Never ever let enemies get in melee range. While having a melee weapon is obviously recommended, there really isn't any need to melee. Well. At some point you will get an attack called "Wing Clip". It stuns enemies. If a Warrior "Charges" you, Wing Clip that troll.

P.S. Always keep your pet out.

when i "kite" i side strafe and jump turn shot then continue keeping your side strafe up in lowbie pvp lock for example rogues out from using backstab, also steady shot and later on cobra shot (lvl 81) help you regain focus, signiture moves like kill command, explosive shot and chimera shot cost alot of focus and have pretty long cooldown so while waiting for that shot to get of CD you use steady or cobra (depending on specc) to regain enough focus to use sign move again

For hunters melee is almost like an OHSHT button, most of the hunter melee attacks slow enemies etc so you can get the distance to get shots off again. Using S isnt all bad if you're in a group or whatever, but strafing with Q and E is much better and easier after a little bit of practice. Also try flick shooting, basically you run forwards (away from the mob) and flick your mouse around to face the mob and get a shot off before flicking it back. Alot faster than S and after a bit pretty easy.

Seen a lot of helpful comments about kiting on this video, It's a great thing to practice for any class. If you want to really commit to what is, imo, the best way to move, rebind A and D to strafe, S to your mount and use your right mouse button to turn. Takes a little getting used to, but it made me a better player. (In fact I use E, S and F to move, but that's another story...)

/castsequence reset=9 hunter’s mark, auto shot, petattack

Once you have concussive shot use the above macro then concussive shot, serpent sting and move away (dont run backward turn and burn)

Get an addon for range finding (helpful for casters too) you want to stay at max range as much as possible.

How to play Hunter? Hunters Mark ... Send pet .. start auto attack ... go get a sandwich; by the time you get back mob is dead.

Repeat ....

You might want to vary the food and add a beverage now and then.

All those fancy skils you have? Not needed. They can make it more fun if you want to try doing something different, but you do not need to.

backpeddaling is slower than run speed (strafe and forward running) therefore it is not productive in a combat situation as moving slower than needed is noobish... backpeddaling for an class is a no no... a good hunter will mouse turn 180 degrees, hit strafe and jump in the backward direction while spinning in the air to get off a shot at the target and before hitting the ground, spin the mouse back again to 180 degrees, hit strafe and jump again.. in this way you move back from target..

Once you learn the ability concussive shot this helps what is called "Kiting". Kiting is what a hunter does best and it is staying at range so you can do your ranged attacks and moving away at the same time. The best way to do this is shooting them with concussive shot when it is up / appropriate and using instant shots to do damage. Also, do not use 's' or backpedal while kiting, it is more efficient to use 'Q' or 'E' to -strafe-. I would recommend spec'ing Survival.

You shouldn't need to back peddle when leveling. You need to summon your pet or revive it If it's dead. Your pet should keep aggro from you so you can just shot the mob.

You should just not back peddle in pvp cus it's easier for people to catch you and u should just kite them by strafing :-)

Basics use Call Pet and use your pet to hold aggro(Revive Pet if he's dead) keep a safe distance and nuke the mobs down never walk backwards (s) and always walk away sideways (q or e) dont keyboard turn, but use your right mouse button for lvling: spec beast mastery tame a Tenacity pet (such as bears or boars) spec your pet so that he got much stamina and armor gear: Hit Rating (until capped) > Agility > Crit > Mastery > Haste i hope you can learn something from this ;) good luck :D
