wtf are you all on about. the RHA do state ceronmonial events and sometimes get to compete in competitions .. any particular amount of people are sent to afgan at any one time as they are initially trained as COMBAT SOLDIERS. most will just deliever amuition to troops on the frontline etc...
Of course they fight, thats why My Great Uncle Felix who was in the Royal Field Artillery managed to get blown to bits in 1917 in what is now modern day Iraq. He has no grave, just his name on the Basra Memorial. This I found out just one week before Remembrance Day 2008.
All of Britains ceremonial troops are fighting troops, they just take turns doing ceremonial duties.
KT, RHA are a purely Ceremonial Unit. Occationally, some of them are able to go away and do odd jobs....and I mean ODD jobs, such as drivers....or in one particular case, running a car wash in Basra. Otherwise....100% ceremonial! Good day!
It's a common misconception that the British Armed Forces do not have purely ceremonial units. Royal Horse Artillery, Royal Air Force Regiment etc. It's said that they draw personnel from active combat units, but this is the norm for most countries, and is not unique to the UK.
The Royal Horse artillery, which itself is in the Royal Artillery, consists of three operational regiments, two in the field artillery role and one in the airborne artillery role (the 1st, 3rd and 7th regiment respectively). The King's Troop is also a part of the RHA and is essentially a purely ceremonial unit.
do the King's troop:royal horse artillery also go on mission to afghanistan like the household cavalry?
