Every day I have a need to hear this beautiful voice.I pray that her parents are smart enough to value her as a daughter and not push her for the almighty buck.I so look forward to hearing her as she matures for we haven't heard the best yet although it is hard to top her gift now.I also pray for those that are negative for they most certainly have issues.
I am not an opera fan per say, but in my 66 yr. life, I have not ever been more impressed by a singer like Jackie Evancho! I am now a fan of hers. Truly impressive! And I'm still a big fan of classic rock.

@StopEatingCats911 I do not go around looking for Jackie sites to bash. How I get there usually comes from ppl like you saying "just listen to how fantastic she is". If I write anything it is to inject a little reason, commonsense and professional opinion into the discussion. Other teachers like myself have rightly remarked that what she is doing is NOT good for her like Nessun Dorma. There may be short term benefits like money and exposure but it is very poor vocal management.

@StopEatingCats911 Yes you should really stop eating cats, it might interfere with your hearing. Obviously you wouldn't know a good perofrmance of Ave Maria if it dropped from the sky and hit you on the head -the same for most of JE's tone-deaf fans either. That's right she is only 11 and shouldn't be pushed into areas she doesn't have the expertise for. She here is singing artificially lower in order to get a certain sound. If she did it in her own voice it would be far better but less salable.

First off, she is singing it lower to get a certain timbre, to push the sound into the resonators. This is a less than successful experiment as her breathing is even louder than usual, she can barely get to the end of phrases and there is an audible vibrato - all bad technique. For her voice type, she should sing high and light.

@zamyrabyrd I think it is interesting idea to sing Ave Maria in low range (as tenors do it) , she has talent for such voice - nobody at her age can it but I dislike when somebody describes it as “the richest soprano” when it is quite alto ending about in the middle range of soprano. Soprano child performances by Denis Placzkowski (c-dur) and more popular b-dur: Vienna Boys Choir, Sasha Cherkas, Andrew Johnston, Denis Cmieesnsky or Anrew Swait and a lot of others.

When this is not being done it is a cause for concern and speculation. Her recordings are considerably better than the live performances - wonder why? When she sings high and light, it is very good and appropriate for her age. The promoters and coaches are the ones who are pushing her into areas that cannot benefit her development as already the seams are showing.
@zamyrabyrd Note that she has a low vocal range and can sing down to tenor f , but has seriously problems above, her a’’ is forced. To compare to typical soprano- Lorin Wey couldn’t sing in small octave but had uniform, rich clear timbre from c’ to c’’’ and whole this range was soft game for him. So I think she realizes her natural gift and she should concentrate on it (alto & mezzo tessitura) contralto is a great voice. Ofcourse warmly wish her to be as perfect as Lorin.

Only adult, experienced artists with such low voice can easily (modal) sing soprano (Cecilia Bartoli, Carlo Broschi etc. despite Cecilia declares as mezzo). Soprano is singer who can easily rich range at least to c''', even up, with height tessitura and coherent timbre, about 75% notes in sixth octave (from c’’ up) It is real challenge for vocal cords, muscles for child and it would be a crime forced her to do it.
@2010wieliczka I'm sorry but she sounds much more comfortable in the upper range. In Memory I didn't hear any note below alto g and where the melody hovers around there, "a" or so, it was barely audible. Of course, it is not a good idea to peg a voice so young but it is possible to discern where it naturally gravitates. She really is a talented kid and should sing in the best range and not push too high or low. One should perform not at the limits of the voice - a 3rd away high or low is good.

@2010wieliczka No need to bring in vocal extremes. The point about singing popular and crossover music is that a lower sounding voice is preferred, because that is, after all, the speaking range. When J sings Pie Jesu, it fits like a glove b/c it is high. But she also sounds like a kid. This is the point I and others have made, singing out of her natural range esp. now in this early stage of the game is not healthy at all. She could sing Ave Maria higher but it would not have that pop sound.
@zamyrabyrd but it is different problem- that she is not push in low register but in crossover mode and it is harmful for her tallent . A lot of pop- cc singers could sing soprano but they don’t do this because it is unimportant in their popular career but I think it is not good place at this forum to talk about it because people will kill as for being “opera snobs”.

My sons both have done work in theater and recording. The sound of breathing during the performance blows any accusation of lip-synching out of the water. I think it's pure jealousy.

AS far as her Breathing, she is small in size and Stature, thus she has smaller lung capacity, as she grows I am certain you will see her breathing patterns change.

LOL> @ IRegan101, are you sure it is lip-synching you are refering too. Many talk about Jakie's tendency to Lipsing.... Because she is so young it is very difficult to have a good vibrato, Jackie accomplishes it with her Lips and lower Jaw shaking.....
Rest assured, Jackie is being looked after very well. No one is going to exploit her. She also has a great family behind her, and two loving Parents with prestigious Parenting skills. Jackie will do just fine!
she needs work on breathing techniques when you sing properly your shoulders do not move but your stomaach/diaphram do move. The breath is also slient. but otherwise the voice is good nice vibrato and latin pronounciations my choir did this song.

Her voice is absolutely perfect but she breaths into the mic too much. If she could break that habit she would be perfect, probably the greatest singer of all time.
@ReturnofPmtmr Actually, with that type of wireless microphone placed so close to the singer's mouth, the sensitivity is such that, even with a foam windscreen, breathing sounds are easily picked up. To a lot of us in the industry, to eliminate all of the breath sounds from a recording tends to cause it to lose some of its naturalness. Just listen to some of the recordings of such greats as Julie London, Alison Krauss, and Norah Jones. To remove the sound of their breathing would be a crime.
I am a female vocalist too and have been for coming up to 12 years. this track is my all time favourite classical track, and I have never been moved to tears by a vocalist before I heard your version, absolutely perfect. i attended this concert on 2/18/11 in Houston.This was her first Solo Concert as a professional. She was 10 yrs old and seemed very small until she began to sing. That old church had never heard sounds like Jackie made. I left in a daze trying to comprehend what I saw and heard. You just have to see her live to understand.

Jackie vocal coach is Yvie Burnett, trained as an operatic mezzosoprano, and sung professionally with the Welsh National Opera.
She remains in her head voice the majority of the time which is the safest voice for her, so as not to put too much pressure on her lungs and not to push too much air through her chords. Jackie does not "belt"
and therefore puts no strain on the vocal chords. She sees a throat doctor (Otolaryngologists) twice a year

Actually, the correct term would be "lip-synching", which, of course, Miss Evancho has NEVER done. She loves her music and is becoming a rising megastar with her beautiful songs and fast rising fan base. Watch the videos of her with David Foster at the PBS concerts to see how well she handles difficult pieces of music. By the way, thank you for your personal opinion. Good day.

So you must think that all of these other singers are lip synching too, right??? What Planet was that you say you are from? The Lip-Synching was debunked a long time ago. Listen to her sing Neesun Dorma on BGT when she went to England, then listen to the same song as a guest performer on AGT 2011. Jackie sounds much better on AGT which uses no electronic enhancements, just some reverb to balance the hall!. BGT is the one with all the electronic trickery. You can't fool God!

Wonderful performances by Jackie. But the organizers had to provide sound geting from audio system, and not with sound with all defects and noise in the hall.

Julie Andrews was performing at the same age. Her parents, however, were using her as their mealticket. Ironically, she became the adult in her family. Jackie is fortunate to have much different parents, but if she has Julie's guts, she has a long career before her.
What a fantastic performance! As a sound and recording engineer, I could hear how quickly the genius brain of this wonderful prodigy was reacting to the acoustics of the church and making constant corrections in her vocal tones. At a few places it caused her pitch to "slide over" on certain frequencies and change her overtones, but, at least, without any real problems. That doctor from the 20/20 show interview of her certainly had the correct analysis of well she can control her beautiful voice!

Poor man (Jesus) was showing us, how to come off of our cross, and these people making a horror show out of it. @zamyrabyrd but it is different problem- that she is not push in low register but in crossover mode and it is harmful for her tallent . A lot of pop- cc singers could sing soprano but they don’t do this because it is unimportant in their popular career but I think it is not good place at this forum to talk about it because people will kill as for being “opera snobs”.
Real soprano is not for crossover- people don’t like real soprano except its charming definition. Thanks for discussion.

My sons both have done work in theater and recording. The sound of breathing during the performance blows any accusation of lip-synching out of the water. I think it's pure jealousy.

LOL> @ IRegan101, are you sure it is lip-synching you are refering too. Many talk about Jakie's tendency to Lipsing.... Because she is so young it is very difficult to have a good vibrato, Jackie accomplishes it with her Lips and lower Jaw shaking.....

recent videos reflect minimal chin wobble.
Now Charlotte Church had a more pronounced chin wobble and she still sings pop.
Self-inflicted problems such as chain smoking, drinking and maternity caused
vocal issues.

she needs work on breathing techniques when you sing properly your shoulders do not move but your stomaach/diaphram do move. The breath is also slient. but otherwise the voice is good nice vibrato and latin pronounciations my choir did this song.

@ReturnofPmtmr Actually, with that type of wireless microphone placed so close to the singer's mouth, the sensitivity is such that, even with a foam windscreen, breathing sounds are easily picked up. To a lot of us in the industry, to eliminate all of the breath sounds from a recording tends to cause it to lose some of its naturalness. Just listen to some of the recordings of such greats as Julie London, Alison Krauss, and Norah Jones. To remove the sound of their breathing would be a crime.

i attended this concert on 2/18/11 in Houston.This was her first Solo Concert as a professional. She was 10 yrs old and seemed very small until she began to sing. That old church had never heard sounds like Jackie made. I left in a daze trying to comprehend what I saw and heard. You just have to see her live to understand.

Jackie vocal coach is Yvie Burnett, trained as an operatic mezzosoprano, and sung professionally with the Welsh National Opera.
She remains in her head voice the majority of the time which is the safest voice for her, so as not to put too much pressure on her lungs and not to push too much air through her chords. Jackie does not "belt"
and therefore puts no strain on the vocal chords. She sees a throat doctor (Otolaryngologists) twice a year
to assure health vocal chords

@iReagan101 Hey, thanks for a good laugh, because I haven't seen the "lipsinging" matter come up in quite a while. Actually, the correct term would be "lip-synching", which, of course, Miss Evancho has NEVER done. She loves her music and is becoming a rising megastar with her beautiful songs and fast rising fan base. Watch the videos of her with David Foster at the PBS concerts to see how well she handles difficult pieces of music. By the way, thank you for your personal opinion. Good day.

What Planet was that you say you are from? The Lip-Synching was debunked a long time ago. Listen to her sing Neesun Dorma on BGT when she went to England, then listen to the same song as a guest performer on AGT 2011. Jackie sounds much better on AGT which uses no electronic enhancements, just some reverb to balance the hall!. BGT is the one with all the electronic trickery. You can't fool God!

Julie Andrews was performing at the same age. Her parents, however, were using her as their mealticket. Ironically, she became the adult in her family. Jackie is fortunate to have much different parents, but if she has Julie's guts, she has a long career before her.

What a fantastic performance! As a sound and recording engineer, I could hear how quickly the genius brain of this wonderful prodigy was reacting to the acoustics of the church and making constant corrections in her vocal tones. At a few places it caused her pitch to "slide over" on certain frequencies and change her overtones, but, at least, without any real problems. That doctor from the 20/20 show interview of her certainly had the correct analysis of well she can control her beautiful voice!
