dasalotta hoppers, lol. Must not have been full if only 2 Diesel-electrics were pulling that many. Love your work owensri2, bringing back memories of the old Grand Trunk Western (now CN) line that ran through Ferndale and that area. God I miss it.
You know, if I was a cop, I'd wait 2 or 3 blocks past a crossing after a long train went by, because the first car that is allowed to cross you KNOW is gonna be speeding, because he's all pissed off from waiting 5 minutes for the freight to pass. I'd ticket them every time.
We used to call this polliwog town. Birds, crayfish, cattails, etc.. Then they filled in the ponds between the tracks (sigh). Used to be a junkyard where you were standing at the start. We sold newspaper to them.
Probably about a quater of a mile, but depends on how fast the train is going. There's a box in the relay case that tells how fast the train is going, and it decides when the time is right to activate the crossing. There's always about at 25 to 35 second warning. FRA (Federal Railroad Administration) requirements are for there to be a minimum 20 second warning.
Yep, I hate when they get like that. If you look at my video entitled "Goddard Rd. Crossing, West Side, Wyandotte, Mi 3/9/08, you'll see that crossing does it as well, and it's alot worse than this one.
Doesn't one of the sides at the Vinewood Ave. crossing even do it? I knew the street name after watching your videos and then looking on Google Street View.
No, that's where they are putting new signals in. The 4 middle ones will be replaced within the next few weeks by Conrail. The ones you see now will be history. I'm going to try and get a few of the GRS plastic lights that are up there now.

Have you ever been at this crossing when more than one train has gone through? Like 2 at the same time.

I was thinking the same thing, that has to be interesting.

Notice on the Gated Signal that the lights are out of sync.

@owensri2 You should try Woodward Ave. in Pontiac. its completely out of sync but they are on the same relay box.

So, are they also replacing the cantalevers? I just wondering because this crossing is really cool.
Bellwestern80 3 years ago
Yeah, there are a few other crossings like this one too. Pennsylvania is one of them.
