Juliet, I really think that your version is pretty cool. Your voice is amazing and very rare... But to make it better I suggest your guitar player to learn the chords of the song and search a must bright sound to fit your voice. Maybe an accoustic guitar can do it much better and use power chords intercalating with a few dissonant chords resolve this problem. A more consistent beat can also get interesting...

It was awesome how you put your own stamp onto the song, rather than being dramatic like how it is in the original, so I wouldn't be too bothered about people saying "there's not any feeling in it" because it was totally different to how Lea sang it on the show =)

Speaking from the point of a vocal coach , you're not supporting your voice with your diaphragm , you're keeping it very much in the back of your throat which both limits your face and will cause damage if you sing long term like this. Singers tend to do this when they think too much about their voice , I have a lot of my students play with a bouncy ball when they sing , it stops them focusing so much on their voice and relaxes the muscle's , try it , it'll help.
