I saw this film during my first year at the teacher´s training college and has stuck with me ever since!! It clearly sets the path on what teaching is all about, Love dedication and passion for what you do!!! And I may add Being flexible and capable to adapt to your students, yet trying not to loose your own beat!! Cheers for these fantastic movie and amazing actors!!
my music teacher would always make us watch this every year for music class and I can't help but get excited over this movie. It's soo good, and meaningful <3
Whenever I bring up Richard Dreyfuss in a conversation, nobody has any clue as to who the hell I'm talking about. Pity for them, he's such an underrated gem of an actor.
Ever notice from the first part to the later part of the film where Mr. Holland says "Beethoven wasn't born deaf" how Richard Dreyfuss looks like whow he looked in American Graffiti? He was great in that film, Jaws and he was (in my opinion) at his best in this film. I wish I could find the DVD of this, though.
Oh, I love this movie. I remember seeing it in the theater in Damariscotta, Maine in 1995 with my friend. We were both 11 years old. My dad bought me the soundtrack for Christmas that year. :-)
Really? o.O I would have loved to do something like that when I was still in school. Just watch the movie - if you like music at least a little bit, writing this report won't be hard ^^

its movies like this that glorify that worthless business. I did it for years and it sucks. the summers off doesnt mean we take off, the bills dont stop coming. dont waste your time.
i think most of us know the trouble teachers are having not only because of the media but many of us had teachers complain about it to us when we were in school. though it can be a thankless job full of stress and crap there is a chance some of the kids you taught got a lot out of it and even though they haven't told you im sure they are grateful for it. hope you are in a better job now though
It's a remarkable little composition really. It begins with a few trite opening "music school" notes that quickly crescendo to a major symphonic orchestra sound. However when I first saw this movie I vividly remembered the fade out at 2:43. Incredibly nostalgic, with the piano echoing the notes of a bygone academic era.
This movie was my favorite ever since I was introduced to this back in high school and it became an inspiration for me in life and with my love of music and it taught how I can conduct
This movie shows what a great actor Richard Dreyfuss is. I remember watching this film in 7th grade English & thinking what a unique & touching film it was.
Due to some copyright problems with MGM, part 8 and 13 have been taken down. The reason for the copyright: The music in the clips!? The songs: I've Got A Woman and The Pretender are in those 2 clips and I guess they belong to MGM. So they deleted the audio in the video clips. I just decided to take down the clips because watching a movie without audio would be very boring. But if I get a bunch of responses saying that you want the clips still up without the audio, I will put them back up.
Dude you should totally put them back up! I used to ride a long distance bus route 4-6x per month for 2-3hrs each ride. Never wanted to pay $5 for the headphones, and always forgot my own, but man did I ever watch a lot of movies w/out sound! Totally unique experience, but doesn't take too much away.
@MrHollandsOpusMov Me too. It doesn't seem like a two hour movie at all. Every scene is well done, and the soundtrack outside and within the movie is absolutely amazing. Some of the best pieces of music. Immortal Beloved still beats this movie out. And possibly Copying Beethoven, but I do think it's better than Amadeus, mainly because the little Mozart was a spoiled little highly talented annoying brat.... IMMORTAL BELOVED is a MUST. Y am I tellin yall this. I'm sure you all know bout em
i love this movie!! i love to make music-not just listening to it on the radio. i love to play the piano. this movie is the perfect tribute to music, musicians,(REAL music)and it also represents people who have special gifts/talents and maybe even learning disabilities who are also gifted-like the girl with the red hair.
Great movie... The music is even better. Len Barry starts it off with "123" from 1965.

Far too idealistic to be watchable a second time. It's as predictable as knowing what number comes after '1' when counting.

@MrPman851 Watch Once Around with Holly Hunter. This is another one of Richard Dreyfuss jewels. One of
his other best. Always is another one of his great movies. This man is an amazing talent, and now he has
a small part in the television series Parenthood.
