@NinaaKid and @danawayviceroy Do you know anything about this sport? If a horse didn't enjoy what they were doing, they wouldn't do it! Trust me, a horse that's in top level dressage must enjoy what they're doing or they wouldn't be there! Besides, getting the head to flex like that is a skill, not torture!
Bitting the chest :( OK so it's no technically hyperflexion/ rollkur, and yes friesians are short in the neck, after all the are carriage bred, but the horses should be 'up to the bit' or 'forward to the bit'. This horse looks backward in the contact and the hindlegsare not underneath the thorax enough to propel him forwards into the hand. Shame
I know friesians have the neck they have, but that is no excuse for ridning this way at all - i've seen friesians been ridden with the nose a little in front of the vertical line, as you should at that level.
That looks so pretty and suits their thick neck so good!
L'étalon est magnifique ! Je ne dirais pas le contraire mais là il est enfermé entre deux paires de rênes, la ligne du dessus contractée, le dos creusé, ... C'est bien beau mais terrible pour ce beau cheval !
Look at the breed, this is often how they carry themselves. Also notice the position of his pole. He isnt overbreaking at all, his face remains flat., if he had a smaller neck it would be such a big deal. Its not like Anky's situation. Plus he's a stallion with a huge crest. Well. Very rythmatic and beautiful.
I think nobody here has ever ridden a friesian? A real! friesian? 'cause it's very hard to ride them on the bit on the vertical. Especially stallions have huge necks, what makes it even harder. The most Friesians walk behind the vertical, almost all the friesians do this. So it's not 'rollkur' or something like that.
I've ridden 2 or 3 friesians and they all got the same problem...
Well, look at how huge his neck is. When he flexes his poll, it's probably only natural that it's going to be close to his neck since it's so big. I do agree, that it's not as pretty, I'd like to see it let out more, but that's obviously how he flexes

wow, that doesnt look comfortable for that horse at all :S The neck is totally pulled together and the horse isn't relaxed any minute of the whole performance :/ Thats not what i call dressage, thats torture :(
@danawayviceroy Watch him at the freewalk and note that his head still stays very arched in to. He could stretch out more if he wanted to. It's just the way the Friesian is.
@danawayviceroy if you knew anything at all about friesians then you would know that well bred friesians have an extreemely high head carriage that, when collected, often causes them to look overbent. clearly you know nothing, so you really shouldnt be commenting on it..if this horse and rider were not doing proper dressage do you think they would be at that level?
@NinaaKid : I think you have to take the conformation of the horse into account as well, and Friesians are a very short-necked breed generally - but I tend to agree with you, it's not looking very comfortable for the horse - but then, is any dressage comfortable for the horse??? you gotta admit (much as I love horses, dressage and riding) it's not natural for THEM at all!!! :-)
@orsman167 - Completely agree. Dressage is no where near natural for the horse no matter how beautiful it is. The Friesian mare I used to board with held her neck and head like that most of the time and I doubt it was from her previous dressage career but rather her breed characteristics. None the less, a lot of hard work, skills, and beauty in the video!
Your babbeling about a few sec. A horse doesn't dies of e few sec. of Rollkur. Every rider, no matter how good they are, can't avoid riding in ''rollkur''.. If they were changing from trot to canter, the horse will ''rollkur'' for a sec (and probably many more examples)
I absolutely disagree! Learn your facts before commenting. A horse the is properly trained, you will never see them in the hyper flexion position. It is a discraseful way of "training". Friesians do have a higher headset and thicker necks but that does not mean they have to be hyper flexed during transitions!
Learn my facts? Have you ever seen a ''free'' friesian thats excited? (or whatever) They walk like this for themselves. Not as much as in a training, but it looks a lot like ''rollkur''.
And i've ridden quite some few friesians and its very hard to ride them on the vertical or before the vertical. Yes, it can be done, but its hard!
zoomie anyone who had a clue about horses would know that it doesnt hurt the horse at all. They are trained, bred, and used to that and horses have way different muscles than us. And also looking at how stupid you are being to think that the person who made this video is the person auctually riding the horse i think you are underaged for youtube and lied about your age.
hih, can anyone tell me what the name of song number 2 and 3 is? i really like them... and the horse. very nice, but the head is touching the chest... that's bad... and if u guys can't take, im criticize it, what can u then take ? life is not perfect ;)
Since when is disengaging the hind quarters, pulling the chin into the chest, hollowing the back and working muscles that are typically only used for swallowing any good? Rollkur is riding the horse front to back which is backwards, all horses should be ridden back to front, if they are their head will come down on its own accord without the need to pull on his mouth.
zoomie776, u dont know what ur talkng about. my horse LOVES to be worked like this and he cribs and stall weaves and is a grump if hes not worked! also having their head "pinned to their chest" is called a being on the bit and its a very natural placement of their head and it makes it easier for them to breath and move as it allows them to come underneath themselves with their hind end. The movements are very natural and dont come through force but through collection and the horses willingness.
most people think this looks nice i think its abuse you would not like it if some one pinned your head to your chest and you had to have some one on your back and ride around like that is not the naraol movement of a horse and its not what the horses bones are made for either it not the right place for abuse if you treat a horse like that look at what you are doing to this harmful animal that is just pure abuse
Ultimate tractor riding ..... nowdays dressage is basically treating horses like machine and pulling like maniacs as if they could feel nothing , this is one is all that . the poor horse is all cranked up , the good nature of these horses is such that they are very popular nowdays , as the sophistication of riders is gone , Friesans come handy , they do not protest and take the abuse better than most breed .... I want to vomit
eeek... it's not technically rollkur, but this is about as overbent as you can get. The horse's chin is actually touching the underneath of his neck at every stride. :(
Because of their high neck set, it's really easy to ride this breed of horse in this manner. I would like to give the rider the benefit of the doubt and hope that the horse was just overexcited and wound up... but it's a basic dressage principle that the neck should not be so restrained. :(
ohhh mannn bei der trabverstärkung ich mag gar net hinsehn eingezerre im maul das er jedes mal die fresse an die brust haut! sowas schlimmes rollkur pur kann nur sagen sogar im dressurviereck!!
