Good thing NTSB helped out. Venezuela's investigators were overwhelmed.....unfortunately most third world countries aren't trained or equipped for major air catastrophes.
I am not a pilot and have no aviation experience, and even I thought it was odd that the Captain requested the anti-icing be turned off. I wasn't sure if I heard that right and had to replay it.
At 9:02, does he say "The aircraft was perfectly safe to fly at 33,000 feet with the anti-ice on. ... However, it could only fly at 31,900 feet with the anti-ice on"?
@MegaTurtle11 I think he said "The aircraft was perfectly safe to fly at 33,000 feet with the anti-ice off..." but the frame is to fast to let him spelling the word completely.
@MegaTurtle11 yea it makes sense because it could go up to 33,000 with good weather and less weight.. but with the weight and bad weather,, it couldnt
as much as i like ACI, they make a lot of mistakes about flying in nearly each episode: 0:41 ,,a stall is when the lift can not support the weight of the plane'' is a bad definition. In a climb or descent the lift is always less than weight. ,, A sudden breakdown of smooth airfow over wing leading to sudden lift loss'' is better.
0:21 ,, engine pressure ration tells how much power the engine had'' They mix up POWER and THRUST. jet power has to do with the RPM and EPR is not a RPM meter.
Nice videos, terrible accidents :(

DC MD 82 version from DC9 is a useless JET and DC9 crashes a lot too. that is why they are no longer in production right now.

@Nocgirl
I thought the same thing. Why would a pilot turn it off?

It makes perfect sense the power tables would have shown that it was just too high at the time. Please watch the whole video and check it again.
