This all fine and dandy but, as u slow mo each of the kids swings they are all different! Each drill seems to cause a different bat angle to the ball. With the fruit picker being the least likely to help create actual tracking of the baseball to improve hand eye coordination! And, for crying outloud get rid of this kids hitch!
This is Crazy! The same idea ran through my head on the fruit picker last week...imitating the Joe Bauer tool...I also like the punching bag but I want to try the swinging tire instead. I have recently started using the two ball drop technique...Last night I was working with a kid that had trouble timing his swing on normal soft toss. As soon as we went to the two ball drop he started hitting everything with direct contact.
If you're really trying to "practice like you play", you should try to eliminate that little dance he does with his front foot before every swing. He's not going to have time to do that in a game situation, so it's not good to do it in practice. It's very cool that you're so interested in his sport.
@freeride88 Don't see the reason for eliminating a toe tap. Its his timing mechanism. Some batters can do without one, some can't. Albeit it does seem to bring too much movement before he swings. Eh if it works feel free to do it. Certainly works for Bryce Harper and BJ Upton.
@freeride88 A toe tap is a style of a hitter's load. Other loads are toe push, knee turn and leg lift. Every hitter NEEDS to have a load. Yes he will have time, you start your load so by the time you finish it and get into stride separation the pitcher is just releasing the ball. You're not supposed wait to see ball then start swing. 1 load 2 stride separation 3 head center axis (head still from this point on) 4 lower half starts swing 5 hands work straight to ball 6 dynamic balance throughout.
Not picking on the kid but it's only the same swing and contact inside, outside because he is stepping towards it not good mechanics.

it just ended in the middle of it

when the kid gets older, that toe tap will hurt him especially when pitchers actually start to throw hard
Melo7NY 6 months ago
@Melo7NY not really it might though. its just part of his load but yeah he will have to do that later than a normal load

@akaMyTvAdiction it will i learned the hard way unless his bat speed is fast
treyc3010 4 months ago
@treyc3010 i know. what i was saying is that he would have to start his motion earlier but then hes screwed if they throw a change up
akaMyTvAdiction 4 months ago
@akaMyTvAdiction yea i see what your saying
treyc3010 4 months ago
@Melo7NY but he should pause so its a real load

Try shooting him face on, 1 swing per file and upload the clips to PowerChalk so you can do real analysis of the mechanics.

bag way to far away on outside pitch bag needs to be deeper not so far out in front teaches improper timing

You need to take a 2x4 and fasten it to the bottom of the canvas with tethered cords so it won't flip up like that :)
