@holysh1tdubs i have fired both,the only things that the xm8 beat the scar at is accurasy,and reliability.but the FN SCAR has good enough/great accurasy and reliabiliaty.and its cheaper.so theres no point in having a better gun unless you need to.if the FN SCAR replaced the M4,then there would be no point in replacing the SCAR with the xm8.If its not broke,then dont fix it.

@IStartedroflcakes Well the Army does its only used the 75th Ranger Regiment.Im not to sure why.but the Army doesnt need the Scar L or Scar H because the troops arnt familiar with the way the gun looks or functions.The M416 is used by the army because its more reliable than the M4 and M16.Its easy to transition from the M4 to the M416.THe Scar L and Scar H doesnt resemble the m4 or M16 in any way so the troops dont use them.

the thing is that the army cancelled the xm8. However they did conduct the extreme desert test and then fired 60,000 rounds with these weapons (scar,hk416,xm8, standard m4) and all of them had more than 200 stoppages (m4 had 880). Only the xm8 had like 170 stoppages.

The XM8 used teflon instead of brass shells. which made the shells cheaper and lighter. Now that the US uses 62gr bullets and have 1/7 twist barrels, better mag designs the M4 has become a much more reliable gun. Personaly I rather have a scar vise the XM8. Anyways, the XM8 was dropped because they felt it was cheaper to just upgrade what they already have, which is what the Military always does.

There were no problems with over heating, over fouling, parts of it never melted, and had several hundred fewer james the the M4 after 60'000rnd's . There's what they said then there's the trueth . The M4 system is cheaper . They didn't want to spen the money for a newer better weapon for our troop's . It's well worth the price !!! Our boy's have new flackjackets, helmet's, boot's, and uniform's and gear . why don't they have a better up to date weapon ? The Marine Corps loved it .

The M16, M4 have seen us through alot to say the least . But by today's standards it's an old weapon that's being out run by the rest of the world . It's our longest used service rifle, it's time for a change. Out of all of them the Army tested the XM8 preformed the best out of them . It's a US built weapon, soldier friendly, and tough .

They spent more than 30 million to build the XM8 family and then dumped it .

For the love of god they are the same gun the HK-416 is just the Heckler&Koch 416. they are the manufactures of the gun. In BFBC its called the m416 because its in the future and the U.S. military accepted it as the standard assault rifle thereby giving it the M in front.

tier 3: US Army Rangers

tier 2: Army Special Forces (force multipliers) and the Navy Seals (pretty much fuck shit up behind enemy lines)

tier 1: Army Delta Force (official names SFOD-D and Combat applications group) and the Navy DEVGRU (Developmental Group)

@11251309 exactly, it overheats, deeming it less reliable than the 416, its system is to take the gasses from the exploding bullet and move it away from the main internals, such as the bolt. xm8 doesnt have a productive ventilation system, which in the long run probably fucks up the internals badly.

Look up XM8 on Wikipedia. The whole project has been cancelled due to problems with the gun such as overheating and low battery life for the built in electronic aiming system. However, I don't beleive that the germans will stop on the project completely and will find ways to fix the major problems.

Search in Youtube "Future Weapons HK416. In the Video of the HK416 is shown that this weapon has no heat problems. The Guys in the video took out the weapons bolt after shooting - it wasnt hot ;)

Come on, that the XM8 has heat problems is incredible, because the HK416 has no heat problems and that guns are both from the same company.

When the XM8 really had heat problems, the company would change it. The company has the know-how how to make the weapon better and has shown a proof: The HK416 (okay its not directly a proof but both guns are from same company :P :P :P :P :P)

No they didnt. They cancel XM8 because it was to expensive. FN Scar and HK-416 is much cheaper. H&K are still developing XM8. But its really stupid anyway to replace the old M4, modify the spring and it work well, pretty close to FN Scar and HK-416.

Well, everything cost money and sometimes it costs a lot. But to buy a good infantry weapon to ground soldiers is much cheaper then building another nuclear sub. Norway has bought HK-416 for their troops and Sweden will look at FN-Scar soon. In Scandinavia their weapons need to stand shitty weather, cold and snow so they buy "Stable" weapons. Finland has a AK copy and Sweden has used AK5 for a long time now. Norway used AK4 for a long time before they bought the HK-416. But I agree with you!

It's always a combination of both, you feel more comfortable with a weapon your used to. In combat you want a weapon that is reliable, that functions in all types of environments. For me being a M-4 veteran, the HK 416 would seem like the logical choice out of the three because it's very similar to the M-4 and from what I have seen it should be even more reliable.

He isn't making different sie for m 4 or m 16 with appearance with the letter zed soldiers not fly's to change habits. 5.56 accurate he isn't bringing down with one shot but there are 30 cartridges up to it in the storage room. comfortable eliminated wany m 4 and m 16 are perfect... scar and xm 8 is toys on the battlefield will prove false. for hk 416 recognizing the mum is eating the Polish Army already in our army.

It's funny how 99% of you are probably civilians and have never and will never touch these weapons, then of the 1% that is actually military .001% understand that when it comes to combat it's your INSTINCTS that keep you alive. Only snipers NEED to be picky about their weapon systems. Everyone else just needs to focus on their own personal skills in combat because no weapon, no matter how great, can afford you those. I could clear a house with a M1903 better than some POG with a H-SCAR any day.

the XM8 could not be used due to its tendancy when overheated to make the plastic either melt or become to hot to handle, it can not handle the extreame heat of deserts and jungles.
