I don't understand the attraction to this guy. Today is the first time I heard of him, so I checked out his videos. His shtick is playing covers of great jazz performers. (Harry Connack Jr. did this brilliantly) Unlike Harry, every song Buble sings seems to be an inferior version of the original. Kinda like Pat Boone doing "Tutti Frutti" Buble is no Sinatra/BillyPaul/GeorgeMichael. He is a Boone.
He's mentioned in the past that he doesn't try to improve on the artists you mentioned (Sinatra, Billy Paul, etc.), because noone can. He tries to keep that type of music alive while giving it his own style. He's also a really good singer.
Now I would love to see a persons opinion based on an unbiased experience and probably use basic music theory to point out his flaws and how the original is superior OR just use common sense. It's a cover obviously it isn't going to be a mirror of the original if you wanted the original so bad why not go listen to it rather than listening to Micheal Bubles version?
@candyman567 I don't personally think he had any flaws, after all it is his own interpretation of the song and he is vocalizing it in his own style. I thought the climactic moment was done well, you can hear it in his phrasing and there was a bit of soulfulness to it as well. The original is more R&B in the instrumentation and vocal phrasing, and appropriate for the time it was released, and Buble's is more jazz-oriented and climactic with the 1/2 step rise, both are great renditions

Buble is more of a Big Band singer, this song doesn't necessarily have any R&B, even the original is a Soul song, which has it's own category as well. Fatboy Slim, on the other hand, is simply a DJ. His "talent" is in mixing and other such, he may do some of his own, buts he's basically cutting and pasting the same riffs and chords. Like his version of the song or not, He is brining a classic to a new generation. Billy Paul, Stevie Wonder, or Michael Buble, the song is just plain sexy.

@garcialovesme Wait.... isn't Fatboy Slim in an entirely different genre? Buble is more of a Big Band singer, this song doesn't necessarily have any R&B, even the original is a Soul song, which has it's own category as well. Fatboy Slim, on the other hand, is simply a DJ. His "talent" is in mixing and other such, he may do some of his own, buts he's basically cutting and pasting the same riffs and chords. I'm not saying he isn't talented, but isn't it a bit like comparing a car to a chair?

A musician (he used to play bass in The housemartins) and songwriter who, in various guises, has consistetly been at the forefront of British music since the mid eighties. So Lesson 2: No, it's not like comparing a car to a chair. Comparing a table to a truck is like comparing a a car to a chair. Comparing Buble to Fatboy slim is like comparing a Matt Damon (in team america voice) to Ian McKellan. Thanks for caring though!

To be honest it was good, but Billy Paul's original still takes the care, because Billy emphasizes the right points in the song, he emphasizes the parts in the song, incorrectly.
