Well if you are so unorganized then yes you will have do that... the car is small enough that you will have tons of space to open the hatch if you park it correctly.

I have a cube, live in the city, and haven't had to park facing traffic and thus have the hatch swing to the curb side nor have I had a problem with parking and not being able to open it behind other than the on time the jackass with the escalade parked 7 inches from my bumper. But that time nothing in the back was getting opening.

Nissan got the trunk right... he obviously crosses a lane of oncoming traffic to park on the left side and make things a shit load harder.... just an observation.

They actually made the door a swing open type so that it would be easier to pack cargo in if you are traveling. Because we are in America, it is very often found that you will be parking with the right of the car facing where the luggage would be, as when you are at an airport for instance.

to add on to this, it is extremely rare to parallel park in the city and be packing luggage from the left side from the sidewalk...there's no sidewalk in the middle of the street.

Fuel economy is only in the low 30's on the highway, so probably mid to upper 20's city. Should be better for a car this size. Remember....this car is only somewhere between $12000 and $18000 - $20000 maxed out (Krom version) and would make a great commuter car or grocery-getter. It is NOT supposed to be a quarter-mile car or Nurburgring champ for Christ sake! Keep things in perspective.

Cool and different, and for a reasonable price. Well done, Nissan!

He's true about the hatch trunk, I think it may be too dangerous to have it open sideways.

For example, you pop a tire on the highway.. opening the trunk is going to be hard to avoid incoming cars as well.
