I loved this movie. Russell's character, trained from birth to be only obedient, has to deal with foreign emotions--without direction--as he is first rejected and cast aside as irrelevant despite the fact he hasn't changed. He's still fit, still obedient.

Then he has to assimilate into a society that doesn't understand him or know what to do with him, and he doesn't understand the feelings their rejection has provoked. Russell doesn't talk much but speaks volumes. Great movie. Great acting.

well, this trailer doesn't bring the glory and the sharpness of the movie, the movie itself is brilliant, well played and nicely scripted. I like it, have it in my collection, I am a fan of movies about soldiers, not war, not the equipment but the mental point of view of a soldier, this movie has that and I love it for that, "But there is one thing that will never change": "politics talk, soldiers die..."

Great movie, what I didn't realize until watching it recently is that it's about post-traumatic stress disorder, the difficulty soldiers have with re-integrating with society, and how society treats their soldiers with disdain until they are needed. These themes were probably completely lost on the 1998 audience.

I think I got this for about 3 quid on VHS when I was 15, and I still felt cheated. And yes, Pal W.S. Anderson is allergic to success. He takes concepts that could be mind blowing and curns out something that's thoroughly terrible. Case in point Alien vs Predator, the movie geeks had been waiting twenty years for, what comes out is a 90 minute 15s rated yawn. Another; Underworld: Vampires vs Werewolves & Kate beckinsale in skintight leather,instead we get ~ 2 hours of depressing muddled story

I don't understand how high-profile scripts can be rejected or altered all-together. Warner Bros. gave this Peoples script to Paul Anderson and Jerry Weintraub (The Avengers movie). Why? It could've been a thoughtful movie like Blade Runner.

Suspension of disbelief. But plot-wise, the planet's people couldn't really pose a threat to the plans; the planet was needed. And it's always cleaner to kill with bullets than with nukes. The Tannhauser Gate was a battle that was cut from the movie due to budgetary concerns (it's mentioned as being one of the tattoos on his arm). It's also part of the Roy Batti's famous death speech from Blade Runner (I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhäuser Gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain. Time to die.)
