Cleveland had supported minor-league hockey for many years, yet they were left out of the 1967, 1970, and 1972 NHL expansions.
The World Hockey Association gave the City On Lake Erie the chance to get "big league" hockey.
The team was there for four years.
It's my understanding that the owners sold the club to a group that moved the team out of town because they had purchased the NHL's Oakland/California Golden Seals, and moved them to Cleveland.
I met Parent a few years ago nice guy it was a sport cards show. He showed me and mom his Chromed Stanley Cup rings. He signed two Flyers puck which my mom brought.
Cheesie looks undressed in anything but a Boston Bruins uniform. I forgot all about his venture to the WHA along with Bernie Parent and Derek Sanderson.
I'm also a huge Cheevers fan and former goalie. He was a childhood hero. My Dad got me his autograph when he and my mom saw him at a restaurant in Boston. In the 1990's, Cheesie was a semi-regular at Suffolk Downs, the horse racing track just outside of Boston. I got to spend some time talking with him about hockey and horses. The man could handicap the ponies and had some great stories about the Big Bad Bruins of the 1970's.
It's great to see these old video clips posted here.

But Cleveland had only two years in the NHL.
