my mom was watching this movie and i just walked in the room during this scene and during this part...i literally cried out in shock and started to cry, this is one of the most emotionally impacted scenes i have ever seen
@Voidhead This film has nothing do with racism... Its about emotional reactions. The colour/race of the individual actors plays no part in their character traits whatsoever!
Well it was his way of seeing the situation. He had no idea the gun was loaded with blanks so he thought she magically stopped the bullet. In his eyes he believed she prevented him from doing something horrible that would end tragically for himself (going to prison) and the girl's father (death). That's why he called her his angel, he believed she was his guardian (in the form of a little girl) sent to protect him and prevent him from doing something evil.
@manstie You think the girl is about to get shot, but it turns out the gun was filled with blanks preventing a huge misunderstanding going more out of hand.
This scene is the most disturbing, heart-wrenching, dramatic, emotional and powerful scene I have EVER seen in a movie. I have had tears in my eyes before during movies, but this scene actually made me scream out loud and cry like a baby. Terrific acting by all in the scene, and the music score is dead on!
the best scene in the movie by far :( its so perfect. it mimics al pacino in godfather 3 when his daughter is shot. silent screams, because the emotion on their face is all that is needed to captivate the audience :'(
The first time I watched this was in school for my controlled assessment, and this soon made me burst out crying. I had tears from when the girl was at the door saying he doesnt have the cloak, then when she jumped and i heard the bang , i broke down in tears. This has to be the most memerable scene for me
This is a wonderful movie. I've watched it idk how many times, great movie bc it shows ppl of all races and all walks of life, and how basically all of us are just trying to make it in this crazy world. Pay no attention to the racist idiot whoiswhobutwho's comment.
@whoiswhobutwho I swear no one on Youtube these days can watch a heart-breaking scene from an awesome movie without a racist bastard trolling around. Fuck off your ignorant piece of shit.
This doesn't make any sense to me. if you think your daughter was just shot, you would immediately start looking for the bullet hole and assess the damage, or make sure that it even hit her because the bullet at that range would have passed though her and into the guy, i would have ripped my daughters clothes off to start looking to where to apply firm direct pressure at the wound site, while my wife called 911.
I always thought Michael Pena deserved an Oscar for this one moment. The pain was definitely there! I didn't cry when I first saw it, but I swear I could've had a heart attack. This is every parent's WORST FEAR...especially a father. It's bad enough if your child gets hurt away from you, but having it happen in FRONT of you?!?!? Like everyone else I was VERY relieved when the girl was revealed to be all right.
Perhaps one of the most powerful scenes in a movie, it catches you offguard and shows you what happens when you let hate fester and build like a cancer.
I lol at the guy saying that The ones crying were queers. I myself laugh alot when "emo scenes" happens in movies and think its ridiculous. But this Movie Its not A Movie Its just Reality for some people. may it be Skin color ,religion./beliefs. You get shit for it
The ONLY thing I didn't like about this scene was the awful acting of the Mother. The camera goes from Pena's face screaming in complete distress which automatically makes the viewer tear up, and then it shows the mom crying and her acting just plain sucks, not believable at all. VERY emotional scene though.
Love this movie! It also shows that it's a bit risky to make up things to children like the cloak, what if there were real bullets in that gun. That would end up badly. :( Such a sweet girl!
This is the saddest part of the whole movie for me. I almost had to leave the theater to stop myself from busting out and crying in front of everyone lol.
@sprinkleOtea no. she was like i want the red box. she only said that she knew what they were cuz she thought all bullets were the same...??? idk, i watched this in class and wasnt clear on what happened in that part
@sprinkleOtea Regardless of the focus on movie in class....Sprinkleotea is correct...she had no idea what bullets they were...rdue to the fact she has no idea what to ask for....saying red was easier then asking for size and type of ammo.... she was pissed and annoyed... there is a run down of the script somewhere online with writing and clear rewrites and shots......find it and the scene and it has line like...ask for box at random...red....:) hope that helps.
when i saw this scene i was like stay in the effin house little girl. i know everybody cried at this scene, i did too. but when i saw this, i screamed first and then cried. holy crap. this scence was crazy intense. so happy she wasnt really shot.
people have always argued over the most emotional scene on film ever, I think this movie defined emotion on film. whenever I mention this movie the first response i get is OMG! I NEVER CRIED THAT MUCH IN A MOVIE BEFORE!
@skatersRgay1993 Well if you cry in this scene anyone would forgive you. I'm a grown man and I sobbed bitterly when the pain just burst out of the guy's face
I couldn't follow this movie...I was so lost. Especially this scene when the little girl get's 'shot'. I saw it in my Sociology class, and I was like "But...she got shot." And my class mates were like "There were blanks in the gun" I never got the fact that in the beginning of the movie, the daughter had them put in the gun.
@wolfmyth007 In the gun shop she said "We'll take the red ones" and the guy behind the counter said "Do you even know what those one's are??" And she was like, i dont care we want the red ones. The were blanks.
now, that is an awesome father... all his daughter cared about was saving him, jumping in front of a stranger with a gun. that scene is always so moving...
@MattyB9373 its a reference to an earlier part of the movie. she said invisible cloak. earlier, the father asks the girl if she was scared of the bullet that had gone through her room months before and pretended to untie an invisible cloak that he said kept him safe when he was young and tied it around her neck.
this is the one part of the movie where i HAVE to cry. the pain on his face is just...instant tears. i cry harder when she says "ill protect you" and "that's a really good cloak". makes the entire movie for me.
Every one who is an American citizen or wishes to be an American citizen, needs to see this movie. The greatness and ugliness of our "great experiment" (as our founding fathers called it) is brought to light in this film.
I saw this movie last night. This is a really powerful scene. To me, it represents the innocence we all have when we're children (notice that basically all the adult characters have their flaws, even the "good" ones). It also reminded me that faith-wise, we have to believe like a little child.
I don't know who I felt the most sorrow for, the little girl, the dad, the mom, or the lost man in the street, not realizing at first he had shot a blank at the little girl, without first realizing it wasn't the locksmith who vandalized his store and stole from him..
Such a powerful movie. I was blessed to grow up in a multi-racial neighborhood by parents who never uttered a racial slur. I wish there were more movies like this that drives home the point that we don't have to like each other but we all deserve to live on God's green earth without fear of bodily harm or death just because we are dressed in a differnt color skin. This won best picture as it deserved too.
when Lara got shot, me and my friend gasped. but when we found she was alive, and she said 'i'll protect you' my friend started crying. she is his guardian angel.
i saw this movie in my speech class last year in college and it made me tear up in class cause it was so powerful. i actually thought they were real bullets until i saw the movie again and realized the dudes daughter bought blanks from that racist gun seller. A few of my classmates noticed but they werent surprised cause of how powerful this scene was. Then i saw it again on my own time (NETFLIX) and it still made me cry
This is a great film that was made using very little cash. And it also proves that the genre buffs are wrong as well as missing something that's indiginous to any storytelling medium. Its not about genre, its all about good storytelling. If your story is compelling and told well, the genre is just a detail and has no bearing on the final outcome of its impact on the viewer. This one has the added benefit of being grounded in a reality that everyone has dealt with at some point in their life.
@finepoint100 dude , they didnt say in this movie that this guy was muslim , he is only eastern , probably indian cuz im muslim and im arabic and i cant understand his language with his daughter , if he was real muslim , his daughter wouldnt go out with her hair like that and he wouldnt be racist or stupid like that and they didnt say anything in the movie to make u think he is muslim , only eastern
@patcar12345 sry to disappoint u , but i do know how they live and like everything else , theres good and bad things in their way in living like theres good and bad things in our way in living , in my way in living , and i hope i didnt spoil the joy that this movie gave to u , this is truely wonderfull movie , so inspiring.
@finepoint100 and about the god , the god is real and excist , doesnt matter u agree or denie this truth , but ofc none of us can see him thats the meaning of faith , u belive without u see , u feel and belive inside u that he is excist , this whole universe , world and the circle of life didnt just showed up by chance , theres some 1 created all this , which is the god , i will not tell u look here and there , just look into ur self , ur body , how it works ? ur heart , did u ever look inside..
@finepoint100 ur self and give athough for 1 sec , how all this happened , how all this appeared , how all this came , who made the wildest animals become rly mercefull with their sons and who made ur heart beat like this , ur body work like this , ur skin feel like this , just open ur heart , wonder and look a round u who created all this life ? ppl die ppl comes , all this things a round u doesnt make u wondering who made it ? how he made it ? how great and beautifull he is ?
this is the best prejudice, racial, discrimination movie ever made, well written and the actors were amazing! this is one of the best scenes and the other one where the black guy got shot by the cop
This is my all time favorite scene Ashlyn was in... Its cool becuz she's like my best friend and she's so much bigger now...... I love seeing her when she's acting. It's like a whole different person!!! I love you ash!!!!
The dad's face when his daughter is shot = instant tears for me. When the daughter tells him, "It's okay daddy, I'll protect you." and he checks her back and sees she's fine, and I am a complete mess.
@onexero1 Your logic leads me to believe that if you were the store owner you would have done much more than hold a man at gun point and inadvertantly shoot his daughter upon loosing your livelihood.
@TeenageMuse I would investigate before assuming some random mexican guy robbed my store. You must think it's ok to shoot little girls. What if those bullets were real? wouldn't be so cute would it?
You must seriously watch this movie. Amazing. Too bad the best scene is ruined for you now:(. Earlier in the movie the little girl was scared because she heard a gun shot. So the father gave her his "Invisible impenetrable cloak" That can stop bullets. That's why she says "He doesn't have it, I have it". Why she wasn't shot was because when the man's daughter was buying the gun for him, she got a free box of bullets. She chose blanks so her father couldn't hurt anyone.
There's 2 movie scenes that grab me by the stomach , give me chills and just make me cry. Over and over again. This scene is 1 of them. The other scene is the car scene from the movie 6th sense, where the boy tells his mom he sees ghosts and tells her about how proud grandma is of his mom. Thanks for uploading this one.
What a poignant scene. Michael Peña is awesome in this scene and in fact everything I've seen him in. And the little girl is gorgeous and a great little actress.
I'm a 20 year old guy who has a little girl to take care of, and even though she's my adopted daughter my eyes still well up and all I can do is cry my eyes out just thinking about how I could lose her, as a father I would always do anything to protect my daughter from harm

This movie was such a piece of shit (they hammer into your head that racism is bad, wow, who knew!?) but this was the only scene that had even a tiny bit of effort put into it.
@liquiterge Glad you took the effort to comment on something you hate so much. Imagine what you could do if you put as much energy into something useful.
i am 19 years old and yet this didn't prevent me from crying, first because i am a sensitive passionate guy, and second coz now i have a 7 years old sister called lara, omg, she looks exactly like her!, i couldn't imagine before that my sister leave me and die!
I still cry at this scene when I watch it and I've seen the movie multiple times.

i saw this movie in my speech class last year in college and it made me tear up in class cause it was so powerful. i actually thought they were real bullets until i saw the movie again and realized the dudes daughter bought blanks from that racist gun seller. A few of my classmates noticed but they werent surprised cause of how powerful this scene was. Then i saw it again on my own time (NETFLIX) and it still made me cry
mikhail2689 1 year ago
This is a great film that was made using very little cash. And it also proves that the genre buffs are wrong as well as missing something that's indiginous to any storytelling medium. Its not about genre, its all about good storytelling. If your story is compelling and told well, the genre is just a detail and has no bearing on the final outcome of its impact on the viewer. This one has the added benefit of being grounded in a reality that everyone has dealt with at some point in their life.

The dad's face when his daughter is shot = instant tears for me. When the daughter tells him, "It's okay daddy, I'll protect you." and he checks her back and sees she's fine, and I am a complete mess.

I would have came back out and beat the fuck out of him and killed him. Self defense.
onexero1 1 year ago 2
@onexero1 You're not getting the message, apparently. You and people like you are what this movie was exposing.
RaVeN19Dizzle 1 year ago
@onexero1 Your logic leads me to believe that if you were the store owner you would have done much more than hold a man at gun point and inadvertantly shoot his daughter upon loosing your livelihood.
TeenageMuse 1 year ago
