The Sugar Hill Gang didn't use a band to record Rapper's Delight. They used a sample from Chic's "Good Times." Most Hip Hop groups used samples back then. Samples, synthesized sounds (or "beats"), and studio musicians are no more important than the other. They're all different ways for the artist to achieve the sound they want. If Method didn't want to use a band, more power to him, but you don't have to slag ?uest (or any other live musician.)

And as far as "samples" go w/ "Rapper's Delight", there were no commercially available samplers around back then. The only "samplers' in the late 70's were multi-tape decks used by Chris Carter from Throbbing Gristle and The Cab V..
