It wasnt cause we waited till the last minute it was like that during the whole election. Waiting from day one. The choice of where we could vote was very limited in some parts of fla.
this is fuckin redicolous...american politicians should spent less money on their fuckin pop star campaigns and make sure every citizen is able to vote without much effort...meaning close by voting locations and if only little waiting time...how many people wont show up today just because theyre too lazy...sry this is silly
It is voter suppression when it takes 5 hours to vote in a city and 15 minutes to vote in the suburbs.
Nobody wants to wait. More importantly, many people won't/can't wait. It is an unfair advantage given to voting blocks of citizens who don't have that dilemma.
Sometimes in life you have to wait in line. People are basically selfish and they don't want to wait. You see them at the grocery store etc. They will shop for 2 hours and expect to check out in less than a minute. They complain & say things like "they need to open more registers", "If I ran this place it would be different","This is ridiculous" These idiots have never held a leadership position in their entire lives much less owned a business. Idiots can usually believe its someone else fault.
I feel sorry for you Americans. We in Canada still use paper ballots, more reliable way to count votes. In my town polling stations are in public schools. We had our federal election last month. No line ups. Employers have to give their employees time off to vote, that's the law. Doesn't anybody complain to their state rep or whoever is responsible for the voting process?
I am from the UK. We have paper based election processes that have worked well for over 100 years. I have voted in many elections and have never had to wait more than 5 minutes. Usually there are just a couple of people in front of me. We normally vote in school halls or village halls. The scenes coming from the USA are astonishing and are embarrassing for a developed country.
chowmikki, pity is a really vulgar expression, but where I live in the US, I am also designated to go to the local school, and my employer also legally has to let me go. I've never waited more than 20 min. in line. It's different in different towns. And now, the masses have been frenzied into a false sense of wakefulness, and they are stampeding the voting arena because they were told something revolutionary was going to happen- what this is, I don't know, but your right about paper ballots.
Seriously.... in this day and age.....This year I used an Absentee Ballott....even though I live in rural Montana! We need to do more to help out citizens cast their vote, and not deal with this kind of chaos!!! Good for them, though!!
We have the same laws here and the same polling places too as well as in churches. And if you are in line even at closing time you are supposed to allowed to vote. Here in Arizona they are staying open as long as there are voters in line.
one day, a boy and a girl named andrew and savannah were walking in the park together, little did they know a killer was behind them. they stopped under a tree and kissed, then the killer raped them, shot them, then slit their throat. then, he buried them in a hole he had dug earlier. now that you have read this andrew and savannahs ghost will be by your bedside with a knife in their hand and rape you unless you post this on 10 other videos in 2 miniute
This is a joke right? You all are surprised at this? Lets think about it real fast. Drive around your town for about an hour and count up all the government buildings you think would make viable polling stations. Now figure out how many volunteers you need to run each station, and how many you actually have. Now take the number of stations you can run effectively, and cram every person trying to vote in your district in there.
OMG, Voter suppression.....Oh Wait. This isn't Election Day, it's only early voting. I have to wait in long lines every time I vote, so instead of complaining about intimidation -LOL- I get there early so I can get my vote in.
Most working people and/or people with children or other family responsibilities do not have hours at their disposal to stand in line, waiting to vote. Thus, they must give up their right to vote in order to earn their living and/or take care of their family. We should not have to choose between the two!
First things first, this is early voting, not the actual election day. They are not giving up their right to vote if they didn't get here in time to vote this day. Election day is around the country and polling places will be open. If you know there will be lines, get there early. That's what I have to do every time but I do it. Second, There is NO constitutional RIGHT to vote. The constitution only states that no one can be barred from voting based on race, gender, or age if 18 or older.
They are being suppressed in the way that they are deliberately being intimated into hours of waiting in line. Why cant they just open up a few more colleges? Let us not remember the drama in Florida every election times roles by. Florida as many others are; check them out its like a decease.
Jeb Bush step down since his brother did not need his help getting elected again...coincident? I don't think so.
It will take some time to get the messed up voting process sorted out there. Hopefully they come up with a national mandate to have all states use the same process and decided on how to protect the process (whatever they chose) from tampering. It would be much easier to train everyohe on the same system.
BTW this country is how old and we still have issues like this?
You're complaining about America -- try this one on for size. Italy has national elections and a re-written constitution about twice A YEAR. Stop whining.
You know what the difference is between openly changing policies and a goverment doing whatever in the hell they want behind closed doors. Throwing in loop holes, earmarks, and deliberately misinturpting and twisting laws to fit thier agendas are?
None- there is no difference...the end result is the same.
Philadelphia 2008 primaries, University City. I have to register as Republican to vote Ron Paul though I'm independent. Poll worker announces loudly that I'm Republican. Other voters and poll workers boo. I go into the machine to vote on the Republican ticket, and the machine only allows votes for Democratic candidates. I finally have to get someone to "fix" the machine. They claim I was the only Republican voting that day so far so all the machines were set up at default for Democrats.
fuckmenow9:If that's true...then that also is wrong. The difference is that this is the FIRST time i have heard such a "story". And i watch/listen to 5 hours of news a day. I suggest you bring proof to the table so we can fix that "issue" also. Otherwise STFU!
Let me tell you about real election fraud: Philadelphia 2004, Society Hill voting precinct. Poll worker goes with me into the machine to "show me how to use it." Presses "vote Democrat straight ticket" to demonstrate, and then resets the machine for my vote. Every poll worker is wearing a John Kerry t-shirt and button.
How are long lines at 5 PM voter suppression? Who's suppressing your vote? Perhaps you should have woke up early and went before work. Perhaps you should volunteer to man the polls. Nearly every precinct claims they lack volunteers.
Not providing facilities for people to vote is voter suppression. Simple math dictates that there were not enough facilities for the people that turned up to vote to actually vote. Hence the large lines at 5pm.
Your story about a republican not being on the ballet sounds rather silly and made up. People probably booed you because you were still waring you Klan outfit. You should take it off this time.
Yes, I just make shit up to entertain you. Besides, I don't think the Klan would accept me as I'm not white. Furthermore, the machines in my precinct are electronic. They have separate programs for Democrat and Republican voting for the primary as one can only vote in the primary in which they are registered. In my precinct, all the machines were set up for the Democratic ticket unless someone specifically asked for them to be changed. That's a fact.
Hopefully this election suppression doesn't result in these same lines for bread next year!
STAY in line people. This is your constitutional right, if your employer fires you, I'm sure that you can take them to court and maybe just maybe you won't ahve to work at all anymore. JK
Eight years have passed and Florida elections still suck. My theory is that the closer you are to the equator, the more corrupt and incompetent your elections officials are.
