparing on a individual, community, national, and global level. Your house isn't likely to burn down, but you still have insurance. You have it because you fear the results of the "worst case" scenario. We must do the same in energy.

  • insurance is required if you get a loan or mortgage. that is one of the only reasons to have it.

weird you should say that because that is the first thing i said when this vid started.... they'll try to invent "fuel use insurance"
