  • Homeschooling is a matter of civil rights,

    be careful,

Obama may want to forbid many civil rights

  • brownback is a religous crazy lunatic.

  • It's funny to me how uneducated people are on home schooling. I guess you don't know until you've done some research.

I can say without hesitation, the day my country tells me I can't home school... will be they day I will leave my country. My children and their education are too important to be political fodder.

  • Auto indoctrination and innoculation against outside concepts. Homeschooled children will never gain another culture's perspective unless raised by traveling parents. Such makes for a closed society, which is what each church wants. Homeschooling is about limiting content and exposure, not a better education.

  • School isn't the only place where the children interact with others, the idea isn't to live in a some kind of nuclear refugee. Simply is a system that work for many families , I'm very disappointed about the quality of education (in Central america is very poor), let the people live in liberty... ¡

  • home schooling...what a terrifying prospect

  • yes, children might actually learn something...now that is frightening...

  • Homeschooling is great but remember that it's not 4 extroverted children as they wiil always lack large groups of peers at school. But it is very good 4 introverted children as they r far more disciplined and will not lack any larger groups of children. But there's only a quarter of introverts among world population. And here in polan it's not legally possible 4 parents 2 homeschool their children.

  • actually it's great for extroverts, too, because there is a whole community out there just waiting to be interacted with at all times of the day, not just a small space in afternoon or evening. Here in America there are tons of homeschoolers and homeschool groups to socialize with, not to mention activities they regularly participate in, and churches, etc.

  • Basically speaking social interactions abound a great deal with "most" homeschooled children, many times moreso than the public or private schooled child, and their interactions and social life are usually more well-rounded because they are not generally restricted to one age group of people.

  • Brownback says that you should be free and have the right as 'you see fit'. What about the right to communicate as 'you see fit'? Under Senator Brownback's wacko 'Intl Romance Regulation Act' it is now a FELONY to write friendship letters or even say 'Hello' to foreigners. Why is Brownback avoiding this issue that he feels so strongly about?

  • It's true that homeschoolers are winning multiple academic competions year after year. It's also true that homeschoolers are now purposefully sought after by Ivy League schools, because they are self-disciplined leaders who don't just follow the crowds blindly. Sam's support for a parent to raise his/her child in a sacrificial way, giving of one's time and finances to put children above our own comfort is a wonderful support. Thanks.

  • I agree completely, as a mother of one, I am planning on homeschooling her, and can't think of any better way for her to be educated. Besides all of the controversy over whether a child should be home schooled or not because of interaction with other children, or if they are being taught enough, isn't this the United States? We can make other decisions for our families, we should be able to in this area also.

  • Yea, it's also a fabulous way to shelter kids from the reality of the outside world.

  • My homeschooled children are more involved in extracurricular/social/community activities than they ever were in public schools, and are engaging, well educated children. This is the norm. I have yet to meet a hs'ing family like what you describe. Educate yourself before you spread broad, stereotypical myths. You might find an alternative for your own kids, and if not, that's okay, as it's a tremendous responsibility that not everyone is cut out for. I'm at thinkaware dot blogspot dot com

  • Just because you are responsible and open-minded enough to involve your home-schooled children in extracurricular/social/community activities does not mean every home-schooled parent does either.

  • There ARE parents out there who home-school their children because they ignorantly fear that other children and teachers will 'infect' their minds. At least with public or private schooling, parents and teachers can almost always be certain that their children are learning from, and interacting with, other children.

Not to mention, not all parents are suited to teach their children all the courses and subjects that they could learn in school.

  • Keep speaking out for the truth, Senator Brownback!
