  • That is TONE!

  • Nailed it

  • Sounds awesome:) Are you going to post any Cream/Hendrix-style clips anytime soon? That's more of what I go for personally. Gotta sell some stuff first but I'm interested in buying one.

  • I own a few hot rod amps, and love Diezel amps, but this M50 is amazing, it has a beautiful TONE, the M100 is as impressive, a base price of around $1,599 for something that actually sound as good or better than a plexi and it's brand new, it is a steal.

If i have to decide between Granger , a Marshall or a EVH, I would go for Granger,

    without a moment of hesitation.

  • Sounds more Eddie than Eddie. Nice work!

  • NICE.

  • Hi Curt, wich & how reverb and tape echo did you use on this record? (i'm trying to affect less possible my M50 tone)...

    did you use Variwatt attenuation?

Do you think my M50 could sound better if i use 220-110 wall voltage adaptor? (i'm in Italy)

    Thanks!

    Adriano

  • @drino5150 No attenuator. Effects were added from Roland 1680 during conversion. if you can get the voltage to 110 it will sound a little browner, since my wall voltage is around 122-124 most of the time. "Better" is of course, subjective.

  • my god what sweet harmonics.... man ... man.. for an amp you grabbed, threw a recording interface and an sm57 at... heck .. cant beat that.

  • This is so epic... its really unreal. I think I'm sold. Looking to buy one now. Unfortunately you've got this thing cranked to ungodly levels. heh.

  • @goingwithzed No, not ungodly level. MV was on 5. My usual gigging volume. Thanks for the compliment.

  • How come I can't find anyone else with videos of these amps except the guy who make them??

  • @skunizzi Do a search for Granger Amps - JCM800 2204 Replica by willywonkerful. I wish more of my customers would post clips. Can't really answer that except to guess that 1) They don't have video/recording setups, 2) they are too busy, or 3) they don't use YouTube. I would love to get a clip of Willian Duvall from Alice in Chains playing his M50.

  • @skunizzi I just got my hands on a M-50 Plexi and the tone is killer without any effects. Purple with white Snake skin tolex. I use a MOFO 2X12 cabinet its a perfect match. Sorry no video capabilities :(

I have bragging rights My serial number is #1 so I guess I have the 1st one out there ever sold.

  • @Dyna6363 It's not the #1 M50, I own that. ;-) It's actually a custom M50 I built that became the prototype M502 Solo Plexi. So congrats on having the #1 of that model.

  • Does anyone at Granger amps ever answer any emails?

  • @skunizzi Yes, every day, except weekends when we're closed. I reply to every single email I receive. That said, if you didn't receive a reply, check your spam filters and add grangeramp d o t com to your whitelist.

  • how does this amp do on tones of like led zeppelin or other classic rock tones?

  • @wankerpuss It does great, like any good handwired Plexi would.

  • I like this amp. I don't get to say (or type) those words very often. I had a few "plexi" style amps that all claimed to be just like the originals and they weren't even just like each other, and none sounded all that amazing to me. I briefly played through a JMP and also a JTM-something with KT66's, and liked them both, but not enough to sell my car. This amp seems tighter and more focused than other el34 amps, and definitely has more clarity and note definition. I'm impressed.

  • I am selling my EVHiii head to buy this head. This head sounds amazing!

  • @JBL8863 We have one built and ready to ship.

  • @grangeramp I'm on your mailing list...I just seen the 20 watt version with variance...VERY impresive! I still like this one for my needs...

I'm waiting on selling my EVH3 before I can move on buying one of your great amps...I think your amps sounds better than the EVH3 I own...

I've jumped around buying and selling amp heads tone chaseing...Bugera plexi, Soldano hotrod 50+ and now the EVH3...Your amps have a life time waranty make it a no brainer...I hope to do bussiness real soon...

  • @JBL8863 Thanks for the awesome compliment, much appreciated!

  • TOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONNNNNNNNNNNNNNNEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @Tobiscuits THANKS!! :-)

  • Sounds very EDDIE

  • WOW! Sounds amazing. How does the M100 Superplexi sound with Van Halen riffs.

I think that I would prefer this over an actual Marshall.

  • @NickMass35 The M100 does Van Halen great as well. I think I did a few VH riffs in the clip.

  • How does this amp compare to a Metroamp, Ceriatone or even a Marshall 1959HW? Looking at tone, building quality, and price?

  • @adam10603 Very similarly. Main differences: Metro - higher price, master volume is a $25 add-on. Ceriatone - Asian made transformers (which I can't offer an opinion on since I've never used them), and shipping/import costs. Marshall - much higher price, no master volume. All very cool, great sounding amps. George and Nik do great work. I don't think any of the mentioned companies offer a lifetime warranty to the original owner like I do, except Metro. I use ClassicTone transformers, made in USA

  • @grangeramp

    Sounds good!

  • @grangeramp What is it about this transformer that you like compared to A Mercury?

  • @FriggnDiggn It sounds better (to my ears) in an A/B listening test, and cost about 1/4 the price.

  • Were you wearing earplugs when you made this clip? ☺

  • @electrickithara WHAT???!! lol.. No, I wasn't.

  • to my surprise, a plexi is a very versital amp. I didn't think it was! You can go from big sounding hendrix cleans, through AC/DC, all the way to almost hi-gain Van Halen tones. Wow!!

  • Did you use any pedals or just straight into the amp ?

  • @adam10603 Straight into the amp, just as it says in the video description/details.

  • man i'm loving all the sounds of the amps, but do you guys make really high gain amps?

  • @bluetseel Yes, the Lead Overdrive 100 is high gain, as is the CG50 Custom.

  • How loud was this?

  • @zupperm Settings are shown at the 1:05 mark. MV was on 5, around my usual gig volume.

  • I purchased this model Granger about 6 months or so ago and I have to say it is THE BEST amp I have ever owned. I am 49 yrs. old and have owned a pile of amps - boutique to vintage. This amp is just right for me in terms of compression - it is solid and chunky when you need it but also gives it up on the sustain when you need it - all without ever sucking tone. Also, the master volume is the most usable master volume I've ever heard (I usually hate master volumes). I will NOT be selling this amp

  • @tgmnmd Thanks very much, glad you are enjoying the amp!

  • sound really great, it doesn't go crazy on the gain, like eddie

  • My goodness... THE TONE!!!!

  • sounds great, surprising how much gain is on tap with just a plexi circuit - how high are you running the PPI master?

  • I Will check it out, nice demo

  • hey i have a question, first off this is one of the best marshall tone amps i ever heard, i have heard many fargen, splawn, metro ect. either way this sounds kind of like a plexi meets jcm 8, am i way off base here. i feel it has a significant more amount of gain the a true plexi, its not a bad thing at all i even love it, its just an observation. what do you think?

  • @EMGlespaulMESA Thank you. That's a very good assessment. It will do early Plexi tones spot on, as well as tones with more gain than a stock Plexi, a la Van Halen, etc.

  • @TheM3ta1Mi1itia Just finished one! Will contact you via message. Thanks.

  • Excellent sound..do you make these with a half power option. I'd be great to have a 50 watt halfed to 25 watts. I'd get one immediately if you have that option.

  • @PinkyWontWork The amp uses a pair of EL34. Most companies who offer "half power" switches on amps that only use 2 power tubes are switching them from Pentode to Triode mode, which affects the tone as well as reduce output. This is not true half power, so yes I could add the switch, but I wouldn't call it half power. You could add VariWattage and scale the power to whatever you wanted however, or simply use the very effective Master Volume provided stock on the amp.

  • Wow really good sound How much it costs?

  • @zeppo20 $1499 + shipping, See our website for more details and ordering info.

  • I just got a M502 and let me tell you, it IS this good. This is what a really GOOD SOUNDING PLEXI sounds like. The extra master control is a simple yet extremely useful option. Has a cool 'deep' switch on the back if you happen to get into a 'volume unfriendly' environment. It allows you to add some low end without blowing peoples heads off. Although it sounds best turned up, it is still a very nice tone when at less than 'normal' plexi saturation levels. AWESOME!!! BUY ONE!!!!!!!!!

  • Killer tone !!!

  • this is kind of a dumb question about the PPIV mod (ive been hearing about it alot), does it allow you to crank the volume up to ten and the use a master volume? kinda like having a preamp volume almost?

  • @backseatdriver03 Yes, that's correct.

  • dude this thing is sick!

  • Do you build UK versions of these amps....Great sound BTW

  • @Guitarman55555 Yes, the stock model has a voltage selector switch for 120/220/240 operation. Thanks.

  • Could you do a demo with your own cabinets?

  • @radar10131 That is my cabinet (Granger). I just use WGS Veteran 30s and ET65s now, but then WGS makes Mojo's speakers for them.

  • I just picked up one of these M50's off ebay and all I can say is "I'M NOT SELLING MINE"! This video sounds awesome and the amp in person sounds even better. This is dead on the tone I've been looking for most of my life. (I've actually never been able to afford a vintage Marshall plexi.) Thank you for making these great amps!!! This amp rocks!!! I'm proud to have a Granger amp setting on top of my cab!

  • @tgmnmd Thank you very much for the kind words!

  • A W E S O M E tone

  • @RybM Feel Your Love Tonight off of their first album.

  • I've probably watched this clip 20 times in the last week and all I keep saying to myself is that is what a "REAL" tone should sound like. I am totally impressed and cannot wait to get my hands on one. What is the wait time for one of these amazing tone generators?

  • @777muzzy Thanks! Current wait time on the M50 Plexi is 6 weeks.

  • Curt - your superleads sound absolutely mind blowing. Rock on \m/

  • @vinta9e Thank you!

  • Fantastic! this is the closest one to the real thing (i think).. can you mod a marshall jtm 45 reissue to sound like this one?

  • @Andwipha Yes we can, and sorry for the delayed reply.

  • Is this is Superstar Rated R Edge?

  • @javyclubsoda Haha, I've been compared to him before.

  • I know its embarrassing

but it would be nice if any of you could tell me the name of the song after You really got me.

  • @RybM "Feel Your Love Tonight"

  • WOW! You are building Eddie in a Box. You've totally captured his original tone.

  • That's about as close as I've heard anyone come yet! Nice!

  • Holy crap this sounds awesome.... Get me two!

  • @DeathFromAbove1981 Thanks, we'll build you two!

  • Amazing tone! A little more NICE sag than a 1978's VH? Congratulations, Curt!

  • sounds killer, Curt. Been really interested in the m50 combo. Any chance we'll get a youtube demo of it soon?

  • killer sound!!!

  • I'm late to the party, but have to say, this amp sounds great! Thanks for building a high quality rig, you give me faith for new builders.

    Cheers!

  • Very sweet, crunchy, & just what all modern amps seem to lack, except Orange, let alone bloody modelling! Modelling should be left to airplanes & boats!!!

  • Wow.. That's an amazing sound! This I without doubt the closest I have heard to eddies vh1 sound! This amp has 90% ed's tone.. The other 10% is deffinately in his fingers and no one will ever capture that..

  • maaan sounds awesome!!!!!

  • man this is a totally newb question and off topic but what is the 2nd song you played in this demo???

  • @dwg116 "Feel Your Love Tonight"

  • That is amazing dude! Sounds just like early VH. All you need is that phase shifter!

  • @EuphorbusBTB Marshall made some GREAT amps... Korg not so good. ;-)

  • I think it's a good thing to make some sample with normal tuning engaged as well.

Half step low tuning makes the sound bigger.

    anyway, the amp sounds delicious.

  • @whoisthenext1 Did it half step since Eddie recorded most of his tracks the same way. Thanks for the compliment.

  • now thats some sweet sweet evh tone right there

  • Very cool Tone!

  • Nice tones.

  • You made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up.A reminder to us all how fab the sound eddie made.A fab repro job, now if only i could play eddies solos...

  • Sounds great! Can you put up a clip of the M502 Solo Plexi?

  • @mosquitodangeroso Hope to soon!

  • NICE Tone!!!!!

  • amazing!

  • Hi Curt, i'm playing your M 50 with my 1974 Gibson L6.....amazing AC/DC tone!!

  • hi i am wondering where you can buy these?? i hav looked around the web and cant find any for sale, if anyone knows where to buy them please tell me (i live in the UK)

  • @bailey32121 Granger Amplfication website. It's listed in the More Info section and in the clip.

  • Is it possable to order this amp with the four imputs infront and the master volume to be installed in the back

    Just curious

  • @EJG5150 Yes!

  • @RNRDOLL Yes, "Plexi" is a term that has come to be associated with tone, not so much the material used for the faceplate. Mine are plexi - acrylic, but I can also do metal for a small upcharge. Thanks!

  • I'm also wondering if you can do a mod to this head to get that kind of cranked awnch tone in this vid at low volumes? Like a master volume type mod etc.? I have so many loud amps and would love this tone @ a low volume. [Please let me know a.s.a.p. so I can start selling off gear to pay for one of these]. lol

  • @evh7775150 It has a master volume, and sounds very good at lower volumes.

  • OMG That is the classic brown sound nailed dead on! I love my PV 5150 combo and have way too many amps / axes. But this blew me away! It's sounds killer on my crappy PC speakers! BTW: What speakers are you using in the cab? And is that 4X12 under the cover? I want this head badly! (drool)

  • is this an exact copy of a 1987 circuit besides the PPIMV? sounds AWESOME btw.

  • @Acidrain1993 Very similar, but it's got a few differences - tone stack, etc. Thank you!

  • Forgive me. Curt. (For the misspell.)

  • @AceOfHeart2012 No problem! Happens a lot.

  • curt, could you make a video like this one of your 2204? i cant decide whether to get the m50, the superplexi or the 2204. what are the major differences between them? thanks. they all sound great.

  • @Turrettgear The 2204 vid is on the product page and on my channel.

  • Are the volumes jumped internally? I patch mine together and would give anything be able to control both volumes with one knob. Not interested in a master volume mod as such, just a way to combine the controls.

  • @AceOfHeart2012 No, they're not. That prevents blending the channels differently.

  • @grangeramp Kurt. Thanks for the reply. Just so I'm clear. You are NOT jumping the channels either internally or through the front panel? Just plugged straight into 1/1? The amp sounds killer. Way 'browner' than the Bray mods IMHO.

  • @AceOfHeart2012 That's correct. Thanks man!

  • Sounds just like my JCM 800. Nice.

  • Hey Ironsixx . . . a 100 watt amp may have 50 watts more power but it will not sound 50 watts louder. The difference in volume between the two is barely noticeable, maybe three decibels overall. For a 50 watt amp to sound twice as loud you would need a 500 watt amplifier. In other words, take the wattage of you amp and multiply by 10 to get the wattage required to sound twice as loud.

  • It nails his live tone circa 1981/82

  • Hey Curt.. Do you have to crank this amp to get this tone? i mean like can it sound the same at like 2?

  • @Ironsixx Close, but not really, but then no amp will sound the same on 2 as it does on 5, 6, or 10. Folks, I'll say it again, YOU'VE GOT TO GET THE SPEAKERS WORKING AS PART OF THE 'TONE EQUATION.' =)

  • damn close.. awesome amp.. !!

  • hey man you have a great amp there and awesome skills i wanna get the evh tone but i cant get it with a bugera v22 what amp should i get for under 700 bucks that can get me in this type of evh tone

  • how much to make my new randall rm100 sound like the plexi?

  • Curt, What are the differences between the M50 and G50 Firestorm?? In your opinion, what amp matches the early VH tone better?? Killer tone!!

  • so is this the same as the m100, only 50W less?

  • Similar, but not the same. Different filtering, a few different values in the preamp.

  • @grangeramp hey so if i bought an m100 could you rig it so it sounds the same as the m50? but just 50W louder?

  • Yes I can!

  • @grangeramp So do u just have this cranked to max to get the sound?

  • @theShowStopper321 No.. master was 5-6.. setting are in the clip.

  • i think i love you guys.... haha how much would one of these run? also could you guys mod my jcm to sound like this?

  • Base price is $1399 + shipping. Details and ordering info at website grangeramp [dot] com.

  • I had to comment again, I've got em all & that tone buddy is the JEM to them all ... No better Amp built. I'll be making a purchase soon & it will be hitting every stage on the EAST COAST !!!

  • oh my god it's a superb tone!!!granger=anger?ehheh5stars!

  • Much appreciated!

  • Killer tone!!!!!!!

  • That's a huge compliment, thank you!

  • yea eddie needs to quit grabbin for money and free amps and get real tone

  • I'd build one for Eddie if he'd use it. ;-)

  • THAT PLEXI SOUNDS TO GOOD TO BE TRUE

  • Much appreciated!

  • Incredible Job Curt, I do a "VH SHOW" & would love to have The GRANGER Name up on the stage with me. I have to get in touch with you. Simply Magic Dude !!!

  • very nice very nice how can i make a vintage tube amp sound siimilar?

  • Very nice! you send your amps in italy too?

  • Yes, I already have one there, with another scheduled to ship later this month.

  • @grangeramp is that all power tube distortion

  • No it's both preamp and power amp distortion. It's ALL from the amp.

  • @grangeramp so is this moded plexi with more gain

  • Dude, I didn't know you're located in Birmingham! Sam is fixing my Mesa right now. I need to get in touch with you... -Jay, YTWWV

  • wicked tone, man! Great Van Halen I sound. One of the best I've heard around 'net!

  • Thank you!

  • Very nice....sounds great. Nice work!

  • Thank you!

  • 1. No.

    2. 470pf on both

    3. 43k

  • can you get really bright with this amp like fender

  • It will get fairly bright, but not "ice-picky".

  • Hi Curt, what kind of pickup did you use on this record?...i'd like to know if it could be sounds similarly with SD '59 reissue or similar...i have a Dimarzio Evolution but i'm thinking about something else...

    Thanks

    Adriano

  • Stock pickup.. think it's a Burstbucker.

  • That sounds nice.
