Please be careful when going here. Stay with in the resort. Nassau is NOT a nice place. A lot of crime and they do pick on the tourist. The police is not much help. To much to say with no space so take this to hearth. Why are there so many rapes in Hawaii? You be surprised and it happens a lot.

I've been here before, the beach is beautiful, pristine water and exotic schools of fish swim around you...unfortunately, the people are quite poor outside of the resort and their is a dramatic contrast between the indulging tourists vs. island inhabitants that live in shacks or worse....

The majority of Nassauvians are middle/upper-middle income families that live in 3-4 bedroom homes and owns atleast 2 cars. So I don't know exactly where you visited to make such a sweeping generalisation, but it must not have been Nassau.
