all the boys in "da Bronx" used to hang out on the street corners and do our little best to make harmonies like Dion and the Belmonts. *sigh* where did it all go ? (if you know the White Castle across from Fordham University you KNOW "Where" and "When") charles ranalli albuquerque
It doesn't get much better than this! A time of innocence, a time of first love, it's the memories that made us what we are today. Thanks for making my "heart sing". Just wonderful. Warmed me straight to my heart.
iT SEEMS TO ME THAT THIS IS ONE LOVE SONG i NEVER GOT TO LISTEN TO UNTIL IT WAS POSTED ON yOUTUBE. It isn't my no means my tuype of a love song, by the way I know Dion & the Belmots best for their "Teenager in Love". Thx4 Postin'
Those three songs you name by Price are surely the best, they're my favorites too! But in a professional singer's career, you are entitled to expect more. So I dropped him, but on the other hand, I keep on with Brook Benton.
Hi, Nocaro, today I started Dion (with or without the Belmonts), but I completely abandonned Lloyd Price. Not only his songs are difficult to find, but I find that with the exception of his hit singles, there's nothing else outstanding in his career! What do you think?
@ENACODNOM LLoyd had 3 songs I liked a lot: "Stagger Lee", "I'm Gonna Get Married", and "Personality" and a few others I liked just so-so like "Lawdy Miss Clawdy" although that was a big hit for him. I've posted quite a few of Dion's hits but YouTube will not allow the original version of "Runaround Sue". My posting of "Where of When" gets a lot of views.
@ENACODNOM By the way, if you are on Facebook, Dion is one of the most active musical celebrities on Facebook. He posts almost every day with interesting comments on his career and the songs he recorded (although sometimes he tries to come off like a "wise sage"). Likewise, Bobby Rydell, Lenny Welch, Maurice Williams, and Aaron Neville also post quite a bit.
TenStarsplus!!!! OMG, the more I listen to this, the more I want to listen to this song!!! Does anyone know who the babe with the ribbon necklace is??? SHE IS SO HOT THAT SHE SMOKES !!!!!!!!
Dion & The Belmonts took this 1940's slow dance classic and with their close Harmony and a great arrangement turned it again into a hit record. A difficult thing to do in an era where fast tempo Rock&Roll was more popular. The fact that you could slow dance with that special person to a romantic ballad also contributed to this songs success. We used to think the world was so advanced and sophisticated in the 60's with cars that flew at warp speed, computers with brains that took up an entire room, transister radios and gadgets on Startrek we only dreamed of having...who would have guessed only 50 years later we'd be so far beyond that - or are we? Sometimes I'm not sure, but still, what a fasinating time to be alive
OMG!! I just can't get enough of this song!!!!! Does anyone know if that is the late Billy Vaughn playing the tenor sax??!!!!! Does anyone but me think that Dion looks a lot like the late great Dino Crocchetti aka Dean Martin??!!!!! Tenstarsplus for this song and the beautiful fantabulous collage of Dion and The Belmonts!!!! Thank you for posting this memory from when I was 17 years old!!!! KUDOS !!!!!!
Tenstarsplus !!!!! Dion is the Greatest!!!! What he has done with is almost unbelievable!!!! He still is performing, and he goes to prisons, and rehab centers to counsel, and help recovering drug addicts!!! He is 4 years and 1 day older than me!!!! Every time I hear this song this big tough ol' guy gets tears in his eyes!!!! I love that man, because I had problems when I was younger too!!!! HE'S THE MAN !!!!! Thank you for posting this fantabulous song, my fave by him!!!!!!
This was one of the best make-out songs of the 50s-60s. Just you and your girl in the car (they were muscle cars then, not the pregnant roller skates they build now) parked in a secluded spot with the radio turned low. Man it sure was good then! I came back to the world and everything had changed.
The first version of a song one hears sometimes stays with one even after one hears more sophisticated arrangements. Although I have loved many Rogers and Hart songs besides "Where or When," this reached me first. At the time I was hoping for more numbers along the lines of "I Wonder Why," No One Knows," and "A Teenager in Love." This lovely, melancholy, carefully constructed ballad helped me grow in appreciation, and I have always loved it both for itself and for that.
Takes me back .... what a great song.... Miss you Jane

I especially like the tenor sax in this tune and Dion's twenty five second or so vocals by himself without the Belmonts.

One of the best songs from 1960. Definitely Dion and the Belmonts best.
I was a member of the Laura Lamar High School class of 1964. Laura Lamar High School was located in Homer City, PA.

I'm happy to have the chance to listen to this good old days hit, which I've never heard before.
I've just read the book "Where or When" (Anita Shreve) yesterday and wanted to listen to this tune.
Thank you for posting it. I'm really appreciated it.
I moved a lot, since I've read the romance and as I listen to, sweet and sad feeling back again....

Very unique song, the sense of deja vu it strikes within, along with the tune and harmony, is almost haunting. Thanks for posting.
