This song explodes with emotions and feeling!!! I"ll never forget this song.it's impossible!!! I hope u all enjoy this song and that u never forget" a boy named........chalie brown
i once emailed rod mckuen and suggested he have a social gathering and call it "barbecuen with rod mckuen". he replied "thanks for the smile of the day." it warmed my little cracked, claypot heart.
I remember crying when I first saw this as a kid, and sometimes I still tear up if it gets me when I'm feeling vulnerable, and I'm in my 40s! I was depressed a lot as a kid and suffered from a lot of feelings of failure and I always appreciated how honest this film was about how childhood wasn't automatically happy and carefree, and yet had a valuable message about how life goes on, no matter how badly you've screwed up. Plus it's darn good animation!
I love Charlie Brown, it started with my little brother while were growing up in NYC. My mother made sure we watch all of the Chalrie Brown movies I know own in dvds. Thnx for psting
I'm 19 years old and I'm pretty much the only person in my life other than my parents who have seen this movie. I love this song because of it's melancholy for Charlie Brown and the preciousness of youth. I only watched this for a few seconds and started welling up and had to stop it. :) it's a beautiful tune and a memorable film.
@eejm I'm also 19 and this is my favorite animated movie of all time and #9 on my top ten favorite films of all time list. I enjoy for the same reasons you two do. It's a sweet, touching, poignant, and sincere little gem.
@Poxell91 I also completely agree with you. I saw this movie when it first came out into theaters back in 1969. It made me weepy then, and even more so now. Thanks to eejm for posting it.
@Poxell91 I was 11 or 12 when I first heard this song and saw this movie and I didn't know anybody else who knew it either, I know exactly what you're on about.
@Poxell91 Wow... i almost made an ass of myself... i thought you had claimed to be 9 years old not 19... lol. and i was all like "wtf?! you're not 9 years old! when i was 9 years old I would have thought that melancholy was a large fruit. "the preciousness of youth"? come one buddy... " people are always on youtube like "Im 12 years old and i hate the music of today! i like old music from the 60's or like whatever the hell." blah
@Poxell91 im 18 years old and i love Charlie Brown, its a great cartoon and a great song, both show us that everyone is a bit of Charlie Brown, maybe thats why i like it so much...
@Poxell91 Yessssssss!!! Im 30 and i have been a great fan of this film since i was a kid! I love it! Snoopy come home was great also! That one made me want to play piano. I still play! :D
@sthrondson Rod McKuen sings a version of this on his greatest hits CD which I think is sadly out of print. There was a soundtrack album to this film that has the two versions of the song used as bookends to the film. I have only ever seen one copy of this soundtrack record (which I immediately bought just for this song) and I doubt it has ever been pressed on CD...
Made me cry again at 46. I used to feel so good watching Charlie Brown. Had a ruff childhood. He helped me escape. I recall playing this album over & over..... Thanks
weird to hear today's kids talk about liking something from the 80s. well, i guess that happened to me with this 60s movie. watching it nearly every afternoon on HBO in 1983, McKuen's song (esp during the end credits) still grabs hold and wrenches my heart every time.
Boy this video brings me back to my childhood days when we had small gang of kids that played baseball and flew kites....in a way we're all Charlie Browns and to me Charlie was my hero....this video goes right to the heart with special thoughts of my little brother Dave that loved Charlie Brown and was so much like him...
Such a heart warming song. Makes me happy and sad at the same time. Not to mention it makes me feel like a kid again. Oh why can't we start off old and grow younger. :''' )
@Batamon1997 There was a TV special called "A Boy Named Charlie Brown" but it was mostly about Schulz and the comic strip. This is from a theatrical movie of the same title; I remember seeing it in a theater, when I was very young, and almost crying because I felt so sad for CB and because I felt a little like him.
THIS IS THE STUPIDEST THING EVER. BUT I LOVE MY MOM SO I AM NOT TAKING ANY CHANCES.If you don't copy and paste this onto 10 videos your mom will die in 4 hours
Does anyone know where I can get the Rod McKuen version of this song? The Glenn Yarbough version seems easily available, but I'm not interested in that one.
I love the peanuts I have 3 of the 4 movies including this one. I also have 16 of the specials and I continue to add to my collection. Peanuts for ever.
These old clips from my childhood just make me wonder if these new generations of kids will appreciate as much as we do Charlie's legacy or even know who he is.
Charles Schulz made the best animation of all the time, Charlie Brown , i dont have seen a animation which is best than charlie brown, its just perfect, great animation, great charactrs, great music...its just the best american animation of all the times, even its superior to some animes
I don´t want to sound rude, but there is a lot of generic anime now :/
but if there is someone to respect and hail, is Hayao Miyazaki, and i do like anime, but i don´t find so interesting some animes everyone found fabolous :)
Everyone, and I mean ALL of us have at one point in our lives felt just like Charlie Brown. Thank you and God bless you Charles Schulz. I am so thankful that my children now love Charlie Brown as much as I did and still do. Thanks again, Sparky.
This song and "Do You Remember Me?" and "It Changes" (both from "Snoopy, Come Home") are probably the most moving songs in the Peanuts films; they just choke me every time I hear them. :'(
I can never watch this whole clip; it just tears me up too much! Such a mix of emotions from my childhood in the 1970s wrapped up in these Peanuts specials, and this one--especially the Rod McKuen song at the start here--takes me back to when I was 8 or 9. Sadly, I'm still 38, so those memories are bittersweet...sigh...thanks for posting!
Tears in mine too. I have retained this song since early childhood - the one I remember though was sung by a woman at the closing credits of a Peanuts cartoon. Kudos to Schultz for creating a jazz lover of me. Thanks Chuck!
This beautiful song was composed and written by Rod McKuen, and it is named "a boy named Charlie Brown" here's the lyrics for the song Like the shadows of the morning, 'climb up to the August afternoon. Charlie has a way, Of picking up the day, Just by walking slowly in a room. Maybe it's a kind of magic That only little boys can do. But seeing Charlie smile, Can make you stop awhile, And get you feelin' glad you're you.

He's an All-American kid. And unlike a lot of characters you see on TV or in movies, he's not really a "hero". He's not popular, he's not the best at something, etc. He's an ordinary guy who has to deals with feelings of sadness and failure. But that's what's wonderful about him. Even after so much disappointment, he never gives up and he still has a good heart.
Charlie's always a hero in my book. I miss this movie. Very nostalgic to watch this.
damn straight, he's a better example to all the failures in the world.. instead of getting all mopey and depressed and start dressing up in black and show the world that you are a failure..
Charlie Brown still never lets it get to him, he seems to have uplifted spirits all the time even though he constantly is pushed back down
Charlie Brown is not an All-American kid. He's an All-World person. I'm a German in my mid-twenties and I still feel like Charlie Brown nearly every day. Charles Schulz was a rare man who truly deserved the term genius for putting things such as this on paper and film.
My feelings toward Peanuts are mixed right now. Half of me says it's worth the trouble Schulz went through to make it and that we viewers and readers went through to absorb it. The other half says it's just a big middle finger towards life and the universe.
@uadan06 I completely agree, save for one little part. There's nothing typically All-American about it. I'm Dutch and I identify with Charlie for all the reasons you pointed out. The world is filled with Charlie Browns.
Err...let me rephrase that: the Peanuts comic strip was better, or rather greater, than The Simpsons, but the specials and movies weren't, except of course for A Charlie Brown Christmas. You can't really compare the two.
I loved this movie .. i wish they would put this on tv

I'll keep that in mind.

All-American is correct. South America included.
I'm from Brazil and Charlie Brown is the best character of all times, and in second I think is Doug Funny.

Charlie Brown is not an All-American kid. He's an All-World person. I'm a German in my mid-twenties and I still feel like Charlie Brown nearly every day. Charles Schulz was a rare man who truly deserved the term genius for putting things such as this on paper and film.

@TheValoisMadness
Totally agreed. I still feel this same way too.

I loved this movie as a child. It is good to be able to see it again.

Welllllll...I wouldn't say *better*, but it was definitely more artistic and philosophical. It's just...different. Not really for kids.

Err...let me rephrase that: the Peanuts comic strip was better, or rather greater, than The Simpsons, but the specials and movies weren't, except of course for A Charlie Brown Christmas. You can't really compare the two.
