This was worth the 4:05 just to hear that last note.. precise.. powerful... and emotive. That pretty much sums up everything she sings. AND... take note Mariah.. Beyonce.. Whitney.. Rihanna... SHE CAN DO IT LIVE !!!
@megavega4 She also has a much better vibrato than all those singers you just mentioned. Her voice has beauty and an exceptional quality, not just technique.
@zetvierzehn Thank you for noticing the ridiculousness of that comment...While Andrea has a great instrument, I find him to be expressionless and cold emotionally...I have NEVER made an emotional connection with him...Donna brings chills to me...good chills, btw...Different things, different people...
ohh WOAW man what a wonderfull Woman i love her voice so wonderfull :-) i enjoy every song from her . im always happy wen i hear Donna Summer singing. thank you for this lovely live song :-)
Why is it that American singers and some Brit singers decide to do shows like this with audiences that look like cadavers? These audiences are mostly Eastern European or just plain European shows that cater to old dinosaurs. Ugh. These audiences also don't get the music and they are stiff. Is it just me or is it older European audiences are bland and boring? Here in the states, older DS fans are energetic and remember her from the 70s and are into it and show it too.
She just turned 62 last month, on the very same day as my sister turned 60. It goes to show you that if you take care of yourself & your God given Instrument, you can sing clearly for a long, long time. Unlike some artist, who is many years younger and chose to "par~tay" just a bit too much, and almost destroyed their God given talent. No need to name artist's, but I'm certain most of you know for whom I'm speaking of... Ms. WH, so very sad. God Bless!
Is It Just Me or has Her Voice gotten Much More Powerful as She has Aged, Now that is Highly Unusual, Its' Usually the Other Way around, the Same with Ms. Martha Wash, Her Voice has Grown Much Stronger as well as She has Aged well Vocally. Unfortunately not so for Many of Our Other Truly Great-Singers of All-time.,I Seem to remember that My Favorite-Singer of All-Time Ms. Marian Anderson even stopped her Live-Performances after a Certain-Age.
@INFINITEINDIGOCHILDE Her voice may have gotten stronger but so did the technology.... Voices are now highly produced. One does not have to be a great singer anymore...the production company and the "effects" put on a mic will do a lot of the work. I don't know if this is the case with Donna but it certainly is with the vast majority of singers.
@omegala1 You can hear that she's 'helped' on that last note. Either by a backtrack of her own voice or a back-up singer. That still doesn't take anything away from her performance though. :D
I like Donna Summers and she is very good in this song. She has a unique voice and I can see through the years she is getting better. Her voice even is stronger. When she was young she was kind of shy, but with years she just communicate more with the audience when she sings. God bless her unique talent!!
@omegala1 That's YOUR opinion. This song was a huge hit in the clubs. If you are not into club music, then why listen to Donna? I can tell you aren't even a true Donna fan or a fan of dance music. The original version in Italian is great but she does a great job in the dance version too. It's so uplifting when played in the clubs. You just haven't experienced it yet. This song in the 90s filled the dance floor many times over!
@cjs33139 I was in grade school in the 90's so I didn't go to clubs. I love, study and appreciate all kinds of music. Maybe the way she interpreted this song sounded great because of her popularity and the music in vogue at that time. I listened to her version a few more times and stand firm in my opinion that it doesn't stand the test of time. This is one song that doesn't translate well to other genres. Donna is a legend and has a great voice... but not for this song.
@omegala1 There you go. You weren't even of club age, so you have no concept of how popular this song was in both gay and straight clubs. This song even won a Grammy for best dance single. I know you say it doesn't translate well and that is your opinion. I actually dislike the Italian slow version. Doesn't interest me at all, but that's my taste and opinion. Donna did that song a favor in my opinion because in its original format, it's a snoozer. Oh well, to each their own.
Blacks do not have very good tonal characteristics for singing and for the same basic reason do not have good speaking voices either, they just simply do not have the pipes. Volume is present but not quality.
@MaJic127 I completely understand why she did NOT attempt to sing that last note as a singer myself. That note is sung at full voice and is very difficult to sing. And Donna has lots of shows to do and lots of promotion (as this clip is evident) and I too would not waste my voice singing that note every day and every performance. But the rest of the song is sung live, even the high parts in every chorus. That's awesome!
DAMN! That was GUUD! ANd folks, totally LIVE! She only had (also live) support on that last note for the first few seconds than the backing voalst stopped and she carried on. She did an amazing job! Hallelujah!
Mariah Carey, take lessons. Singers with *REAL* vocal talent do not have to get damn near naked on stage in order to express emotions or make a point. Donna is fully clothed and the voice by itself is the draw, not shaking hips, tits and butt.
@shaneqaz it's not lip synched. donna summer is extremely good live.... one of the best singers i've ever heard and i'm a seasoned producer so i know what i'm talking about.
I see that you said nevermind but i still gotta say it.
The fact that the original song was in Italian and then it was also remade into Spanish around the same time donna summers did this english remix of it.

Wow, anger issues much? Is the original better? I think so, but that's a matter of opinion. She took a classical song & made it her own. She made it appeal to listeners of almost any genre (sans you, Simon). Just because you don't care for it, doesn't mean she didn't do a good job. Last I heard you weren't a multi-million dollar, Grammy winning singer with loads of history under their belt. How bout next time you just shut up. Nothing nice to say? Don't say it.

@doula1956 : That is so very true....Her voice has gotten stronger over the years....I love Donna Summer! I've been a fan since on the radio (the 8 track). LOL!
@doula1956 Donna was born in 1948 on New Year's Eve so that makes her 61 and I agree that when you hear her Live you can't tell a major difference between a recording or Live. she prob needs only minor touch ups in the studio.
@doula1956 You're right. I saw her in concert in Boston and she was amazing. She sounded just like a studio recording and that in my opinion is the true measure of a good singer. So often you like an artist on record only to be dissapointed when you see them in person. Not with Donna. She truly delivers a fantastic voice that has only gotten better with time. I love her.
@brookeaprilrain Hey There! If you had the good fortune of seeing her live, you'd know with certainty, that it is all her voice, and as percise as being in a recording studio. There aren't many artiste today that you can say that about, unfortunately!! Make a great day happen!!
just listen to that pitch control! she remains one of the most amazing vocalists of all time, truly amazing! Hi oshunbaby, you are right that some cultures are diffrent and more reserved, i am english born but irish thru and thru! i would have been on my feet!
just look at that audience, someone should put them back in the deep freeze! that was a mega performance. I dont know her personally of course but she is at the top of her game with stuff like this. I remember the stuff she said about gay people like me, aids/divine retribution ect, However she paid the price as her sales nosedived, we should forgive but not tolerate her interpretation of the bible! Great performance, should have been a bigger single than it was, i still like her music!
custard51, first it seems like it was an older folks as audience second, if it was out of the USA, they might find it impolite to stand and cheer. some cultures might seem standoffish" to Americans.

Talk about a mixed bag of emotions where this track is concerned,,,she;s a bastard in real life and a Dive fuck whore that I would on one hand glady run over whilst driving down the street,..yet if someone else stole her voice,...I'd go after tham and do the business,...she's an Enigma .......she has the ULTIMATE Raw talent of a professional singer,.....just a shame she's a cunt in real life ;-(
You're quite retarded. Is that all you can say is f##k off, and idiot. You should spend more time getting some manners or an education then going on YouTube.
oh im sooo cared. NOT. you truly are a weirdo. all i can do is laugh at you. and just out of curiosity who exactly is going to give me this brutal and painful death?
Yes, Donna's opera background does sound familiar...And wasn't she with the "Hair" cast of the late 60s? (I might be wrong on that...) Donna and this song really kick ass!
@mrob75 - You are correct, she was in Hair in Europe, I think London or maybe Germany. She did live in Germany (her husband is/was German) for awhile and speaks fluent German. That is where her singing career started. She is not only extremely talented, but very intelligent as well. I had the pleasure of seeing her in concert last year here in California. She was amazing! Donna is one of my favorite singers of all time. She is a true Diva!
It is very easy for everyone to sit down and judge people or criticized not knowing what are they talking about, why don´t they get up on stage and try to do it better and then we will listen to their complaints. Give possitive advices and don´t bother with negative coments or get a job.
has anyone else realized that her voice craks and the track keeps playing? listen . Turn your volume up and listen to 3.50. by 3.53 her voice totally craks, and she just goes with it. What a performer. I love it!!!!
Both Donna and Andrea are INCREDIBLY TALENTED people and should be respected for what they give to this world, happiness and joy. If you like Andrea you'll love the "greatest Tenor" of all CARUSO, and if you like Donna you'll love ARETHA
very good singer but i think she could have dont much better with her powerful voice. she is so talented yet she didnt let that show in this song. she did display her vocals ver nicely but she did the song no justice. sounded a little generic. i thinks she was holding back. probably cuz the producer wanted her to sing it that way. but damn what a waste. she could so tear this song up if she was let go. come on donna just let it go and that rendition will be remember for years to come.
too bad most of Europe, considered the home of classical music and fine art, did not agree with you because it was number one in Spain, Italy and many other countries when released in all its 15 glorious versions and remixes, another Donna triumph in a 35+ yr career with a voice stronger than ever at 60.
Beautiful song and the lovely Soulful Disco Queen DONNA SUMMER's sings it with such deep warmth & passion. Ms. Summer's has some mighty vocal range on her just awesome!
Both versions are beautiful. I have a recorded version of Donna singing this in italian. Has anyone heard it? It's also beautiful. I bet this is a difficult song to sing, especially that last note. She's great!
I know this isn't the version cultural sticklers might like (I like them all), but it has a special place in my musical heart because it was playing in the nightclubs when I first began going out and partying.
I love this clip, I agree, she did a very melodic version of this Bocelli classic, Donna being a living legend in her own right, Donna displays her diverse singing talents, she is awesome! I have loved this woman since I was 14 years old, I am and always will be a loyal fan!
Great voice, I don't agree with perverting others music to appeal to certain groups of people who normaly probaly wouldn't even hae heard the original. How many 13 year old girls would listen to this song v.s. the original?
Sorry, my friend, but you are wrong. I was at this performance in Spain and it was totally live. She hit ever high note perfectly, as always. I worked for the production company and had the chance to watch her before the show. No lip synching like most divas.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
No, I'm not wrong. She is flat on the notes leading up to it, and throughout the song when she goes into that range. Which would lead to the logical assumption that, since it sounds like the "diva" in The Fifth Element, it is a synthesizer playing the note while she throws her head back without struggling. Odd she didn't struggle on the last note as you say, but she struggled leading up to it in the last run.
You're way off base. I have see many singers perform live and this performance is flawless. I saw DS perform live this summer in L.A. She performed this song, along with other "belters", and she right on que. If you don't like the song, that is one thing. But, she clearly hit the high notes, which is something she is very well known for.
This was worth the 4:05 just to hear that last note.. precise.. powerful... and emotive. That pretty much sums up everything she sings. AND... take note Mariah.. Beyonce.. Whitney.. Rihanna... SHE CAN DO IT LIVE !!!

just look at that audience, someone should put them back in the deep freeze! that was a mega performance. I dont know her personally of course but she is at the top of her game with stuff like this. I remember the stuff she said about gay people like me, aids/divine retribution ect, However she paid the price as her sales nosedived, we should forgive but not tolerate her interpretation of the bible! Great performance, should have been a bigger single than it was, i still like her music!
custard51 2 years ago
custard51, first it seems like it was an older folks as audience second, if it was out of the USA, they might find it impolite to stand and cheer. some cultures might seem standoffish" to Americans.

if i am not mistaken Donna Summer has a background about opera.
ghiberti 2 years ago 3
Yes, Donna's opera background does sound familiar...And wasn't she with the "Hair" cast of the late 60s? (I might be wrong on that...) Donna and this song really kick ass!
mrob75 2 years ago 2

So true! I am JUDGING DONNA NOW! She is AWESOME! =)
ghiberti 2 years ago
has anyone else realized that her voice craks and the track keeps playing?

Listen to, and love and appreciate them all.

wow shes kind of man like in this video clip. Oh well not everyone can be as hot as us Italian chicks!!!!!! Ciao. Bella italia

very good singer but i think she could have dont much better with her powerful voice. she is so talented yet she didnt let that show in this song. she did display her vocals ver nicely but she did the song no justice. sounded a little generic. i thinks she was holding back. probably cuz the producer wanted her to sing it that way. but damn what a waste. she could so tear this song up if she was let go. come on donna just let it go and that rendition will be remember for years to come.

well Andrea Bocelli singing opera is a disgrace to real tenors everywhere, but you don't hear us bitching every time he opens his mouth do you?

too bad most of Europe, considered the home of classical music and fine art, did not agree with you because it was number one in Spain, Italy and many other countries when released in all its 15 glorious versions and remixes, another Donna triumph in a 35+ yr career with a voice stronger than ever at 60.

Both versions are beautiful. I have a recorded version of Donna singing this in italian. Has anyone heard it? It's also beautiful. I bet this is a difficult song to sing, especially that last note. She's great!
npo64 2 years ago 3
I know this isn't the version cultural sticklers might like (I like them all), but it has a special place in my musical heart because it was playing in the nightclubs when I first began going out and partying.

I love this clip, I agree, she did a very melodic version of this Bocelli classic, Donna being a living legend in her own right, Donna displays her diverse singing talents, she is awesome! I have loved this woman since I was 14 years old, I am and always will be a loyal fan!

Not many.
LaMona1965 2 years ago 3
Great voice, I don't agree with perverting others music to appeal to certain groups of people who normaly probaly wouldn't even hae heard the original. How many 13 year old girls would listen to this song v.s. the original?
EmptyBottleTherapies 3 years ago
I like Donna's music, she's a great singer. But having said that, this is terrible. This song needs to stay with Bocelli.

Man... she f*cked up a great song with this version.
DreOdz 3 years ago
She doesn't hit the high note at the end - you can easily tell its' a synthesizer.
mackinskor71 3 years ago
Sorry, my friend, but you are wrong. I was at this performance in Spain and it was totally live. She hit ever high note perfectly, as always. I worked for the production company and had the chance to watch her before the show. No lip synching like most divas.
str82hell4u 3 years ago
This comment has received too many negative votes show
No, I'm not wrong. She is flat on the notes leading up to it, and throughout the song when she goes into that range. Which would lead to the logical assumption that, since it sounds like the "diva" in The Fifth Element, it is a synthesizer playing the note while she throws her head back without struggling. Odd she didn't struggle on the last note as you say, but she struggled leading up to it in the last run.
mackinskor71 3 years ago
She always throws her head back during performances. It is called projecting. Watch her live videos and you will see for yourself.
str82hell4u 3 years ago 3
You're way off base. I have see many singers perform live and this performance is flawless. I saw DS perform live this summer in L.A. She performed this song, along with other "belters", and she right on que. If you don't like the song, that is one thing. But, she clearly hit the high notes, which is something she is very well known for.
siciliansummer 3 years ago 2
He is a 25 y/o expert. What a dipshit. He doesn't know real singing if it blasted out of his arse hole. Donna rules. Her voice is perfect.
