A lot of vinyl stores have closed down here in Michigan. I remember going to the record store 4 times a week. It was my hang out in the 80s, but now, honestly, I still have my Records packed away, can't part with them, but they are too heavy and inconvenient for people who move around a lot- so I can't say I'd ever go back to it. sweet vid.
I love vinyl, but I wouldn't recommend sleeping with it because it breaks pretty easy. One of the saddest things is to go to a second hand store and see all the vinyl there that some of it no one will ever buy and then it will be put to sleep never to be heard again. It's a tragedy. I rescue a lot of it, but I can only buy and store so much of it. I need to start a site called rescue the vinyl . com.
Spotted a stereo copy of Vanilla Fudge 'The Beat Goes On' in this video - - very nice - a much-maligned album but it has its charms -- long live vinyl!
One good tip for moving records into the basement is to know what you have there. Make a list - even if it just the name of the artists, and also a word
about where in the shelf(shelves) you placed it. I am using a 5x5 chess board refernce.
I want to raise the shelf with bricks and cardboard from the Ikea package before I fill it completely.
I never use the stickers for gliding or secure the shelf to the walls. I find the 93kg weight of an empty shelf sufficient.
@stealth22a Did not know that Modest Mouse were releasing albums on vinyl record.Thank you for the information. I listen to the same kind of music. Everything from Frank Sinatra to Metallica. Vinyl does sound so much better than a CD. I have about 37 LP's and a few hundred CD's. You gotta have a good sound system to really enjoy vinyl records.
@musicman257 Probably because CD's are cheaper to manufacture and master. Vinyl records are still made today just not like they were in the 60's and 70's. Some of these big record companies are just putting digital mastered albums on vinyl. Which is not what vinyl enthusiasts want. I know that when i buy a record i want it to be pure analog.
I lived upi in Green Bay and I know Jim well...We even played in a band together for awhile. When in the area, be sure and check out "Amazing Records" he's a Great Guy!!!
thanks for sharing and getting the word out. Vinyl certainly sounds better than anything else. Especially when played through a vacuum tube amplifier. VINYL FOREVER!
the technology that goes into making music out of a piece of plastic is amazing. The science of physics that led to this acomplishment was perfected in the mid 20th century after 1944 with the disccovery of biasing in magnetic tape reproduction resulting in high fidelity which served as the master tapes for vinyl production. Everytime i listen and watch my turntable spin, it seems like magic that so much sound can come from a microgroove. Absolutely astonishing!
i'd love to go backwards... and get the incredible sound of vinyl as a standard, and with nothing wrong in the world, noone raping next doors cat... those are the times
Someone said that it is magic when an LP is played and may be its true. For instance, altough I'm aware about how does it work, it is so impressive to see how sound is piked up by a stilus and everything goes around of the oscilations un the groove...! in few words IT'S MAGIC..!
Fad? Not for true music lovers! Vinyl has been kicking for 60+years. The only reason it slowed down was record companies went to cd's ..not because vinyl lover stopped loving the vinyl. Now that they see Vinyl lovers are still out there they are getting back in the game. You know when mainstream stores like Best Buy start carrying Gun n Roses, U2, Dave Mathews Band, and The Police on vinly that it has worked it's way back into very commercial markets. That means MANY people want it!!!
Actually for a vinly collector it is just the opposite. There is a quality added to the music by the physical contact of the needle to the record that you loose with cds. There is a cruch, especially with good classic rock, that is lost with a remastered CD. I would agree that it's a fad if record lables were not making more vinly now than 10 years ago. Heck..your big commericial stores like Best Buy are even pushing it. I certainly respect your opinion though! Whatever media..just rock!!
That is just it...cd edits the sound far to much. . Honestly, you can play a vinly record a number of times and get different versions of a song played back. There is actually interaction with the music because of the physical contact of vinly. In case you don't know the needle vibrates in grooves to produce the sound much the way you play a guitar and vibrate the strings. It's never the EXACT same each times. Reproduction of vinly sounds a step closer to "live" than a cd ever could.
LOVE it! It's good to see someone who has an active interest in this format. My world has just gotten smaller. I have approximately 2000+ albums and 2000+ 45's. LOVE the sound, the richness, the feel of the vinyl record. Let's keep this interest going!
I think Vinyl does sound better and If you think about it. Some of the Greatest Hits of all time were made during the era when vinyl records were in and they sound great. So I think it is actually funny but great that vinyl is back.
