  • I cried and left my comforting PC for the night.

  • show down like flies by Luftwaffe lol

  • My father was the sole survivor of a crew of 10 on a B-17 shot down over Germany. Earlier in the war, he was at Hickam Field in Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7th, 1941 & was in the 1st bomber to take off in the war before Roosevelt even declared war. They flew out in the direction the Japanese were seen to leave, then flew a huge search grid to try to spot & sink the Japanese aircraft carriers by "skip-bombing" from low altitude. They could return to England on only 1 engine if it was an inboard one.

  • It might have been performing a "shot up" but the screws were still turning hard on #1 and #2. No feathering, nothing. Kinda uneventful, really.

  • @bloodngutspatriot b-17s were becoming outdated rather quickly due to the coming of the first pressurized bomber, the B-29 Superfortress.

  • did they actually have such large amounts of smoke?

  • jpstrikesback: Churchil took advantage because probably he couldn't believe in hitler as you said. (There is no knolowdge about why did he took his decision). Unfortunately civilians has being supporting military aggression since the history of war. That's why fortified cities were constructed.

  • Build for killing civilians.

  • @DerMessermann Build to fight fire with fire

  • @DerMessermann. Sorry to correct but actually I think the Lancaster etc was used for killing civillians (area bombing) as was the Heinkel during the 'Blitz' on the UK. On the other hand the Americans generally went for industrial targets.

  • @DerMessermann Well this isn't a common comment at all "They killed civilians" Of course they did.. When you want to protect a factory, build it near a civilian location. Then when it gets bombed you have the added shit of having to kill civilians to do it. 1944 precision bombing was anything but. However it was the best they could do with the tech available at the time. So your wrong in saying it was built to kill them. It was built to drop bombs.

  • @DerMessermann oh yea because the americans were the only ones in world war 2 to kill civilians

  • @able506 And between July 1936 to March 1939 there was the Condor Legion led by Hugo Sperrle; does the name Guernica mean anything? Same commander that led the "Luftflotte 3" in the Battle of Britain. Göring had the Luftwaffe bombing British cities into Autumn of 1941, long before the first B-17s showed up in Prestwick, Scotland in 1942.

  • @19XWyomingGrizFan i was being sarcastic people on youtube have a warped version of history were the nazis and imperialist japan are the goods guys who were being picked on by the allies

  • @DerMessermann Actually, B17s were made with the norden bombsight for precision bombing (understanding that is relative to technology in the 40s). Also, its important to note that the USAF bombed during the day when they could actually see the target. Yes, civillians died, but nothing like Hitler's terror bombing of the UK and the UK retaliation fire bombings. Both countries dropped bombs blindly at night, with civilians being the target, not factories.

  • @DerMessermann and the He-111 wasn't?

  • @gfimadcat

The He-111 was designed to be used as an airliner...obviously.

  • @DerMessermann No it wasn't. In fact thats why the US did day light bombing to limit civilian dealths. It was not until GERMANY was firing v1 and v2 randomly at london that this changed. The Brits on the other had did night bombing for mass effect. Seriously 11 million civilians died in German camps BUILT TO KILL CIVILIANS. You got balls I must say.

  • @DerMessermann actually, they were originally built for coastal defense, and later modified to carry more bombs for "accurate" bombing.

  • @DerMessermann

Built for destroying military targets. The American's did day time bombing to try to be more accurate and reduce civilian casualties, and paid the cost for that humanity with the blood of their air crews, 10 men lost to every plane destroyed. With expected casualty rates as high as 25% and more. Now if you want to talk about the B-29 fire bombing missions that killed more Japanese civilians then both the atomic bombs, then that's a different story...

  • @Slowmotion1225 you should read up on dresden we bombed that city with incindearices knowing many would burn/starve to death...kill civies has an adverse effect on the enemys morale...we intentionally bombed the civilian districts as well as the militray complexes toward the end of the war..

  • @Slowmotion1225 Make sure you bring up the millions of civilian casualties inflicted by German and Japanese extermination programs, as well. Ask the Filipino's and many other people in the south Pacific and China about that. There are horrors enough to go around. The magnesium bomb runs over Japan were designed to burn factories to the ground. Due to the Japanese practice of building in essence, paper houses, those fires rapidly spread to entire cities and towns in some cases.

  • @DerMessermann You mean like the Krauts? Who did round the clock saturation bombing on entire cities. The allies did tactical bombing of military bases, bridges, rail lines, factories and V-1 and V-2 bases in daylight. Were the civilian casualties, of course. On a scale with those inflicted by the Germans and Japs, Hardly. German and Jap pilots were notorious for shooting defenseless pilots and crew who bailed out, as well.

  • The only plane i like is B-17 idk why nah jk i know cause its EPIC

  • What´s the diffrent between a "shoot up" and a "shoot down"?

My English is not the best.

  • @Hickmaann90 - When they say that a plane is "shot up", they usually mean it has been damaged by bullets or flak, but it is still flying. When they say that a plane is "shot down", they mean that it has crashed into the ground AFTER being damaged by bullets or flack. A "shot down" plane is destroyed. A "shot up" plane is either still flying...or it may be a wreck that is on the ground...in which case it is both "shot up" AND "shot down".

  • @Morgteck

    All right. Thanks a lot.

    That helped.

  • What was that smoke coming from the left wing engines?

  • @lukum55 It's a smoke screen, But they are trying to resemble engine smoke from an internal fire.

  • If you want to shed a tear reading a story about humanity during the air war over Europe, search: "Franz Stigler and Charlie Brown."

  • @pegrathwol thank you for this link

  • Beautiful! :O

  • Still a beautiful bomber. Love the way the look and sound in flight.

  • there's a photo on the web of one B-17 that had flak88 projectile detonate inside the fuselage, just aft of the wings.... and the plane made it back to England. Needless to say, the plane never flew again but the crew DID get home!

  • @captmatt47

I saw a photo on flickr of a B17 with a massive hole in its side (between the mid gunner and the tail) when a ME109 had collided with it.

    It got back too.

  • @capetown99 Wow! That was a tough plane

  • @spagetti001 Ok so do u want to hear an awfull story from my Grand dad when he faced a b17 doing a belly landing and by the time they hit ground it started to burn and it blew up. You really think thats nice wacthing the crew dieing and being burned. Why dont you see what it felt like being one of those 12 crew of one of em bombers hey?

  • @skullz56fly 10 crew. and yes its hell...and nothing to be proud of, but to see one of the big four engined sons of bitches flying after 70 years and knowing my grandfather helped keep them in the air does pull at the heartstrings

  • ahh it would be so nice to see a bf109 erasing that fucker from the sky :D

  • @spagetti001 what the hell?????? why is that nice thats a sixty seventy year old conflict??

  • @gamereview123ful well i also like the roman legions fighting barbarians and thats a two thousand year old conflict. wtf.

  • @spagetti001 me to except theres twelve left in the world of these planes...and you want to see people be slaughtered to death a crashing and on fire. thats disgusting, your a sick bastard

  • its the sally b. im glad the UK keeps the legend of the b17 alive in England. a b17 over the UK is so fitting. the united states and britian owe each other for the group effort that brought hitler down

  • I would feel sorry for the pilot's and operators of this thing if this was WWII

  • a bomber can still fly with the engines leaking, just depends on how much fuel it has. In this case, a B-17 holds a crapload. Bombers can also fly with some of the engines destroyed or completely absent. They just have to jettison the bombload to reduce weight. Im also pretty sure they can jettison the hydraulic ventral turret, (aka the B-17's left nut)

  • should have shut fuel off to both "burning" engines and feathered the blades for dramatic effect :)

  • I Like Popcorn

  • @buidseach that don't deserves thumbs up

  • @ChewyChubbs97 i dont care, i still love it

  • @buidseach hmm fair enough

  • portuguese spoken in the back

  • @boboelmo

    I like Turtles.

  • OK, so the airplane flys by with all four engines running, trailing smoke from two of them. How is this :Shot Up?

  • @BillWa it visually simulates the smoke coming from a shot up engine, and yes WWII plane engines can fly when shot up.

  • now imagine about 100 of those flying over you dropping their payload. thats wwII

  • @SoCalyankeefan and dont forget 200+ aircraft from both sides or even all sides in the sky and enemy AAA flack all over the place and falling bomber pieces and flames and ...basicly.hell in the sky...

  • @SoCalyankeefan In late 1944 think 1000

  • Great WW2 footage!! Wonder why they had all those obsolete aircraft on the ground though...strange!!

  • THe Memphis Belle Movie was a Hollywood story, that never really hapened and I'm surprised that they let it air. I've been abord the REAL Memphis Belle which is now at Wright Patterson AFB in Dayton Ohio being properly restored, and I for one hope to see her fly again

  • My fave IIWW bomber. Watch the Memphis Belle movie. Brilliant.

  • is that the memhis belle?

  • @shinusuke13 I think it is 'Sally B' , which was the plane used in the movie Memphis belle =)

  • @Soma874

yup it was the sally B they just made some modifications to it to really look like the old one

  • nice

  • Thank you for the great video, the sound of the Flying Fortess is fantastic!

    warbirds-power.de

  • I fail to appreciate the point in simulating damaged aircraft.

Why not throw out a few fake "casualties" too !!

The aircraft is impressive enough just by itself without any mindless "embellishments".

  • @yiblon get over you're self

  • 36 cylinders roaring in harmony, awesome sound, awesome machine !!

  • B-17 Flying Fuckers are sucking ...

    Schweinfurt.

    87/81!

  • @Afrikarma8781

you played to many games to apriciate the glory of the B-17

  • Is there a prettier anything than a B-17?? She will be 75 years old this month and she is still stunninng. Definitely not the best four engine bomber, but definitely the most beautiful.

  • @AirVirginia Making it home or just staying intact long enough for crews to bail out despite massive flak damage makes the b-17 the prettiest as well as the best 4 engine bomber of ww2. 291,508 sorties

  • @over9000christian Your Hell would be my Heaven. My Heaven would be your Hell. I'm going to be jamming with Hendrix, Lennon and Bob Marley. Aboard a Magic Catalina with Hanna Reitsch at the helm, Ken Kesey navigating and Bill Hicks making the cocktails. We're flying south to pick up Frank Zappa and Sitting Bull. You'll be with 9000 TV evangelists and the Osmonds. Ha!

  • The Germans began a deliberate campaign of strafing and bombing civilians ahead of their army's advancing through Belgium and France. Although not Strategic Heavy bombing it was done specifically to use the terrorized refugees to block the British and French forces from maneuvering and putting together an organized defense.

  • During the invasion of Holland, 57 He-111's of KG 54 dropped 97 tons of high- explosives, gutting the city of Old Rotterdam.

  • September 25, 1939, the Luftwaffe began a bombing campaign on Warsaw the Polish capital using 400 bombers, dive-bombers and ground attack aircraft in round the clock bombing raids, large areas of the city were reduced to blazing ruins.

  • On April 25, 1937, German aircraft of the Condor Legion strafed and then bombed the city of Guernica, killing about 1,600 of the population of 10,000. I don't have a record of the injured, but it could well be double the number of dead, say 3,200. So you are talking about almost 50% casualties.

  • Just for the record Germany began strategic bombing of British Cities Sept 8, 1915 using Zeppelins and with conventional bombers Nov. 28, 1916. The bomber program was continual and ongoing, the zeppelins only being withdrawn when the bombers became available. All in all there were 51 airship and 52 airplane bomber raids in WW1. A total of 9,000 bombs were dropped killing 1,413 and wounding 3,408 people mostly civilians.

  • Awsome clip!

  • B-17 FTW

  • i was ther but i did see that i was 9 or 8 not rember but i was ther why i did not see it

  • ... super capture ... fantastic video .... Thank you ...

  • got to ride in a b 29 once, it was awesome!

  • Oooh, listen to those engines! :D

  • I like airplanes!

  • @boboelmo nice and i like turtles

  • @boboelmo I do too!

  • The first bombing over berlin was done on June 7th 1940 by a french Farman 223.4 who dropped its 2200 lbs load . On august 15th 1940 Goering launched the "Eagles day" against strategic targets. On august 24 the London dock was bombed by mistake. Although germany apologizes, Churchill took advantage and ordered a raid over berlin (august 25) After that, Hitler ordered "for disruptive attacks on the population and air defences of major British cities, including London, by day and night"

  • Great Facts! The Battle of Britain was decided by chance? By switching targets, from RAF´s airfields to cities Luftwaffe lost.

  • agree

  • I didn't know Germany apologized. That's pretty interesting.

  • They as most of the Northern European countries had and still have a honor code during war.

Its soldier vs soldier and not against civilians.

Allthough Hitler was a fucking civillian killing asshole, he did not have that much military power on the early years of the war like he had later on.

  • @gandhicakes yeah but i think churchill took it rather personally and bit off more than we could chew..luckily most of our serious production facilities were moved up north out of the range of there bombers

  • @maurirossi How do you think, the germans apologized? They apologized on radio maybe?or how?

  • @maurirossi Did Churchill take advantage or just not believe Hitler? Remember, in WW1, the Germans bombed London from Zeppelins and that was clearly their intent.

  • Ok i'm young Polish boy (16) and i'm into history. Gery's flameing bombs Destroyed lot of polish cities (eg. Warsaw). War startet from boms away Wieluń (strategic target over 100 000 noun masculine ppl lived there). My grand dad family died from junkers small bomb. After poland gerys started to prepare He 111 to destory Britain. Polish boys helped RAF to defend it on their huricanes. 1 flying battalion (303) shot down 297 gerys plane Revange;) Sorry Gerrys only facts. Your pilots were lames ;)

  • @stasio93

what you wrote there kinda doesnt make sense.

  • @stasio93

June 6th, 1939. Polish ambassador in USA Jerzi Potocki wrote to his diary:

"In the West, there are all kinds of elements openly pushing for war: the JEWS, the SUPER-CAPITALISTS, the ARMS dealers. Today they are all ready for a great business, because they have found a place which can be set on fire: Danzig; and a nation that is ready to fight: Poland. They want to do business on our backs. They are indifferent to the destruction of our country..."

Do they tell us this in history class?

  • NO !!! They didnt told me that when I was in History lecon :( . In fact, my teacher took, like 45 min to describe world war two... Asser moche ! :)

  • @stasio93 don´t miss your english classes either.

  • @stasio93 if your gonna post something learn how to speak english correctly.

  • relax. -he's interested, got some facts, not a lib.

    -how's your polish?

  • Love the sound of American aircraft engines!

  • It is Bf109, not Me 109 because the company was named Bayerische Flugzeugwerke before 1938 when Messerschmitt aquired the company. All aircraft built after '38 were then prefixed "Me".

  • its actually both, Me Bf109, designer and manufacturer

  • Engine damage, probably shot up by a messerschmitt.

  • There are some bizarre comments on here...

You do realise that Germany started bombing civilians - British & French Cities - in World War ONE? Because Britain was an island, Germany was able to shell British cities from battleships, which they did from 1914. The long range heavy bomber was invented by Germany - first Zeppelins, then Gotha & Staaken aircraft. London & other cities were bombed repeatedly. Britain couldn't retaliate, being unable to reach any large German city before WW1 ended.

  • @SAHBfan

Great Britian started bombing civilians cities in WW2!

  • @chuckskull123

Not quite sure what you are trying to say, but if you are trying to say Britain were the first to start bombing civilians in WW2, that isn't true.

On 1 September 1939 the Luftwaffe attacked the Polish town of Wieluń, destroying 75% of the city & 1,200 people, mostly civilians.

Later they bombed Warsaw. Germany had bombed a lot of civilians before Britain even declared war.

I suggest you google "Wieluń" & "Blitzkrieg" to see who started terror bombing civilians in WW2.

  • @chuckskull123 : Civilian cities ? You mean, cities with civilians inside ? Thanks Captain Obvious.

  • @oOCrossroadsOo

Hiroshima was a "military" city with lots of soldiers in it. Hence it made sense bombing it. Nagasaki was a "military" city too.

  • @McLarenMercedes : More than 100 000 civilians killed, yeah you're right those cities were full of soldiers. That's what militaries told themself to feel better after killing all those people.

I'm not denying that it ended the war and all, and saved the lives of alot of people (american soldiers, japanese soldiers, civilians also) but I can't accept when people say that it made sense and was the better thing to do when thousands of people died...

  • @oOCrossroadsOo Civilian workers provided the means necessary to make war. Killing them was an important part of Allied strategy, like it or not. Every civilian killed meant less ammunition or fewer field rations for troops. Weapons, uniforms, boots right down to buttons were produced by civilians. They were legitimate targets.

  • @SpeedyNeutrino43 : Then they should have destroyed the factories, not the whole city.

  • Actually, oil is injected into the exhaust manifold to produce smoke. Kerosene wouldn't make enough smoke. One more thing to remember. The USA never occupied land with the idea if keeping it unlike the Germans and the Japanese. After the war all occupied lands were returned to the former enemies. Yes, US troops were in both places for many years after WW2, but only at the request of the Germans and Japanese....for their own protection. Get your history straight.

  • Comment removed

  • @SpeedyNeutrino43:

    a "little" blue-eyed.

NONE of these countries (germany, japan, vietnam...or even a Vichy-France- which was ackknowledged official by the allies-and so on) EVER requested the americans.

And by the way, ever heard something of "formal" and "informal" system of goverment?

Ever heard something of proxy wars?

    @bpbat21:

unrefined comment...so i hope this for you too...

    @Bot:

no one of you brought appropriate reaction/answer to the contribution and case i did. What a shame!

  • What country do you live in?

  • You need to remember that the US had other designs to spread it's influence, just as much so as occupying territory by a serious of bases, treaties and such.

Oh, and the US did occupy and keep numerous islands in the Pacific, which when surrounded by a 200 mile radius (for economic exclusive zone) gave us millions of square miles of sea, ripe for exploiting.

  • Its sad to think people only see this as an old airplane. Its a flying piece of history (one of few) and its important to keep them aloft, to remeber those who died fighting in them, and the ones that got our boys home. Keep them flying, please!!!

  • Across the pond you find some cowardly roosevelt oligarchs and capitalist war industrials who follow the british pre-war-air-terror doctrin (instead of producing only tactical bombers) and spam around with level-bombing airplanes(B-17) with 5 % hitprobability. But higher isn´t needed...cause you want to erase human beings and cities. Dresden 1945 best example...no military targets and at the end of war (what was both known) but clear intention and aim to kill all the citizens and east-refugees.

  • I don't know who you are...but I hope you don't live in the United States, or are a U.S. citizen.

  • Whoa buddy, Dresden was a major railway centre feeding supplies, men and arms to fight against the Red Army. It was also a beautiful city and a sad but necessary loss. You do not hear the Spanish, Czechs, Poles, Dutch, French or Brits whining about the Luftwaffe do you? Maybe you are unintentionally diverting attention from Nazi crimes?

  • Ok...step by step... :-)

    -Dresden:

It is proven, even in the establish historiography, that churchill and other of the strategic bombing staff (Harris) gave order and planned to terminate the citizens and refugee in Dresden.

For this task they researched and optimated the theory of firestorms. They destroyed completly up to 15 km^2 and other 60% of the city heavy and killed 25 000-35 000 civilians (coventry 500 civilians).

It is proven that Dresden was completly military irrelevant.

  • The first military relevant action was AFTER the BOMBER ATTACKS of Dresden.

From the airfield of Dresden, germans tried to support the sieged Breslau.

Destroying railways shall be the cause for that Bombardement? .....rofl

  • Next step:

It is also proven that germans built up a tactical airforce with low range and low or middle payload.

    In contrary:

The BRITISH pre-war-doctrin 1928 the TRENCHARD-DOCTRIN. They planned the heavy strategic Avro Lancaster in the 30´ and the Electron-Thermitesticks

(5 millions already build at the outbreak of war).- THis all for strategic bombardements of cities (in euphemism interpretation: "War industry") .

  • Next step:

Germans flew a lot of tactical sorties. In this sphere german attacks on Rotterdam and Warsaw proceeded.

    Why?:

Rotterdam and especially Warsaw german LAND-FORCES already stand in front of.

In Warsaw the polish troops (200 000 men)take position and built up a defense.

Germans gave severals ultimata for the polish troops to surrender...they declined!

Then the air-attack and artillery support started, german troops assault into the city.

  • Rotterdam followed the ultimatum but only a few of the already started bombers got the radio order to fly back to the airfield...

the rest had problem with their radio-communication (so it was a unintentional mistake - the aftermath were 800 dead)

  • Next step: Spain 1936-37. In fact there are several arguments for war-crime in guernica city. In case of a warcrime the germans killed about 266 people (spanish republican police report). Pro-Bombing argument: -several hundreds enemy soldiers -1 Bridge -2 military factories -1 caserne Pro-warcrime-arguments: -machine gun fire on fleeing people (may identified as civilians?) - using of incendiary bombs
  • Ya! Heinkel 111's broke there teeth on Spain, remember Guernica, you fucking Nazi!

  • Next Step:

what are you meaning with france or czechs?

    Next Step:

    Britian:

Germans first and most time only bombing radarstations, airfields and later industrial areas. Germans didn´t had an interest or order or strategical doctrin to abandon their up to NOW in the war used pure tactical coordination of the air-support.

BUT the British start bombing citys with 12.may.1940 (Mönchengladbach). Several other bombardements follow. They attack 8 times Berlin (the capital).

  • Some of these attack were intended only to attack the civilian center of Berlin.

SO british initial startet the intentional and ordered TERROR-BOMBING!

After that germans launch at the 7.Sep.1940 their first pure TERROR-Bombardement on LONDON as a revenge for british attack.

Coventry, by the way the biggest war-industrial-area of Britian get bombed at 14.november 1940.

It conjunction with the initial terror-bombing of the british it would "legitimate" a terror-bombardement against this city

  • But in this case it wasn´t one (undisputed).

The 500 dead were simply collateral damage.

You american guys (assumption) should be very experienced with this term. ....lol

After this british followed their TRENCHARD-doctrin and together with the americans they REPRISE their doctrin in the "Area Bombing Directive".

Anglo-Americans KILLED in spite of german trials to defend against these bombing raids and protect their civilians in bunkers about 600 000 civilians.

  • By the way:

The german counter-terror-attacks on britain -with their not for that laid out air-force (V1 and V2 weapons included) - only causes

    60 000 dead.

    Conclusion:

-The british had the doctrin in the 20th and 30th (TRENCHARD-doctrin), and followed this doctrin, while building up their air-force

-The British started initial the intentional TERROR-BOMBING actions

-Germans simply did revenge against this since 7.sep.1940

  • -Anglo-american perfected their air-forces and attack-systems (1000 heavy strategic level bombers in firestorm bombing raids ) to erase the german civilists and citys.

    - Anglo-americans should get incriminate by the international tribunal cause of breaking the Hague Convention and genocide.

  • Tim, you are a child! War isn't about being NICE! War is about punishing a population for the sins of failed governmental policy. You sir, are a fucking idiot of the nTh degree. Not only did Geramny earn the bombng, they deserved it!!!!!! Seig Heil mother fucker!

  • Americans mostly only hide themselves behind their airpower and spam around.

In Vietnam americans only lost 50 000 men but killed about 3 000 000 ....cause the drop more bombs in these 20 year about vietnam than over germany......

  • But they didn't bomb cities in Vietnam with the intention of destroying EVERYTHING like in Germany. Big big difference. One was a war crime (bombing of Germany), one wasn't as much, but still pretty nasty.

  • The first expedient answer, mygoatisdead ! :-)

    Have a good time.

  • Bombing Germany was a was crime? Where the fuck did you learn your history from you idiot?????

  • Read the 30 post before :

    Conclusion:

-The british had the TRENCHARD-doctrin in the 20th and 30th.They followed this doctrin! ("avro lancaster" plans for strategic heavy high level bomber; mass production of electron-thermitesticks; both long before war).

German didn´t have such a doctrin they build up their airforce for tactical purposes "stuka".

-The British started initial the INTENTIONAL TERROR-BOMBING actions (by 26.08.´40)

  • Actually, the Imperial German Reichswaffe created the first "terror bombing doctrine" (based on the written works of Italian General Giulio Douhet) prior to WWI as part of the German Navy's "Winterarbeiten" (a planned invasion of the eastern United States first proposed in 1899, planned for 1916, and postponed in 1914). It was first implemented against Paris and London in 1914. The Germans expanded it greatly in the Spanish Civil War.

  • Tim0000000000123 please read history. the Germans started terror bombing. the Brits just returned the favor

  • Hitler ordered to bomber London after a missing british plane drop bombs over a civilian place in Germany. History : As early May 11, 1940, the RAF decided to bomb German cities.

    Here a statement from April 18, 1941:

"The earlier raid against Berlin was not only repercussion,

but part of the regular procedure of the RAF as instructed by the

    royal government."

  • Wow failing at history is failing. back up a few pages and look at Poland hell back up further and look at the Spanish Civil war and the Condor Legion.

  • Dear, we were talking about ww2... Civilian population was attacked by armies since the history has memory.... Is not failling history...is just history. The first city boming during ww was committed by mistake by a british bomber...Anyhow, bombing civilians is cowards issue.

  • um no. the first City bombing was in Poland and there was more then 1.

  • Dear sir, let my take a deeper investigation in my books...maybe you are right about Poland, but related to britain, I am almost sure about my position. I have to read if after september 1th/39 german bombers attacked cities or only strategical targets.

  • @maurirossi

    Really? Please elaborate!

  • @Dogmeat1950

    Really? Please elaborate!

  • it's called the Spanish-Civil war they bombed a town just to see what effect they would get.

  • Well, actually it is irrelevant who did start it first cause terror bombing was one of main aerial strategies on this time - all did it.

  • ya that is true.

  • -Amis shouldn´t be very proud of their air-superiority, cause they are in secure behind the seas and always are the economic winner of the struggles in europe (1st World War and second too)

-Americans shouldn´t be proud of their won land operations cause they usually got it by final use of their air-spam(esp. ardennes and hürtgenwald - weather probs)

-Amis shouldn´t be proud of their level-bombers cause they were only part of a planned genocid.

B-17 is USAs rubber stamp for Terror-making!

  • Idiot. They could have crashed the plane! It's OLD.

  • Anyone know how they achieved this effect? Was it just smoke packs, or can it be done by say, enriching the fuel mixture going into the engines?

  • I know that on a lot of the stunt plane the inject kerosene into the exhaust manifold to create smoke, maybe they do the same there...?

Just love the sound of them Wright Cyclone engines!!

  • properly just a smoke launcher ;)

  • This is done with smoke packs... It used ot be on both port side engines, now only in the inboard port side engine... Achieved by injecting diesel fuel into the end of the exhust pipe.

  • The sight of Sally B gracing the skys, always gives me goose bumps!!!!!!!!

  • It could fly on 2 but I think they need to dump stuff out the plane and it will slowly descend. So it depends on your definition of 'fly'.

  • could the b17 fly on 2 or 3 engines?

  • 2 if i remember correct.

  • in the movie the memphis belle it ran on only 1 but that might not be true but it can definatly run on 2

  • i thought that the memphis belle was forced to fly with one engine

  • That's correct. Memphis Belle flew 25 missions and the last one they had to flew on one engine.

  • it can fly on 1.

  • at the very beginning it looks like the props are feathered

  • it would have been epic if the propellers were actually feathered... or better yet, windmilling so it looks like they couldnt even feather it

  • or an ME-262 behind it shooting some fireworks at it, lol...

  • If the engines stop and they dont feather the props it wont windmill the engine they will act as airbrakes and cause the plane to yaw uncontrolably.

  • Don't mention the war!
