I am a countryman... I track down and kill pest vermin with a team of Terriers.

They are killers when it comes to rats. They despatch a rat in seconds drop it and move on to find another. The fact is domestic cats have lost the instant killing instinct,

hence the saying, 'Like a cat playing with a mouse.' The reason the cat doesn't kill the rat straight away is because it's waiting for the leader of the pride (you the owner) to kill it. Notice your cat keeps looking round for support .
