@Wyndrax Stu is from into eternity, Matt wanted family time ripper is in Dio deciples, Beyond fear, Charred walls of the damend and that should answer your question
@Bartimous dude, they only hate him because he is not Matt. I know because I at first didn't like Matt because he just wasn't ripper. sometimes i prefer the style of one, sometimes the other.
Barlow all the way...Iced Earth's line up is PERFECT right now and hopefully it stays like this for a long time and dont lose anyway like what normally happens...Owens was made for Judas Priest not Iced Earth, This is Barlow's job no one else can mimic it and he will always be one of the best and widely ranged vocalists out there...plus his stage presence is waaaaay more bad ass than Tim's...Glorious Burden fits Tim, but thats it!
omfg Fakers, i am really disappointed too see bastards who prefere Ripper in Barlow place, go screw ur nations fucking idiots, Only Barlow can sing all Iced Earth Discography, why do u think they had remastered the first 4 albums? because his voice is beyond of all fucking singers who sing for this great band, I'm Barlow Big Fan and i'm glad he came back
@AhoyJagan You're a Barlow fan? I would have never guessed :)
But seriously, you realize that your statements are just opinions right? Why cant others like Ripper? He is an insane vocalist and is incredible live. I dont care one way or another, Im not a huge fan of IE, but I do respect their work. And I enjoy listening to both vocalists do their thing
This may be one of the few songs I prefer Barlow on. Flawless performance, indeed, but Barlow has so much feeling.. It's beyond the technique, or the range.
Yeah, he ALWAYS seems to catch crap from die-hard fans in every major band he's ever played in. I wouldn't be surprised if die-hard YNGWIE fans think he sucks- even though he's one of the best vocalists around today. His work with JUDAS PRIEST on "Jugulator" was simply awesome!
I think that Ripper is a better vocalist than Barlow overall, but Barlow's voice suits better for Iced Earth, n like tmat82 said, they both have their trademark songs, barlow's is this n rippers is 10,000. Matt's voice suits this song better cos of his really mournful lower voice n when he bursts in with "the blood is the life" it just gives me goosebumps. Barlow is amazin, ripper is amazin, they're just amazin at their own things
@angelofretribution16 lol cock sucker the best singer for the Iced Earth it's just Barlow and only him, u can forgot about some1 who copy the Judas Priest Scream, fucking idiot Barlow Goo God u came back, love'ja
weak man ripper has nothing.. Judas was nothing outta the ordinary.. iced earth with Barlow is the shit.. perfect in every way.. no faults.. he is iced earth.. its like putting Shaffer in Metallica... just doesnt work yeah it would sound ok but shit at the end ov the day ripper was just a fill in..
just something ive noticed you know the part that goes "i avenge with darkness, the blood is the life, the order of the dragon, i feed on human life, there are far worse things awaiting man than death" matt always (live) sings "up until the or" and then he kinda just shouts in his regular voice "of the dragon" and pauses before continuing on. im fairly sure hed run out of breath otherwise. but he kicks ass live i mean, dont get me wrong. thats nitpicking. but tim got it the whole way.
He really can't sing very low... Several smaller mistakes in the intro. Also not as powerful on high registers. More intense, but no Matt Barlow... Sad to say...
is waaaay more powerfull xD the thing the ripper's voice is waaaay more strong, he does not use a thin falssetto xD i love matt, but the guy sound high just couse his timbre was ticker in the lowe register and was really really thin in the high notes xD ripper is JUST TWO STEPS LOW the highest note of halfordWITHOUT falssetto (erick adams, matt, kiske, matos, diamond, etc, all use fallsetto, they are all "cantantes liricos")
Barlow can't scream as well as Owens. Owens can keep his screams longer, and higher then Matt can. When makes songs like Ten thousand strong sound great with Tim and not so great with Matt.
i think Tim did a great job in iced earth. and i like this version of "Dracula". and i say that because i actually remember and enjoyed his time in Judas Priest. Tim takes the songs and puts the vocals in a different form. where Rob or Matt put more emotion into their singing. Tim Puts more anger into it. I see the Matt scream in "Dracula" as more of a pain and anguish. where Tim's scream sounds more of a pure rage and hatred of god for forcing the curse of vampirism on him.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Owen's just butchered a classic..fantastic. Oh wait, he's made a career of inferior singing and piss poor stage presence. I'm so glad Shaffer kicked him out
Um he did.. go buy the I Walk Among You single, it has Matt redoing the vocals of Setian Massacre. And they've done several other songs live since he's been back. Dracula is the best example: Matt has a voice that expresses emotion, Owens sings for the sake of singing. Props to Artica for making a similar point.
dude barlow has range. his high notes are nowere near as strong as ripper its clear that matts more comfortable with more low bassier singing. and he's got this sad tonaility in his voice which works for a lot of iced earth stuff. but i doubt matt would EVER be able to sing the ripper stuff as good as tim does. just because both singers have a completely different technique to appraoching notes.
why didnt he do Ten thousand strong on the single ? Framming armagaddeon The domino decree y wouldnt they try dose? Youll never here The red Baron live again or The reckoning. I like both singers and i dont think Barlow could pull those off.
one last question y do you hate on Ripper so much its ok if you prefer Barlow his a kick ass singer but y?
the high notes in this are amazing...i know im goin to get alot of negs for this but i wish ripper was still in this band i wouldve loved to see this lineup
Both singers are good , and it's ridiculous that people fight over who is better. They have totally different singing styles and are incomparable. It's like comparing Blaze Bayley and Bruce Dickinson , or John Bush with Joey Belladonna. People are always going to have their own opinions and fight with anyone who's opinion differs. Point is - this band kicks ass no matter who is singing.
Though Tims range is greater and higher, he still manages to make the high notes in this sound hideous. That's quite odd how that works out, isn't it?
well tim is getting some distortion on it, a la painkiller. it's a technique which you may not like, but be aware its a conscious choice that some people like. so basically if you dont like it, fine, but dont say it's because he's bad. you just disagree with his choice.
I actually think Tim Owens sings the song better than Barlow. Higher range by far! I am not sure I'll buy the upcoming Barlow albums (and I like Barlow) after I heard Tim Owens with Iced Earth.
dude when u sing like that, u can do w/e u want. barlow couldn't do that cuz he was straining his ass off to hit schaffer's damn high notes. not time for air guitar when ur throat is shredding.
Yea, it's not like Barlow has a four octave range or anything, watch Alive in Athens, I don't see a whole lot of straining on Travel in Stygian or Path I choose
barlow is a baritone. tim is not. so the styles cannot be teh same and tehy cant be good at the same things. barlows lows are great for creepy. teh old stuff he mastered. but tim has a fantastic mid tone and high range. he just hurts a little live, but recording wise i think tim is the better artist. barlow could recreate live better however. its a rough call.
you know, maybe im crazy, but wouldnt itve been just AWESOME if they kept BOTH singers? i dont know if thats possible but that wouldve been WAY cool and really interesting.
yes i just heard that the other day, it was cool. except for 2 things
1) he combined the two files which means the loudness of the instruments is times 2 but the vocals are like each still at 1. it makes them sound weak. minor gripe.
2) it would be SO MUCH COOLER if they actually WROTE parts for each guy, you know what i mean? thatd be cooler.
that is actually a excellent idea, in this video when barlow hits a high note, it sounds like a old fat lady singin in the shower wich cracked me up XD but thats just myopinion
After comparing them, I'll even go so far as to say that Jon changed the style up some when Tim came onto the scene.
But if you treat it as a different band(thus removing most preconceptions), it's actually quite good.
In my case, I got into Iced Earth after Tim was in it, but not because Tim was in it(thank Blind Guardian and Demons & Wizards for that one), so I really had no disposition towards Matt and could keep a more open mind about it.
Sorry for over-reacting. I just think that Tim's a bit under appreciated.
However, I friend of mine recently said that it's not Iced Earth with Tim, then he actually explained why.
With Tim's singing made for a meaner, heavier band, but at the same time, if you're used to Matt, you'd have a hard time adjusting to it. That's what my friend said. He's probably right.
It's good performance. I would say stop being a prick & give Tim a chance, but it's a little late for ungrateful little wankers like you to do that(since Matt's supposed to be coming back).
I'd hate to see how dead you guys would be if a more prominent metal figure had taken Matt's place(which, he chose to leave, btw.), such as Rob Halford or Phil Anselmo.
Tim's a good, hardcore metal singer. If you can't appreciate that, then that's your problem(one you won't have to deal with much longer).
Tim Owens is an amazing singer. So is Matt Barlow. Matthew is better, but Tim is still amazing. He blew me away with the Framing Armageddon and Glorious burden albums!
2.) A frontman should never play air guitar. Barlow gave so much energy to Iced Earth. Everything he did was badass beyond words. Iced Earth would be fucking perfect with Barlow back on the mic. Is there a God? Is he listening? Will Barlow ever return and restore the sheer ownage that Iced Earth is destined to be? Please?
this makes me cry. the greatest metal band of all time is reduced to this. iced earth is crippled with ripper fronting it. he is good on framing armageddon, but his downfall is he is a joke when singing pre-F.A. stuff. he sounds like a screeching goblin. =[
I like both Tim and Matt but this is a pathetic attempt at this song...

this makes me cry. the greatest metal band of all time is reduced to this. iced earth is crippled with ripper fronting it. he is good on framing armageddon, but his downfall is he is a joke when singing pre-F.A. stuff. he sounds like a screeching goblin. =[

Agreed, the melow part sucks so much with you Ripper, your bass notes are horrible. BARLOW RULES!
