based on what i have observed, a lot of maranao men are boastful and tactless. they dont care if their words have hurt others and they brag even in the most nonsense things. no wonder why when the word maranao is mentioned, such words like boastful and hypocrites are linked by the majority. most of the maranao men culture helps a lot in destroying the image of islam and muslims.
Many of these typical Southeast Asian dances are sanskrit influenced and were already present before Christianity or Islam arrived. To state that this is a 'Muslim' dance is incorrect. Besides a lot of Muslims don't even allow girls to be dancing and making up and putting on costumes. Many non-Muslims in The Philippines execute these dances perfectly. There is no such thing as a Muslim dance neither is there a Christian dance or a Jewish dance. The performers might be Muslim, possible.
this dance is called "MALONG DANCE" a maranao traditional dance, POPULARIZED BY THE MARANAO TRIBE....WHO TOLD THAT THIS KIND OF DANCE IS A MUSLIM DANCE....there's no such as muslim dance!
back then girls are not allowed to entertain or dance.i am half maranao and spend few years in marawi city.i was so surprised seeing this video.i mean people now are so open minded/liberated.thats cool.sallam from toronto canada
yes...this is the REAL kapamalong-malong of my muranaw sisters...not does fake folk dancing type. let us keep the different moro cultural arts alive before they are destroyed or forgotten.
how somber the music is has little to do with the rhythm and beat of the music, the rhythm and beat of this piece resembles Japanese music a great deal, especially
Yes I know, and I understand your point. But take the time to listen to the music of the Japanese and of the Javanese. The stringed instrument you hear in this Maranao piece is used to create a tune similar to what you can hear in Japanese music. Whereas in Javanese music, the basis of the tune is from gongs. Listen to the tune from 2:30 and so on - resembles Japanese music does it. I am not saying though, that all Maranae pieces sound like this, I am talking about this piece specifically.
I'm talking about cultural and historical relationships.....sure the "Japanese-like music" that you hear in the background music is kind of similar to Japanese koto because they are both using stringed instruments BUT based on the cultural and historical proximity, and even origins, of the maranao and javanese people, it is safer to say that te maranao music on the video has similarities with javanese music instead of japanese music.
You don't have to keep doing JaV and JaP. Of course if I can talk to you and tell you directly that I don't think this piece sound Javanese, I am familiar with Javanese music. I traveled to Indonesia two years ago to Bandung (which is Sundanese) but I visited Yogyakarta (Javanese) and watched their classical dance and listened to their music, and I still do that on youtube. I
think it is fair and wise that we are having this discussion, but it is ignorant desperate in my opinion to ask the other person if they are familiar/acquainted with the subject.
I'm just asking those "ignorant, desperate" questions in order to see what made you arrived to that previous conclusion of yours that the traditional music on the background is similar to japanese music. oh well, like i could care anyway. if you think asking is an insult in a discussion, then i dont have any intentions to do so. crap, lets just enjoy and appreciate the video.
Well I am not talking about cultural relationships and proximity to each other am I! I am talking about the rhythm and tune of the music. Obviously you didn't take time to analyze my texts. End of discussion.
