  • How much would you charge to make me one?

I bend myself,...but just do not have the time.

I'd love to use this at one of my shows.

    EXCELLENT JOB!!!

I see 9 people are "jealous"...

  • should post a how to for this nice thing you have

  • That's sick! Where can you get that Karaoke machine to rewire it?

  • great device!!!

  • godly...

  • that sounds evil as fuck

  • damn i wish i could make it, i'm busy on my casio SK-1's bought 2 for 1,50 euro's xD i'm repairing 1 because it's broken.. I want to excercise on them, and then make some beautiful noises! ~ This vid is also inspiring!

  • short circuit your brain!

  • I love the housing you made from it!

  • @redepoch76 I LOVE IT!!!

  • woooooooooooaaaa this is a fucking bad ass trip

  • sounds like my cb mic on steroids.

plug that into my cb ppl would hate you.

    check out my video

  • i kind of just stumbled onto this......so could someone tell me what this is used for besides random noises and crazy arcade game sounds?

  • making music

  • @mooseums smoke a lot of pot and you'll get it.

  • @mooseums

wait, making weird noises and crazy game sounds isn't enough? It's all I ever wanted my toys to do ^^

  • @mooseums that's "what it does"! ;-) No more is needed

  • @mooseums - Most instruments that you buy now tend to either have a long learning curve or make the same category of sounds. Now that goes without saying that there aren't good instruments out there or that musicians aren't capable of learning to use them; but this offers some sounds to build music off of; dependent upon one's style of playing. Personally I would have turned some of these sounds into a techno song on their own! Great upload.

  • @mooseums Having fun

  • That box is total sickness....

I just received all my parts and am waiting on the Plasti-dip to dry on my enclosure before I start piecing one of these together.

Which Barbie IC is this? Gumdrop style or the other one you mentioned on your site? Sounds glitchy but also kinda pulses a bit too.

  • I haven't spotted this one up until now. It's a really really good machine. Massive range of sounds. And good sounds at that.

  • thanks, It's still my favourite, I use it all the time at gigs

  • @eddie23a hi, i am a keyboardist. recently i join with a reggae band. i have korg pa 2x pro. so, just want to know , that can i connect this to the keyboard? please reply me. thanx

  • I would definitely buy one of these.

  • Who the hell wouldn`t? This box sounds as beautiful as it looks.

  • Exelent!

  • Realy great! Almos VCS3 :) Use it with delay

  • amazingly perfect.

  • asmo, i wanna buy or build one... how much?

  • you should market them

  • yes please

  • _great_ sounds.

  • err, call me a dummy, until i can figure it out, how does this power stay on, with out holding a microphone button on... have to delve deeper...

  • ahoy, i've got a similar karaoke echo box from gpx, looks a bit like the barbie A board, bashed it a bit getting it out, but will wire that up... i wanted to ask on the tape input bit, are your input wires & body contacts on the same 3 connects? looks a bit like a plug in the back of a pc cd-rom/dvd-rom audio cable, standard i think... cheers!

  • how much would you give this up for?

  • epic machine, looks like it gives you a lot of control

  • thanks :) it's my favourite to play live, Like it so much I'm building another 2 with extra functions, used it rather a lot in this performance

    watch?v=5h8ScPndtZI

  • nice work matey, looks pro...

  • WOW, increíble... =D me gusta, me gusta mucho.

  • the suspense is killing me... amidst the semi-precious sound is the subliminal yet ultimately climactic crux of this film... what the hell is the unused gadget in the upper-left corner?? you artists and your unresolved tension... sequel!!! i want to see "attack of the killer upper-left corner monster (bride of echo destruktor)"

  • nice panel,

  • seriously, man, if it could be midi-triggered or synched (in a grid, eg per 1/4 or ... measures...) it would be zsuper nice!

--> dry sound when there's no midi instead of having to turn the mix-knob back...

  • 4:35 AWESOME.

  • i really dont understand..... whats so cool?.... i dont get what he was doing.

  • he's tweaking sound and frequencies to come up with some cool audio.

  • It is a creative technical repurposing of an otherwise useless piece of junk. In this case an electronic toy was modified to create a device that can be used to perform new and unexpected electronic sounds.

It is a great example of rethinking traditional electronic engineering and user interfaces, and doing so in an artistic way. Also it is recycling what may otherwise be waste, so it is green to.

  • I want one!!!!!

  • very nicely packaged. Great presentation.

  • Devo avere quest'apparecchio...

  • thats some awesomeness

  • Eddie,I know you said dont have time to do the actual build so I was wondering: Do you share/sell your schematics? If so, I would be very interested in borrowing/purchasing them. :D

  • Sorry, I guess I should have said Stu, not eddie.... my apologies.

  • ha ha, that's ok, I respond to Eddie too.

I've just updated the video description and added a link to the schematic I based it on.

  • eddie your an awesomely genious... *tears*

DONT EVER STOP IGNORE AVERYONE WHO TELLS U TO! AVERYONE CAN DO WHAT THEY WANT THEIR NEEDS TO DO!

    GO ON MAN! RESPECT!!!

  • he he! Thanks for the support, I appreciate it. It'll take more than a few haters to stop me, in fact I kind of see them as a challenge, makes me want to build something even more obnoxious :) after all ASMO stands for Anti Social Musik Ordder.

    cheers bro'

  • that looks down right sexy!

  • what do you use as body contacts other than thumbtacks?

  • split rivets (for leather work) and rubber grommets to isolate from the metal case

  • how much these go for?

  • and WHAT is asmo!!!?!?!?!

  • read my profile

  • o i see know, very cool

  • do you sell alot of your creations?

  • Occasionaly, I get a lot of requests but I don't have much free time to make them

  • hey eddie is there still a tape playing in it or is it pure bends?

  • just bends, I completely removed the tape mechanism.

  • where do the sounds come from?

  • it has an echo circuit in it, the bends make it feed back on it's self, some of the body contacts are connected to where the tape play head connects to the board which makes a buzz when you touch it, like right at the start of the video.

  • it picks up radio in certain configurations, you can hear a bit towards the end of the video.

    BBC Asian network mostly.

  • wow so its looped radio waves?

  • its a barbi karaoke machine put in a projectbox with amp outputs, looks like all u have to do is buy the karaoke machine and add the bends

  • how do i buy one?

  • All i can say: IT'S AMAZING

  • Damn I'd like to get one !!!

I would spend hours and hours on that "toy" !!!

It's exactly what i need to put a little bit chaos in my music.

Too bad you can't make/sell other copies, but great great great job anyway !!!!

  • I want the schematics like a baby requires rotten mice.

  • thats some awesomeness

  • ah cool fart machine!! hahaha

    naaa I really like it

    greetings

  • sound is so much fun

  • muy bueno :)

  • great bend man.....neat work too.

  • nice box...how can I get one?

  • NIce gabber kicks in the beginning. Venetian Snares would be proud!!!!

  • Great machine. It's got a very unique sound that stands out somewhat from what a lot of bent gear produces. I think i'll be hunting down a barbie machine to send wrong some time in the future. Keep up the good work :)

  • Love it! what is the loop part? som already made part?

    cheers.

  • no, it's all self generated, it's the echo circuit from a barbie karaoke machine, it does have an audio input but i'm not using it in this video, just feeding back on it's self. you can do some pretty mental stuff with it, highly recommended bend.

  • nice! didnt know those things hade echo function.

    thnx for reply.

  • Dope sounds, great bends!

  • From screwing with the Enterprise to stealing Area 51 technology?!! Eddie23a, you need to stop!!

  • hollllyyy shit i have to get one of these and bend it

    thats fucking great

  • badass

  • That is amazing man. any chance you could give us a look inside at the setup? if not it's completely understandable, but i'd love to build a parallel.

Keep up the great work man!

  • love it!

  • great stuff!

    continue your work!

  • very interesting.

  • think it needs some tweaking! looks nice tho

  • fucking awesome!!

  • Gabber!!!

  • Muy bien, buenas texturas, me gusta la parte final cuando se mezcla una señal de radio. Felicitaciones.

  • Great noises!

  • ma cos'è questa storia???

  • I love the contact points! How can it pick up radio signals? What an awesome noise sampler!

  • fantastic as always my friend.

  • nice, that's battery operated?

  • yes, it'll run off a 6v dc adapter too.

  • ah cool. is it safe to work with those adaptors?

  • well I haven't electrocuted myself or blown anything up yet! I only use adapters when the original toy used one, and give the circuit a good going over with a meter just to check there's no stray current being routed the wrong to the dc socket on the instrument. If you're not sure it's best avoided. Generally I use batteries as it's less cables

  • ah, good advice thanks.

  • not only are the sounds and the work great, thats just such a clean looking device. quality work, great job.

  • great circuit!!

  • amazing work - is that made entirely from JUST a Barbie Karaoke, or is there some kind of input?

  • yes, just the karaoke with the tape mechanism removed, I've added jack inputs connected to the tape in point on the board, although I'm not running anything through it in this video.

  • that's great. i've got a couple of those machines that i haven't cracked open much yet. this is definitely inspiring to try and tackle them again.

  • Have a look at casperelectronics dot com, there are schematics. I used them as a guide and found some of my own bends, there are loads of possibilities, i'm gonna build another with different bends. I gigged with it at the weekend, it's great for live improvisation, huge variety of sounds, this vid only scratches the surface of what it will do.

  • Holy crap! That's some delicious noise! And big lulz for the ability to receive radio!

  • ASMO, I will honestly do anything to get one of your projects. Ill make you guys music, movies, design a homepage, anything in exchange. But I dont have cold hard cash. My services for yours?

  • I'm flattered, thanks, my time is quite limited for bending, I wish I had more time for my own projects, and I never make the same thing twice, however I'm always happy to share tips and tricks. I'm working on a web site to document my work more fully with selected schematics which I hope to have online mid September.

  • What about any of your already finished projects?

    Whatever you need, man.
