what a great day this was, getting up very early, 2nd in the line for tickets, only 13 yrs old, with my 2 best mates, full of punks, skinheads, mods, rockers & hippies, one huge fight with beer cans, skins realising they were on the wrong side for sham 69,& trashing the filming area, stoned hippies, john peel dj'ing, the john peels a cxxt banner, it was all going on, the booze, the dope, the noise, the atmosphere, topped off with THE JAM, growing up doesn't get much better than that. top day.
Fantastic! Saw them 3 times and consider myself lucky to have had that priveledge. Their raw energy is brilliantly captured in this footage. Thanks for posting x
I was there and it was clear Weller was unhappy, but I suspect I wasn't the only kid there who was thrilled to see a mod styled guitarist brutalize his Rickenbacker what ever the cause.. The whole afternoon/evening is a fond memory.
My dad was here and he told me about how they trashed the place to get from one stage to the other to see the jam

I saw "From the Jam" play at Reading earlier this month. Foxton recalled that 1978 was the last time he was in Reading and had fond memories.

The Jam live. If only that energy had been properly harnessed, the world's energy needs would have been met for decades.
Exceptional posting. Thanks for making this available.
