I was born in Devizes, within the smell of the Brewery....(who wants to be born in the East End of London and be a Cockney, if you were born near such a brilliant and famous brewery)...
A recommended beer. Even travels well in the bottles now.
The guy doing this review either has had a few beers or struggled to remember some places in Wiltshire.....DONT give up the day job.... LOL
My "home" beer 6X, never used to travel well back in the old days, but a good, well kept draught takes some beating. Also try farmers glory if they still do it, but I haven't live in Wiltshire for 30+ years now, fond memories though.
@Saxymancan I live in Wales but my wife is from Bulford in Salisbury, one day we hope to move their but its so expensive. This beer is served on cask in the Blue Anchor pub in East Aberthaw. Google the place as it is a 11th Century Smugglers Inn, but the 6X their is spot on, cheers.
Just imagine enjoying a pint of this sitting on the bank of the Kennet and Avon canal, watching the boats going down the Devizes flight of locks! Cin-cin!
@Wineword AAAWWW dont Robin LOL, All I get here is " Imagine sitting next to Dow Corning on the Bendricks, drinking a can of Special Brew watching the fly tippers fill the dock with rubbish" LOL
Sounds amazing, maybe we will all go as a family one day, on that canal boat, cheers :)
@ChadzBeerReviews My wife moved to Barry as a teenager.. Wineword is her stepdad and brought her up, he is a teacher and was offered a very good job in Barry, so they moved here. Then he got offered a good position in Italy which he took years later, lucky fellow.
I mentioned this beer compared to Fullers ESB and Bombardier :) LOL
@TheMasterOfHoppets Awsome Peter, hope to see you review this one day, its a good beer, one that if I see in a pub, like the Blue Anchor that dates back to 1100!! I will always drink as I know its awsome on Cask, cheers mate :)

I love a good authentic British ESB. How does this compare to Wells Bombardier or Fuller's ESB?
What's go great about Wiltshire? How did you meet your wife there?

I thought it tasted a bit like boysenberry after the initial malt. Did you think the can tasted better than the bottle? (thinking back to Hobgoblin)
rothkowitz 10 months ago
@rothkowitz I have not had this in the bottle unfortunatly, only can and cask, the cask is better naturally but the can was very good, cheers :)
