I'm not a gymnast. But just looking at the trics where they do a handstand on the upper bar, and then swinging down and the stomach hit the lower bar. Isn't that extremely painful? I haven't seen anyone doing it in these days, it is forbidden or anything?

well , it is a little painful, you get used to it. it would be extemely difficult to do it since the bars are so far apart these days. so thats why you dont see it anymore.

I have read the bars were set in such a way that the gymnasts hips and thighs 'beat' on the lower bar in such a way that they could wrap around it. They got huge bruises on their hips and thighs of course but I guess got used to it over the years.

This is simply the most poinient, brilliant and deeply redolent of the 1970s video on youtube..............not sure if 'Jessykuh' meant it but it has layers of meaning that speak volumes. She should be making music videos and then feature films, an amazing triumph!

Today's gymnastic coaches freely admit that the levels attained by these girls in the 1970s will never again be reached. They were technically too advanced!

Comaneci and Tourischeva often threw down routines that were in fact floorless, scoring perfect 10s on all fronts, and from all judges! This is proof, if any were needed, that the human race is, in some ways, devolving.

a very nice montage ... somes me wonder sometimes... what happened to the sport ... when the gymnast had time to play on the aparatus .. no time to dance, capture the judges attention, and just be silly .. like olga ... like nadia .. silivas .. and many that came after them ... its soo rare to see a gymnast and to notice her passion for this sport ... but still gymnastics kicks ass!!

See I'd much rather see an old style uneven bar routine. They are so much more interesting than the newer uneven bar routines (which I find really boring), if a new gymnast would add the backhandspring off the highbar I would be so happy.
