  • I can't believe you twats are arguing whether this is a Beach Boy-esque song or a Chuck Berry-esque one.

  • THE U.S.S.R. DOESN'T EXIST ANYMORE, BUT GOOD SONG THOU.....

THERE IS A 'BEACH BOYS' REFERENCE, BUT PAUL SAID HE GOT THE SONG FROM CHUCK BERRY'S ''BACK IN THE U.S.A.''

  • Only the best band ever. Only amazing. The most fantastic singles and albums ever.

The Beatles' back catalogue is stunning. Simply stunning. Fantastic band. extraordinary music.

  • Man, The White Album is such a great album! Sometimes I forget how great it is.

  • Does anyone else think their listening to the beach boys from 1:07 to 1:21? Lol it sure sounds like it and thats probably where they got the idea from for that part of the song.

  • @samusic160 It is absolutely an intentional parody of the Beach Boys. In the late 60s there was a brief rivalry between the two groups. For example, allegedly Paul and John were taken aback by the release of Pet Sounds, which despite its mediocre commercial success, was a technical masterpiece. They felt they had to up their game. Not via this parody -- that was just some throwaway piffle.

Overall, the rivalry seemed to have the usual result of competition - a better product.

  • @voltamp Interesting, thanks for the information, i knew they must of got some influence from the Beach Boys however i didn't know they had a rivalry with them and i didn't know this was a parody. They had some pretty interesting rivalries with the rolling stones, the beach boys and more that i probably don't know about. It's true that you learn something everyday, it's just sometimes you don't realise it and it's especially nice when you learn something new about something you love like music.

  • @samusic160 @voltamp Actually, I didn't think that was the case... I heard from the mouth of Mike White at a Beach Boys concert last summer that the two groups were once in Rishikesh, India at the same time and the Beach Boys walked up on this guy with a guitar who said he had written a Beach-Boys-esque song and asked to play it for them... It was Back in the USSR and the guy was Paul.

  • some parts remind me a lot of the beach boys. Beach boys are like my second favorite band though.

  • Obama's favourite song. Comrade.

  • Let me hear your balalaikas ringing out..come and keep your comrade warm

  • @GodMowsMyLawn Really? I didn't know that.That's cool!

  • @GodMowsMyLawn Like that song L.A. Woman from The Doors

  • Paul Mccartney loved the Beach Boys. I can hear it in this song...

  • Is it just me, or does this have kind of an 80s AOR rock vibe? I grew up on The White Album and I love when they rock out like this.

  • 1 guy lost his passport

  • L'Union des republiques socialistes sovietiques...

  • I always think of the Beach Boys at 1:07

  • @ittems lol that's who the Beatles were trying to imitate at this part :)

  • @ittems one of paul's favourite bands.

  • @ittems That is because this song was a skit of a Beach boys song. Surfin USA I think.

  • One of my all time favorites! Thanks

  • its united soviet socialist republics i think lol that what i remember

  • I read somewhere that Brian Wilson said he didn't notice the Beach Boys reference until many years later.

I guess too much drugs will do that. lol!

  • ringo wasn't in this one :'(

  • @HezerFTW Yes. I think he left the sessions during this great track because of a bad joke from Paul.

  • I'm gonna buy a balalaika now.

  • IF IT'S ANYTHING LIKE THE CALIFORNIA GIRLS THAT BRIAN WILSON SAID, THEN you don't know how lucky you are, boys.

  • @madhoneydew that was a great song

  • I showed this to my friend, and he said, it sounds like the beginning of a Barney theme song.

I showed him Sympathy for the Devil, and he said it sounds like an African Tribe.

    I said to him,

    I feel sorry for you.

  • Golliwogg APPROVES of this song.

  • In Italy it's URSS, and I've fuckin tried for an hour to find why they have called the song in this way!!!!!!

  • @Journeyst

    Because they're not Italian.

  • @windydickbaker1 really?

  • @Journeyst

  • @Journeyst

It's Google. If you look up the term "USSR" in Google, you will find out instantly what it meant.

  • @anonUK I know that it's google, and what USSR means, buth thanks anyway. U've a lot of time to spend, don't you?

  • @Journeyst

Unino di Republiche Soviete Sozialiste, or something? Just trying to guess; terrible Italian attempt, I know. >.>

  • I love that song!!

  • John Lennon is playing a Fender VI bass Guitar in Back in the U.S.S.R.And also Jack Bruce of "Cream" Played one to! The Fender VI has a Great sound. I Think they are hard to come by.I would love to have one!

  • paul wrote this because he liked a song called back in the us so he made this song

  • @xfearXkingx

Surfing USA by the Beach Boys- and he was taking the mickey (and if he wasn't, John Lennon certainly did).

  • @xfearXkingx

  • paul did the drumming on this song. ringo got mad and left and they sent him flowers and he came back.

  • @diperrimax Paul did a lot of drumming on the White Album. Legend but a bit of a power freak maybe? He also did the drumming on Ballad of John and Yoko. They forgot about George on that one too.

  • @dabble778 In the "Ballad of John and Joko" they wanted to record and mix a single in just one day. I think that the only one available without notice was Paul.

  • @1GoodRiddance John couldn't play the drums. He could play lead, rhythm and bass guitars. I am sure if he could he would have slipped that through as The Beatles. J&P, much as I love their music, treated poor Ringo pretty shabbily. Going back to not insisting on Ringo playing on the Love Me Do single instead of Andy White, and John's comment that "Ringo was not even the best drummer in the Beatles". John was going his own way already after India, and after Brian's death. Still the greatest band

  • @dabble778 As far as I know it was George Martin than wanted Andy White to play on the Love Me Do. Plus I think that John was joking cause when he was asked "Is Ringo the best rock n roll drummer" he replied " No, he isn't even the best drummer in the Beatles". I just received it as a humorous remark, I can't really know though. There is also a Ringo song called Early 1970 where he comments on each of the other three. His commentary on John, in contrast with Paul, isn't harsh.

  • Aww, show me round your snow peaked mountains way down soooouuuuuttttthhhhhhhhhhhhh!

  • These guys were on a real roll with this number. Absolutely at their top. Fantastic stuff.

  • I saw a documentary about how the Russian youth idolized the Beatles even though it was illegal to own any rock album unless it was approved by the state. The kids came up with ways on making copies on x-ray film and all kinds of things. Commies are such assholes. Now they got thousands of Beatle tribute bands all over Russia.

  • Awesome guitar :D

  • I love The Beatles' Stereo

  • They wrote this as a response to the Beach Boys' California Girls, quite clever actually hah

  • For the first time, I felt Beach Boys' influence in this song. In fact, it may not get that influence.

  • In Soviet Russia, USSR backs you!

  • @wowwoawubbzy

How the hell did they know about Ukranian girls and Moscow girls before the internet and without even

    visiting the country???

  • @alaxyoung1 it's sort of impossible for a british man to doesnt know about the hottest girls on the continent.
