  • Vinegar Joe were very underrated in the seventies. Elkie fitted in well with the band. This is my favourite track of all the tracks they made. Great lyrics and superb bass playing. I think that they worked better as a band than when they done solo projects, as is the case with so many great musicians. Thank god for the seventies - rock from the gods.

  • Great song from a great album. Thanks Elkie!!

  • I also agree with Elkie being unerrated during her Vinegar Joe years as well as later - a magnificent voice - even nowadays. This song has always moved me - ever since I first heard it - and always remembered.

  • Been a lonnnnnnnnnng time since I heard this song; ty for posting it!

  • Epic song. Too bad there isn't a live preformance of this song on youtube. :(

  • I echo the sentiments of the commentators with this fine song by Vinegar Joe. I heard Robert Palmer say he was not entirely satisfied with his role in a group format. Why he went on to record with Duran Duran and UB40 then must be puzzling. He is a great talented and sadly missed. Thank goodness we still have Elkie with us.

  • I guess his work with The Power Station and UB40 were rather different, as he had an established career and was with them as a 'big-name' guest artist...

  • Elk is one of the truly great female vocalists.

  • And highly underrated, especially in her Vinegar Joe days...

  • Totally agree. Elkie is GREAT

  • Ah!

The 'un-jumping' version is on the compelation album "Speed Queen of Ventura: An Introduction to Vinegar Joe"

  • Thanks for sharing, this was great, I just love her voice.

  • Excellent posting. I have loved Elkie since I first set eyes on her. I have this album (Six Star Generals) and I thank you for giving others the oportunity to hear this talented but poorly recognised supergroup.

  • Thanks for posting this lovely song, brought back so many happy memories...

I use to have the LP with french fries on the cover, there was this wonderful song on and I forgot the name, but the lyrics still linger in my head:

Early, early one morning, when I got news from you, the letter said babe be soon

so I left by thuesdaynoon, I was comming home to you.... Couldnot find it anywhere here on You TUbe, do you happen to know the titel of this song??? would make me a happy dutch lady..

  • The song you want is "Early Monday Morning" from their first, self-titled album {it was re-released on CD a few months ago}.

I'll see if I can add it...

  • Thank you :)

I thought it was time this amazing classic was on here for everyone to enjoy as much as I do.

  • I really like this...I thought I had heard Vinegar Joe before, but not this..WOWZER!!

Her voice gives me chills at times...Excellent post!!
