  • fantastic !! :) ha ha ha

  • Not a particularly difficult concept to grasp, but this video sums it up quite nicely. LOL

  • My teacher showed us the plato cave and then this to explain it... Lol

  • plato was clearly high off his face for most of his life

  • My philosophy teacher showed this to us. She was certain it would help explain it better. It worked.

  • Walt Disney made this.

  • You could have used actual voices... would have been less stupid...

  • wow. I might show this to my Philosopher teacher.... could get interesting :L

  • fuck this is awesome

  • this reminds me of the chinese fable of the frog who lives in the well, and tempts the sea turtle to join him, because the frog wrongly believes the well is amazing and wonderful, in light of his ignorance of all the incomphrensible vastness of the sea. The sea turtle tries to explain to the frog the illusion he is living, but is ultimately unable to find common ground for explantion.

Perhaps maybe the life on earth is a mere shadow of Heaven, or Nirvana, or whatever. But we'll be forever stuck

  • HAHAHAHAHAH more help ful then the real one

  • god chews my balls, therefore god exists, and cannot not exist.

  • This really is brilliant!

I'm trying to find some revision materials for philosophy to get me away from text books and essays for a while... i never knew philosophy could be so exciting.

  • where did he get the gun from?

  • My Acadec teacher showed us this. xD

  • haha This is Awesome!! definately helped me to understand the theory alot better! :)

  • excellent

  • Lmao !!!

  • When you first see the light, you think that the others will be excited to hear about it, but they usually think you are a religious nut because you act so different. It is sad how many people think that they are the enlightened ones when in fact, they are the ones in chains.

Just because you are good at reading the shadows, that doesn't mean you are enlightened.

  • this is BLOODY BRILLIANT MATE!!

this must have an OSCAR award!

  • lol :)

    good job...

  • This is so good! we watched this in my philosophy lesson...

  • HAHAHA this is hilarius!! our teacher told us to watch some other adaptations of the allegory since we watched the most popular one in class, but i wish we watched this lol i see some peopel here saw this one in class LOOOL!!!!! 5/5 hilarious xxx u gurs r legends!

  • dude i think my boyfriend is going to kill me one day for all the philosphy i talk about too lol

  • Very nice!

  • i don't think you can come back down into the cave after seeing the light.

  • @bseball323 Returning to the cave is representive of the struggle of enlightenment over ignorance. You have to share what you learned of the light with those who have never seen it and are therefore unequipped to understand it. Breaching ignorance with radical ideas has been the focus of philosophy throughout the ages and, as in the video, is dangerous as the fear of the unknown dominates the minds of the weak.

  • oh rofl!! very nice!!! and good interpretation too!!

  • I saw it in class yesterday :)

  • awesome XD I have to write an essay about this

  • HAHAHA! Our class watched this in Advance World History today since we read the Allegory a couple weeks back. AND OH MY GOD! Everyone was laughing sooooo hard. I started crying. This is hilarious!

  • That's fucking awesome. I'm using it in my philosophy project.

  • this is fucking marvelous.

  • hahahahaha loved it! This was more helpful than actually reading plato's passage.

  • fantastic video

  • (4/4)

    violence: pistol gun trigger; shotgun trigger; shots; hand combat; pain shout; explosion;

pink: HA HA HA, now you are dead. And I can live in ignorance again. As ignorance for normal people is bliss but not for philosophers.

It would be cool to have a new version with karaoke :)

  • (3/4)

blue: I must go back to the cave and tell my friends what there is out here in the light. They will be so thrilled. (steps)

blue: my friend! I have been outside this cave. And learned that everything you see here is a shadow of what is real. (strange sound...)

pink: Oh! Shut up. You are talking crap. I am tired of you taking all this gods wallop and poppycock so now I am going to kill you silly buns.

  • (2/4)

blue: Oh my God! it is so bright outside the cave. My eyes hurt. What is that?

sun: Hello! Mr Philosopher, I am the sun. I represent the form of the good. What you were seeing in the cave were not real.

sun: Everything you see here is real. Everybody look at the sun. Everybody look, at the sun. Everybody, look at the sun.

blue: look! a real duck, which represents the true forms. And what we were seeing in the cave, is ALL FAKE.

duck: QUAK QUAK QUAK QUAK QUAK QUAK QUAK QUAK!

  • (1/4)

pink: So, we have been in this cave quite a while now; have we not?

    blue: Yes, all our lives.

pink: Look Charles! A duck. I like ducks. They are my favorite animal.

pink: Oh my God. Look Charles! Your chain has broken.

blue: Oh no! I'm being dragged up the hill* of knowledge. Which represents me learning about the forms.

blue: Oh! Au! Oh! Au! Oh! I'm bleeding! This represents the struggle of the path towards true knowledge.

  • simple, concise, parsimonious and accurate!

  • Yeah, not quite Plato.

  • "So now I'm going to kill you silly buns"

    Rotfl! I love this

  • hauhauahuahauahuaha great

  • pretty funny

  • lol! really funny n will help me remember this for my philosophy exam next week :) thanks!

  • Galvenais, ka ir darīts! Nē, labi, protams. Četras zvaigznes.

  • Brilliant video! Plato would be proud!!!

  • Brilliant video!I like!

May sound sad, but how did you create it?What programs etc did you use?

    Cheers

    Peace

  • amazing....

  • Nice video man. LOL!

  • lol this def summed everything up..haha I think i might actually pass this exam.. lmao

  • how did he do that beeing in chains ? :D

  • "how did he do that beeing in chains ?"

What he discovered when he got outside the cave was that he was a cartoon.

  • It's like Socrates trying to show Athenians critical thinking methods, they didn't mind the truth provided that it was not that particular truth, something which allowed them to support their superstitions and prejudice would have been better. So they killed him. Just like discovering you are a cartoon, that doesn't tell you about youtube, people watching, or who made the vid.

It just is what it is.

Religion is so small minded that it actually hurts to know so many people are so wilfully dim.

  • he shot him THEN punched him?

  • Then he exploded

  • THIS IS FUCKING HILARIOUS! have to show this to my philosophy class - we're doing the republic :P

  • Absolutely brilliant! What software did ya'll use to make this?

"...shadows of what is real hyun huh ha" LOL

  • LOL, OMG! Everything in your barbarian culture finish in shot, blood and death. Barbarian anglo-saxons LOL...

  • he did understand it..... u must not understand sense of humor.... but either way ur response shows that u do not see enlightenment in others... this video was like an exaggeration of the interpretation, but it was DEAD (no pun intended) on....

  • bah bah bah bah im luvin it n stuff

  • this is rly cool

  • everybody needs to take the veil off of their eyes!

i am studying plato's cave and i am 13, its weird but this is a true representation of it

  • wish some one had tried to teach me stuff like that at your age. would have sped things up for me.

  • Nice! Everybody look at the sun.....

  • looks like a duck, sounds like a duck; it is as duck!

  • Are you ripping on the University of Oregon?

Also duck is also a verb: to duck.

  • why did he shot his friend?

    what's behind on that?

    :)

  • "i am tired of you talking all this Godswallop and poppycock so now i am going to kill you silly buns." hhehe, great job!

  • haha...awesome!! what about the part where he sees the statues though....

  • everybody look at the sun

  • lmao, fecking brilliant! I love this. Especially the end.

  • i've watched several different versions of the allegory of the cave and this is by far the funniest one.

  • HAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH

"everybody look at the sun" hahahahahahaah

  • haha, that actually helped thank you

  • My Philosophy teacher showed this video to us in class!

  • LMAO im studying Philosophy at college and this is probably the best way iv ever seen this explained thank you so much i even made notes from this :P

  • LAWLAWL

  • Haha nice video.

I'm studying the parable of the cave at A2 level now, it's a nightmare.

It's nice to see a humourous version of this to be honest.

  • hahaha thats a great video, I haven't studied philosophy academically but it obviously comes up from time to time in literature etc and is something im very interested in, i think younger people should be shown these sort of videos so they can grasp a basic understanding of concepts such as platos theories whilst still having fun

  • Very good! Thanks

  • Thats one real duck alright!

  • Oh my goodness, LMAO.

  • very creative and hilarious!

i saw it on zalinski's page.

  • this video is a rip (fart rip)

  • wo0w... it was actually helpful :)

  • i got a 2.1 for philosophy

  • Overall i did like it, but i don't think the end was as Plato meant. Plato meant that if a philosopher understands the truth, it doesn't mean everyone else wants to live in ignorance, it's just that they haven't seen the truth themselves. And that's why they don't believe him. BTW i think Plato made this story for philosophers like his teacher Socrates, who got killed for ruining the youth with his theories. Which is like knowing the truth but everyone else thinking you tell lies.

  • who cares it was freaking awesome!!

hey my philo teacher is a wanker i get to have my relese.

  • This may just help me pass my philosophy exam tomorrow.

  • yer, i think the pain is from not seeing real light...and so you can only look at reflections (illusions)...then the objects themselves and then the Sun which you assume logically rules over all. But I like it :) it is helping me revise

  • lol @ oh shut up your talking crap.

hey, ive also been dragged up the path of knowledge lately - and yes it hurts like a b1tch.

  • BEST VIDEO EVER.

  • Did I mention, best video ever? Just checking. :P

  • Did I mention, best video ever? Just checking. :P

  • BEST VIDEO EVER.

  • Dude.....

This video has nothing to do with that subject, so take your spam elsewhere.

  • are you kidding? Go read the allegory of the cave and you'll get the humor behind this video. It's pure sarcasm... and right on point.

  • I'm not talking about the video I'm talking about that guys comment.

  • "Everybody look at the sun"

Is this supposed to be a metaphor for saying that finding to much knowledge immediately after leaving ignorance will only close your mind because a person coming out of a cave looking at the sun would be blinded.

Or am I just overthinking this?

  • no... what Plato is saying is that when you come out of ignorance for the first time you experience a sharp pain (like the pain you feel when you stare at the sun)

  • The truth is our society is totally blinded by the "cave" even philosophers are guilty of this. We are all stuck in our own paradigm and can never see the entire truth no matter what. I love Plato, but he is an arrogance son of a bitch (for thinking only philosophers can see reality and should lead the nation)

Plato's notion of hierarchy is what kept him as ignorant as other citizens were in my opinion.

  • For cutebootie69

Maybe a philosopher is just a term for another social group of thinkers! Anyhow, we're all humans. And the cause of this is that Plato was because of his family background. Destiny had sth better for him. Like the cave. Even the philosopher are ignorant and blinded in some way. It all goes better if we open our mind nor our eyes, turn our heads and look into many aspects of things happening around us. I really like that you brought this up!

  • haha THis is so true... I feel like this when I come out of the cave. My friends all want to kill me when I tell them what I've learned outside the cave :/ LOL

"Ignorance for normal peopel is bliss but not for philosophers" I love Plato !!
