  • I love her!

  • love it!!!!

  • Thanks for sharing your grandma with us. I enjoyed the videos. God love her. She's adorable. Wish I still had my grandma's around.

  • She ain't kiddin' around- cracking your own nuts? What a wonderful cook that shares her recipe(s). So good to see it's being passed from generation, but, sorry, I'll stick with electric and use peeled nuts. Wish I had the patience! Whew!

  • Awwwww soooo cute! I wish I could make cookies with her!!

  • thank you you are so nice.....

  • I wish I still had my grandma around! We used to bake together all the time at Christmas. It's nice to see these 2 young girls baking with their grandma. Great video!

  • I loved Part 1, but I can't find Part 2.

  • @mybraxtonburns

Just copy & paste into the YouTube search box, "Holiday Cooking: Sicilian Fig Cookies - Part II".

  • I am just enjoying this lady...and fondly remembering my own family. Glad to see how you cherish her. She deserves it :)

  • This looks so good! I want to make them for Christmas this year!

  • @ArabNobility what do you mean by "that explains a lot"? lmao

  • @ArabNobility Well, I'm a woman, but you're welcome. :) Hang in there.

  • @ArabNobility Maybe you should try speaking, acting and writing like a gentleman, and then you'll find a lady.

  • How can you dislike this video?

  • STOP HATING!!

This is cute and this woman is amazing!!

  • Well isn't he just a fine bachelor huh?

  • Clara u r just magical and lights up my day every time i watch u r video..Regards from Australia

  • Your videos are just wonderful Clara! Bless you. (:

  • God bless you, Clara!

  • "I get the unshelled nuts because I think they're better fresh."

Translation: "I get the unshelled nuts because I love watching my children and grandchildren attempt to work as hard as I had to. THEY WILL NEVER KNOW THE PAIN!!" Haha, I do love this lady though, she's very sweet. :3

  • These videos are wonderful, thanks for all the love and work you put into them.

  • my eyes are so full of tears, to the youth out here, you should really take heed to this because here is what you call ''a real woman'' god bless her heart. she can cook, clean, healthy, sweet, busy, she gets things done. at 94 she is still at it., a true definition of a woman, she is so cherished and probably don't know it, she probably don't care either. woman like this don't need to fit in or pretend, they are home-makers with purpose and wisdom, this woman and my grandma? simple geniuses.

  • Imagine seeing the world go from candle light to the internet amazing

  • lol *let your grandchildren take you out for a nice dinner* clara, you're amazing. I really would like to try this recipe.

  • Therese and Abby seems to ignore, or dislike her talking to the camera...

  • that food processor is intense

  • She's too cute

  • God bless, Clara.

  • my grandfather had a fig tree in his backyand and delivered ice in the summar and coal in the winter

  • Clara, you are the greatest! Whether it's scrimping with potatoes or pouring it on in the holidays, you are teaching me many wonderful dishes I am delighted to know.

  • must be nice to sit around and cook food all day god what i would do for something besides hard bread and ramen noodles i might as well shoot myself in the face lol

  • @oletreece dump the pity party and hit a food pantry! "lol"

  • @oletreece She's 94-95 years old; she should be so lucky.

  • @breakinginfinity0 CLARA IS MY GREAT GRANDMOTHER I PROMISE......HI GRANDMOTHER!! :D

  • I wish I could have video-recorded my husband's grandmother cooking her wonderful desserts. What a treasure you are, Clara! Thanks to you and your family for sharing these cooking videos. I will watch every one.

  • Best one yet, so nice to see you cooking with your family!

  • Get drunk eating cookies. HAHA

  • CLARA YOUR HOT

  • Oh my God! Cuccidati!! My Nonna used to make them too. I love Clara, she's as cheeky as my Nonna Josie was. We have to keep these traditions alive. Thanks for posting this!

  • Thanks for sharing this, I really like this one

  • lol I came from Holiday, a rock n roll song by green day XD

  • @pebble37lifter same XD

  • @Lucasorsum hahaha cool

  • Clara, the best n easier way to peel an orange is to roll it around the countertop before peeling it. it makes it softer and easy to peel. :)

  • They look so yummy! Clara, you are amazing! you truly donot look 95 more like 75. your very alert, smart and have a very sharp mind. God Bless You!

  • /watch?v=Pt2IZ-MhnbM for easy explaination

  • We've been making these cuccidatis off and on for days now. Mrs is going to take them to work as Christmas gifts.

  • You're adorable. I love you.

  • Thanks so much for sharing. Reminds me of my Mother who passed away. I feel like I'm a part of your family while I'm watching this. This generation will be missed. All the Italian traditions were still carried on by them. We need to learn and keep passing on these traditions.

  • I love how your stories always inspires everyone else to share their families stories, and how this new technology enables us to share such important things. Thanks for all your hard work Clara, you really inspire me.

  • *let your grandchildren take you out for a nice dinner*

    I loved that part :]

  • Clara is simply a joy to watch, not to mention a wonderful cook!!

  • you are an inspiration! i luv u may god bless u always and forever!

  • Old ladies in the kitchen just can't be beat! We're all spoiled upstarts in comparison ;-)

  • these are the ingredients you use to make the sicilian cookies: flour, sugar, lard, milk.......raisins, dates, orange, tangerine skin, and figs......thats all *cheeky grin*

  • @sweetcyanide218 don't forget the toasted nuts! ; )

  • Thumbs up if you clicked this video because the pic looked like a man with a strange hat and automatically connected it to an italian medieval outfit because of the word "sicilian" on the video title.

  • che hawe just 1 and red....

  • Clara reminds me of the time I spent with my grandmother, cooking in the kitchen. Great job on those cookies...

  • I love how she lists all the ingredients and then says "that's all" like it wasn't very much. lol!

  • I Love This Lady!!! I want a cookbook and will order as soon as possible I love the stories. Reminds me of my grandmother's.

  • haha thats true. i guess I do enjoy bread pudding and trifles and what not too, but its still slim pickins to find anything decent in british cuisine.

  • I love the tales of times long ago. I'm glad I've subscribed!

  • wow. thats cookies with depth

  • that lady is cool beans!

you know somebody's not much of a cook when they're measuring out a cup of water and they look at the line to make sure it's exactly a cup, like how one of the younger girls did.

  • people who have relatives that bake like this I envy 100%. unfortunately i never grew up with this in my house or got this from any of my relatives. ironically i am paternally italian but my grandmother was irish/jewish and i don't think she ever knew how to cook work her life. my maternal side are all wasps soo you know they can't cook worth shit. ahh how i envy people who have grandmother cook bake for them.

  • @ivanahumpalot420

LOL! Isn't it the truth? But no one makes a martini or a gin n' tonic the way wasps do!

  • i love your videos

  • i used to love to watch rachel ray cook now i love watching you everything you make looks wonderful.

  • I made this recipe for Christmas and the are the best Cuccidati's ive ever had (even better than the Italian bakeries in NYC). The cookie part was so light and flaky (from the lard) that you could easily eat 10 of them! And the whiskey really added something to the filling :-p They are a lot of work, but are really worth it.

  • I love these cookies. Some people add chocolate bits to them

  • Clara, Thank you for sharing. It means alot to all of us out here, that have made these cookies with our loved ones over the years. I has brought a tear to my eye and joy to my heart. Merry Christmas and thanks.

  • Clara, you're right - expensive!! I just bought the ingredients for mine. I use rum instead of whiskey. I zest the orange...I skip the candied fruit, although my nonna used to use it.

  • Omg! I absolutely LOVE family traditions.... and this here is amazing.... And Clara is too adorable. She reminds me of my grandma who is 96 years old in central america... =)

  • I loved it, so reminded me of my own grandmothers who lived through the depression. Their food processor must be heavy duty, I burned mine up trying to grind dates, LOL. Every year I think I'll make these but run out of time.

  • She reminds me of my Mom. *sigh* .. (love)

  • Please enjoy your Nana whilst you can. My Mum has Dementia and although she is twenty years younger I've lost her. You are blessed.

  • will u be my NANA...

    Ur wonderful

glad I found and subbed to u.

  • What a sweet lady! I'll bet your granddaughters adore you! Thanks for sharing this!

  • christmas ftw

  • My mom loves you clara!!!ME too..

    God bless

  • wow cucidati non c e nulla di piu buono al mondo

  • This was wonderful! Thank you, Clara!! I can see why my Nana doesnt make these anymore! That's a lot of work for one person!

  • watch this show always makes me miss my great grandma

  • Wow Cucidati...we dont make them too often anymore, with figs and dates being so expensive

  • My great aunt (born in 1914, oldest girl in family of 11 kids) told me it was her job to wash the big cooking pots. She decided not to do them & starting hiding them outside in the chicken house.

After a few days her mom wondered where all the pots were. Her brother told and she had to spend 4 hours cleaning them all up and only had bread and chicken broth for dinner. She still hated cleaning the pots. My favorite uncle (born in 1907) always washed the pots; they cooked & canned together.

  • Thank you Clara for your videos. I love watching them. God Bless you Clara.

  • just like home. <3

  • Awesome video! My family is Sicilian too. My grandparents, or Nana and Nanu, are 87 and 86 and also make cucciddati. I remember making them with them when I was a kid, standing on a stool to reach the counter.

The process is almost the same, although our filling has less ingredients. We make the filling and dough, then fill them, cutting them on an angle like that and putting slits on one side, and then we frost and sprinkle them. My grandparents put them on the bed for storage too!

  • Clara you rock! I just love your videos!!

  • I love her.

  • Clara Dear, You are amazing and I am so grateful that you made this video for all of us who need a little coaching to carry on our family traditions. Many thanks to your family for making this and sharing it with all of us! You are the very best!

  • Dear Clara,

I truly enjoyed your video. My mother and I make Cucidati

every year. my mom grows and dries her own figs. This year we

made 800 of Cudidati's. Your recipe is similar to my Nona' who was from Siclily . I am the only one of my sisters who has learned to make all of the traditional Italian cookies.

Thanks for sharing . It' worth all the work to have these cookies.

    Sicily

  • I've learned if you wanna live to be in your 90's (extra salt)

OH MY Goodness!!!! that like almost 30 things in that cookie Nooo way.

And like 3/4 of a bag of flower wow that's allot of cookies

  • Now I love the whole family!

  • She cooks like me, LOL, everything NEEDS MORE SALT have you noticed? I do the same!

  • "dont pour too much whiskey in there. we'll get drunk off the cookies." LOL.

  • Oh Dio Mio! Clara you remind me of my Nana! I think she used to make these cookies too. I have to make this recipe very soon!!

  • I would pay $20 for a box of these it must cost $60 to make them if not more.

  • Amazing videos. Thank you Clara.

I know these cookies, and remember what a big deal it was to make them for the holidays.

  • these videos are awesome! i'm definitely making the poor man's meal; i've made similar in the past but haven't thought to add hotdog to it.

thanks for posting these here <3

  • My mother and her family would make similar fig cookies during the holidays. My mom still sometimes makes them occasionally. Very traditional Sicilian cookies.

  • LOL i thot the video said "sicilian FAG cookies" i was like WTF

    anyways UR AWESOME CLAIR!!

  • You are amazing. Keep going. I want to see all your videos.

  • "Don't put too much we'll all get drunk eating a cookie!" :-D

  • I hope those girls really understand what a wonderful women you are!!!

    Blessed be!!

  • What a wonderful woman!!!

Everyone needs a Clara in their live.

I usually hate to cook but you make it seem so easy ")

Thanks for the warm fuzzy that brings back so many childhood memories..

    Keep up the GREAT job!!

  • My Mother-inlaw also makes these cookies, also only on the holidays. She makes enough for goody bags. We have to hide them from my son or he will eat them all.Clara,There not to many people who still make these, wounderful cookies.

Thank you for the video,It was great

  • Clara, dont listen to the bad comments. they're just jealous they can't cook as delicious as you do.

  • "Let your grandmother take you out to dinner."

I wish I had seen the wisdom in that when I was younger and my grandmothers were still here.

  • your recipes are easy to do.. thank you very much!

  • You are absolutely right, I'm surprised you have a negative rating here. Too many people in denial and in their blissful ignorance I guess who don't want to know the bad that is going on in life. But guess what, you don't learn the bad then how will you make it better? You shouldn't turn a blind eye to an infected wound else risk losing the entire limb.. you should tend to the wound, or at least research if there IS a wound and learn about it.

  • And then so you should make cookies with your family to discuss it. This will be the fourth year that our family and friends (over 50 - 1/5th traveling from out of town) will gather to make our family's version of fig cookies (resurected from decades old recipes) over a four-day period before Christmas. We eat and drink and discuss and debate and dance and cooperate and shop and bake and clean and kiss and enjoy like no other family event ever. Better than Christmas. Neosporin for the soul.

  • Dearest Clara: your cookies ARE better!! But you can also go broke with the ingredients. ;-)

I remember Great grandma used to make them for Christmas only because of the manual labor (using the meat grinder for sausages to make the paste) and she also added lots of whiskey or a sweet liquor of some kind.

    Grandpa (her son)used to say: " Basta,basta!!

    Mamma non voglio embriagarme...''

Thanks for the memories Clara. It takes me back HOME....way back....

  • Its okay Clara, put those young kids to work instead!! Thats what theyre here for :)

Id so love to sit there and crack nuts with you all day!

  • This looks so good... My mouth is watering already.

  • Dear Clara: My husban's mother is 89 and is as healthy and beautiful as you are! She remembers those days, she used to go to St Jesu's Mass at Miami Fl. My husband is from Miami, I'm from Cuba, we live now in Tampa, Fl.

  • Wow.. This seems like a really fun family thing to do! must of been great in the old days where having the best clothes and videos games didnt matter!!

  • Thanks for sharing your wonderful stories Clara! With the current state of the world, the younger generations have so much to learn from your wisdom and experience. You are such a sweet, charming, humorous breath of fresh air!

  • We have a fig tree in our backyard, and we never know what to do with them (you get tired of eating them plain or making fig preserves), so I'll try making these cookies!

  • urs are better? whoa you had guts to tell him! lol your so cool!

  • my great grandma was 21 during the dreppsion she died at the aged of 91 of 2007 anyways really good recipes

  • I hope this is not a duplicate but the first time it did not go

She is a lovely lady,I would of never thought she was 91! I thought she was in her 70's. Shes such a beautiful woman, and I love all her recipes and stories.

My father lived during the holocaust, and depression, sorry I was too young for him to tell me what he went thru. God, if he only knew what was happening now in America, he would turn over in his grave!

Thank you Clara for your great advice and wonderful recipes! Love you

  • Thank you Clara for sharing your stories and recipes with the world.

  • Thank you Clara, you are wonderful. I miss my Nanna!!

  • Grande Clara, sei mitica!!!Mi sono innamorato della tua nipote mora!!!

  • Clara, thanks for the memories... I grew up in a Sicilian family.. my grandfather had old picture albums and always spoke of life during the depression. My grandparents never trusted the banks after the depression and paid cash for everything. My grandma also made Italian chocolate cookies at Christmas.

  • These videos are GREAT! I love seeing your grandmother cooking and these cookies look fantastic.

Depression dinners seem to be the "food trend" right now. We recently did a two week series on recession/depression dinners - eating organically and how to save doing it. People are very interested in this topic!

    Keep up the great job!

  • They shouldn't spare the "rod" so much these days either!

  • Wonderful! Thank you Clara for bringing back great memories!

  • I bet they're much better than the ones at the store because I doubt they take so much time and mass produce tons of half assed cookies instead of making a nice couple batches like in this video.

They look really hard to make though, in my opinion.
