fully agree with the bass and drum from another world. decided they were both aliens as no human could play like this. sometimes i rewind the cassette two and three times to hear it again.
Another song ahead of their time. On that moment -circa 1966- they were a band already during 10 years! 10 years of thousands of sesions, night clubs shows, etc. The FabFour layed that monumental song like we drink a glass of water. Bass line and drums from another world.

if i got married to one of the beatles, i wouldnt want to even have sex with them.. Id just want to hold their hand or just kiss them... that would be enough for me

I had missed the broadcast of Ed Sullivan the night before and the girls who lived down the street were telling me about this song. They were horrified with the way they looked, especially George's "teased hair". In all the years between I don't think I've ever seen this video. One of their greatest songs and recording experiments. I think I really prefer the experimental stage they were in during the Revolver sessions more than any other period of their work.
The sad part is that this was shot so unimaginatively. The drab outfits and poor lighting don't do justice to one of their greatest recordings. Shame that whoever directed this didn't think to combine elements of this shoot with the outdoor footage.
@garyspong The drabness, is a good thing. think about it the boys are singing about how people behave, when it rains. When the sun shine they sit beneath a tree. And drink their lemon aide. Not much light under a tree either.
Quite the contrary..... it was all done on purpose. This is a dark song. Trippy, edgy, at the time very experimental and almost avant garde. The drab lighting and their depressed persona is great for this song. It was a time the Beatles were very creative and actually, on purpose, going against their happy, cute, and puppy dog love fest they had created with everything from I Saw Her Standing There to I Feel Fine. Now they're talking 3rd person and deep thoughts. That's why the Beatles rock!
@julyman08 I don't know why peopel said that he's a bad drummer ! C'mon his one of teh ebst drummer of the world ! People how said that don't know the real talent !
According to one source, the instrumental track was recorded much faster and then slowed down to record John's vocals, hence the drums and guitars have a really "deep sound" and paul later dubbed his new rickenbacker bass for his unreal bass line.
Check out Paul around :47 Yaaawn

Double A-side single: Rain/Paperback Writer, both songs in G, great basslines, a unique solid, innovative release.

I totally agree with that. When I saw him live with his all-star band I was blown away with his drumming. Ringo Rocks.

@Cantormatis Actually it was just the drums that were recorded faster and slowed down. Guitars were recorded at regular speed.
