  • He tried to keep going but he couldn't his boat would go under water a little bit if you look closely

  • I give these guys mad props for doing this. Balls of steel, no doubt.

  • IN THE SECOND CRASH HE SHOULD HAVE KEPT GOING

  • Lucky driver at 0:57

  • They shut the race down two years ago, the race was held at Evansville IN. But there still racing in Madisonville KY I think.

  • @nlangen I believe you're talking about Madison Indiana, not Madisonville Ky. If you've never been there is a beautiful old town, it feels like 1930 there. I hate to admit I've never caught a boat race there, don't know why I guess I'm not into boats. If they still had the airplane v-12s they'd intest me more.

  • Hey man what part of the Ohio do they run by?Near Cinci??

  • Pastrana?

  • @joerufino77 PS, it's "plane", as in "airplane" (see, they work the same, FYI). A "plain" is a flat area, or something really un-interesting.

  • @joerufino77 I don't know shit about hydroplane racing...I'd like to find out more, and one good way to do that is to watch videos on YouTube. You think this is some exclusive club for people who have been into boat racing since they were kids? Or am I required to learn everything there is about it first, so I don't come and offend you by asking dumb questions because I'd like to know more about it? Fuckwad.

  • fookin skilige lol thats going on utube that right there wen he could be hurt lol great vid

  • OVER 9000 POINTS OF AWESOME!!!

  • that was freaking awesome!!!! I have been going to the Hydro races since the early '80's and I have never scene that before! holy crap awesome awesome video! thank you for sharing ;)

  • "i got it all on my tape guys" ... why is that everyones proudest moment.....instead of i hope he is ok

  • Dude, he has balls!

  • MAD , flips keeps going then sinks LOL

  • thats so lucky,

  • never seen anything like that

  • I want 2 try that

  • @SuperEminemjr Try hydroplane racing..............its a blast! I've been racing since 1987

  • I don't see the "keep going" part... pretty sure the crash ends his day.

  • was that supposed to happen?

  • no. it happens wen the boat hits a swell and the front lifts out of the water. they're so light that they can practically fly through the air.

  • hahahahahahahahah... ur just a beam of genius arent you !

  • Comment removed

  • HUGE save!

    Just awesome.

  • You should rename this "Boat Flips, Lands and KEEPS GOING!" Something to classify its Level of Bad Ass...

  • Thanks Ill give it a try

  • And the badass of the year award goes to....

  • At 0:56, that was sweet!!! The boat flips, lands upright and he keeps on going.

  • 0:56 nice back flip :) lovly landing to !

    5/5 :P

  • it didnt realy survive after he landed after the flip and got turned around u can see him sinking realy badly....still just fuckin awesome

  • The boat's fiberglass was damaged at the back but he returned to the pits. The team removed the damage parts and they returned to race later that morning.

  • 2009 Thunder on the Ohio will not be the same without the large Unlimited Hydroplane racing boats. I think it is a big mistake to change the race from the unlimited to a lesser class of boat race.

  • nice flip lol

  • see I move out of Evansville and what happens I miss spectacular Hydroplane flips

  • i got it all on tape thats you tube right there wow

  • Yes, damned shame what's happening to the Unlimiteds. :( I remember back in the 60s 70s and 80s I could watch a race every month in the summer on Wide World of Sports. Somebody needs to step up and get the marketing going again like it used to be.

  • I don't think its marketing...I think its a lack of noise, actual 'racing' and also a lack of boats realistically capable of winning.

  • wow...nice clip Nick. Glad you told me about it!

  • 1:03 wow!!!

  • ive never ever seen it do a flip and survive

give the guy a freaking medal!

  • On the 1st part you can hear a guy say, "That's Youtube right there."

  • holy shit that is one good driver who managed not to loss his nerve and keep going

  • I know Jean Théoret....

  • LOL...I built all his GP boats at Auld Hydroplanes in Brockville

  • I like the second one better because it didn't end in disaster-and came off as almost a reallllllly neat trick

  • Nice video. Kudos to Jean Theoret for keeping his boat off the shore.

  • luckliy those boats have ejection pods in the case of a crash

  • They don't have ejection pods, moron.

    Drag boats have capsules.

    Hydroplanes have escape hatches.

  • Does the boat in the 2nd crash eventually sink ?

    Because it looks like it..

    Nice video by the way

  • Jean Theoret was the driver in the 360 flip in Heat 2B. The boat was brought to the pits and repaired. The wing of the boat suffered fiberglass damage so they removed the fiberglass to race in another heat. IT was amazing. There were 3 wrecks in the first 3 heats. I couldnt get the third wreck on video due to it being behind a roostertail.

  • @Assen155 its not sinking, hydropplanes do tht when theyre going very slow

  • I think i saw Miss Beacon Plumbing

and J Micheal Kelly... i forgot his boats name.

and i know i saw the Oh Boy! Oberto

  • "High speed boat crashes ON WATER"

Do you have any NOT on water???

  • The unlimited hydroplane circuit keep a safe distance from shore. But there are other race circuits that feature crashes on utube. One to look at is the video from Alverca96 called boat crash into people.

  • @nlangen you really know alot about this stuff, dont you?

  • that second one was insane!

  • Ive been going to Thunder since the early 80s and it used to be a big Party. Now its definitely noticeable the lack of interest from the younger people. I hope that the people who sponsor the race realize that the air show is not the only way to entertain between races. Bring in some other water events.

  • the rumor here in Evansville is that if we don't land a huge event for the air show Thunder will die. I remember about 15 years ago when there was 75,000 people here for Thunder. Now if we get 30,000 we're lucky.

  • This was my first year at Madison. I hope to make Evansville next year as well as the Regatta. Great video!!

  • In 35 freaking years of watching the Madison Regatta (and some years at Thunder) I have NEVER seen one of the flips. Always wrong place, wrong time! Thanks for the clip.

  • Thanks for the footage. Too bad the Unlimiteds are a dying breed - mostly due to the completely brainless workings of the ABRA - the current governing body, who cant seem to get ANY video available on their site...

Hope you attend all the races!

  • Yeah, dying breed... That's why there were 14 teams at Seafair this weekend, more than I've seen at a race in the last 21 years. Goodjob talking out your ass guy.

  • Nice comment. You show your young age with immature comments like that. Fact is there are lots of boats - nowhere to race...6 stops on the tour??? That's not much of a series. I see you're watching at home too...

  • The ABRA does no marketing. they've lost ALL national TV coverage, lost the support of the print media, have a piss-poor website, are unable to make video clips available to AP (guaranteeing that nothing from race day will appear on the news), and in turn lost support from potential sponsors in various cities across the country. Fred Farley and I had a brief discussion the other day and he agreed with me that the boats are on their death bed - killed by an utter lack of marketing and interest.

  • i was listening to the race when that happend

  • Gaard Swanson, Sports director at KIRO told me that he'd be happy to cover the other races but he cannot get any video feeds. Whose fault is that? The ABRA...

But hey...Nate Brown building the Red Dot in his Preston home shop with a dozen volunteers is one of the few great things that have happened this year and shows that the concept of the 'backyard' boat builers is not completely dead.

  • I've invested 45 years of my life into following the boats and have been trying to get the people involved to see that they need to make changes. What have you done Mr. 'talking out your ass guy'?

  • I hope for the best re: the future of Unlimited Hydroplane racing. It has always been an exciting sport participated in by the bravest of men as pilots. The haven't been to the god-forsaken Arizona desert for years though. We've got a large lake (not Firebird)and plenty of racefans if the ABRA is listening. IMO from previous experience, HVAC25000 is a second-class douchebag.

  • that's some really good footage of the flips.
