  • the best...

  • Omg this was astonishing

  • Whether playing Paganini or Michael Jackson, Alex DePue is Astonishing!

  • Comment removed

  • 68 petty jealous volinists disliked this, because unlike Alex DePue, they aren't Grand National Fiddle Champions or touring and recording with Steve Vai, or opening for YES, or playing with Joe Satriani! Youtube cracks me up with these petty jealous little crappy people. Not one of the 68 people that hit dislike can tell you why Pac's Cannon is difficult to play, much less play it as well as Alex DePue... And TerryOWah is the biggst WannaBe on the planet! This DePue guy crushed it!!!!

  • that asian guy in the end is epic

  • smooth criminal animal ant farm or michael jackson dunno

  • amazing

  • i play violin and im NO WHERE NEAR to how good he is lol

  • awsome violinist best iv'e ever heard

  • Ya. Best.Violinist.Ever.

  • THATS AMAZING.....I PLAY VIOLIN BUT IM NOT THAT GOOD!

  • I love this!

  • i can play billion air on violin i upload it and you will see. ive only been playin 2 monyhes

    \

  • can anybody please tell me which songs he covered?

  • @SNabil12 Owner of a lonely heart, smooth criminal.

  • anybody else doing air violin to this?

  • I challenge you to a contest buddy! I can take you on!! oh yeah thats right.... I can play JUSTIN BEIBER!!!!!! SO HAH!

  • @5onfivebball so what if u can PLAY justin whatever nobodys gonna like it anyway :p

  • @Slayerpisko Alex DePue was regarded as a prodigy in a family of superior violinists. His brothers are the first chair of the Philadelphia Philharmonic and fist chair and concert master of the Indianapolis Symphonies. Maybe you have superior violin skills to the top symphony players in the U.S. My original comment was that Alex is a superior violinist, so pull your head out of your #@$%, You have not made a single argument to refute these. You are the king of red herrings!

  • @gummygirl05 I'm not a violinist, first of all, and I have no idea why that would take away my right to say that he is not the best in the world. I have not made a single attempt to refute the claim that he's very good because I honestly think that he's really very good. The claim I don't agree with is that he is the best violinist in the world. Ehm...I'm not quite convinced that you know what the phrase 'red herring' means.

  • @Slayerpisko The international fiddle championships held in Idaho have been regarded as the top fiddle competition in the world for decades. Your argument of why should it count is like saying The World Series doesn't have the best baseball teams or the World Cup of Soccer doesn't have the best soccer teams or the Super Bowl doesn't have the top football teams. My original post was in response to some idiot that said Alex Depue sucked, when he has back-to-back Grand Ntl titles.

  • Comment removed

  • @gummygirl05 Obviously, they don't really have fiddle competitions outside USA since fiddling is an old American art (though there are similar styles across Europe). The NATIONAL (NOT international!!) Oldtime Fiddlers' Contest, ID, is NOT World Cup, got it? It's a fiddling competition, first of all, so you're arguing something like ''the team that wins Russian Superleague is the best hockey team in the world'' and that's a fallacy (there are at least NHL and other leagues and then World Cup).

  • i am the ownder of a broken heart, cuz the smooth criminal got the other 1

  • is slayerplsko talking to himslef?? XD

  • @a110075 No, I just had more to say than YT allows in one comment, so I continued this way so that it's clear which follows which.

  • haha, using a “?" will make every heading reasonable.

  • what is the URL???

  • i think the secret is in the long hair

    david garrett has it too

  • I've played violin for 16 yrs. I love this guy

  • Making unusual sound and playing in a "funky" manner does not make you the greatest (?) but maybe a contender for the "trickiest". He would need to play the cadenza from Beethoven's Violin Concerto to see (hear) if he is any good at all!

  • 2:00 someone shat a brick O.o

  • @Mrphe3000 hahaha your funnny!

  • THAT IS SOOOOOOO SO SO SO SO SO EPIC AND MICHAEL JACKSON O_O OMG!!!

  • This guy needs to be on stage with vanessa mae

  • hats off:)

  • Alex is definitely the best violinist out there.

  • @MegaJohnnyGuy over Joshua Bell? I say there is no best.

  • Comment removed

  • I wish i could play this.... but really, not so sure he is the BEST, but VERY GOOD

  • @jomarantolinbuy Way to go tangent man. First you post Alex DePue isn't any good or even amongst the best, and tell us about how great you play. Then when everyone points out Alex's accomplishments, you quickly retreat to "what about these other great violinists!" Get a life loser. No one said Heifetz wasn't any good. When you realized you were wrong and Alex had props you couldn't dispel. You try to change the subject. If you are so much better than Alex, post your playing or shut the #@%& up!

  • Beautifull

  • GUYS NUTTIN BUT STRINZ IS BEAST! SEARCH THEM!!!! O;

  • Well.. there are a lot of great violinist that have not been recognized. Surely alex depue and samvel yervinyan are not the best violinists out there. Yeah they are great but there are violinists that are as great and maybe greater. I play the violin myself.. for 6 years now and this pop song is just a variation of techniques such as spicatto bowing and the like. Yeah i can play it... but not as good.

  • @jomarantolinbuy It's great that you own a violin, but you are fact challenged! Who are these better violinists that never show up to the intll fiddle championships (dueling division)? Why has Alex won it all 2 years straight? The arrangement here is genius, not that you can struggle through it. Steve Vai thinks Alex is the best violinist in the world: /watch?v=IYXGSh81Kgg If Alex isn't among the top in the world, why is he ranked in the top 10 each year & why has no one beaten him for 2 years?

  • @gummygirl05 Alex is great but there are a lot of great violinists out there playing in orchestras and the like. People, like you, are too ignorant to recognize these because you do not indulge in classical music. And if you do like classical music... why be biased about alex dupue when there are greater artists, even kids that rated 100% in their practicals (which is near impossible), out there. By the way, just because "Steve Vai" said it, its already true.

  • @jomarantolinbuy Have you ever heard Alex play any of the most taxing of the classical pieces...the Pach etc or do you even know about the most difficult pieces? His brothers are the first chair/concert master of the Philadelphia Philharmonic & of the Indianapolis Symphony...and Alex is the star of his family of stars & was a child prodigy. What symphony are you the first chair/concert master of? None EXACTLY! Alex is among the world's very very best! You have an opinion without any knowledge!

  • @gummygirl05 you keep on insisting alex is the greatest? do you?

    Itzhak Perlman

    Mairead Nesbitt

    and some others

but these guys are just as great and i think perlman is better to be honest cause of his tone and precision.

    google em up. ignorant bitch

  • @jomarantolinbuy Unfortunately no one in the world was able to beat Alex in 2010- 2011 (dueling division), so the point of your argument is irrelevant. Whenever anyone resorts to name-calling, they have lost the argument! What is the point of saying this person is just as good, when they weren't the ones that won the intl competitions? It's like running up to the person that just won the gold medal at the Olympics and saying, this other person is better! Who cares! They didn't win!

  • @jomarantolinbuy I played in an orchestra in which he played Saint Saens very well to say the least. Afterwards he fiddled the crowd to their feet. So really, you know what you're talking about before posting.

    Also, you forgot Heifitz. . . .

you might want to take your own advice. . . . ;)

  • @BetaFisheta im comparing itzhak to alex.. read

  • @jomarantolinbuy Use logic dumb ass... No one ever said there weren't better violinists in history or other great violinists. Your entire argument is one gigantic straw man fallacy! You criticized Mr. DePue for supposedly not being amongst the best in the world. I merely pointed out that on the day of the National Fiddle Championships the past two years, no living violinist from the best on the planet could beat Alex. Only an insecure idiot would not give a 2-time grand national champion props!

  • @gummygirl05 Speaking of logic, are you sure the contestants in the Fiddle Championships are the best violinists? How exactly have you arrived at such a conclusion? Are the contestants in Pop Idol the best singers in the world? Is the Miss Universe winner the most beautiful woman on Earth? How is it that each year, the past winner always gets a bit uglier so that there can be another winner? What if there are other women/violinists more beautiful/that are better who just didn't audition?

  • @Slayerplsko I can't get rid of that feeling that we're missing something in the fiddle contest. Perhaps non-fiddler violinists? Fiddle contests are about ''oldtime fiddling'', that is, American traditional music, right? So by definition, jazz violinists don't count, Arab violinists don't count, classical violinists don't count. Also, why would someone who already is respected worldwide, perhaps even considered among the best, need to participate? Why would Itzak Perlman, for instance, need to?

  • @Slayerplsko Another thing, there are countless violin contests around the world, why just this one counts? Why is it this one tiny fiddle contest that marks who is the greatest in the world? Why not the Intl. Tchaikovsky VC, or Jacques Thibaut Intl. VC or any other? I think I don't even need to go into why audience vote or judges vote don't, perhaps, necessarily represent the most objective, reliable judgments. Don't take this as an attack, it's just an expansion on your mention of logic.

  • @Slayerplsko Unfortunately for you Mr. Depue has won both (Audience & Judges Awards-which is from highly regarded master violinists) Your anti-logic seems to be that the judges & audience awards from people there do not matter, but that your opinion does (someone not even there)! If you had even a faint clue about the Fiddle Championships in Idaho, you would already know of its international reputation. Your comments bear a plenum of proof to both your arrogant ignorance!

  • @gummygirl05 Unfortunately for you, Alex has twice won either Judges or Viewers Award (2008 & 2010) in Twin Division - twin means together with another fiddler (Sedra Bistodeau). He was never NOFC's Grand National Champion. I never said that their opinion doesn't matter and mine does, so please, don't accuse me of such things, alright?

  • @Slayerpisko Why is the Olympics or World Cup of Soccer highly regarded? Because over time they have earned a reputation. If you take exception to the Fiddle Championships in Idaho, you are dismissing the same reputation. If you knew anything about fiddling, you would know that this one is the most highly regarded. If you have even a meager understanding of the violin, you would appreciate the skill set needed to be a first chair or concert master of a top world symphony. You are clueless!

  • @gummygirl05 NOFC is not about ANY violin playing, but only about ONE STYLE. It is not World Cup, can't you understand this? Why are you rambling about his brothers in the (second to) last sentence?

  • @Slayerpisko Your gigantic ego surely thinks that you know more about music and performing music than the legendary Steve Vai or Joe Satriani. Here's what Steve Vai had to say about Alex DePue: /watch?v=IYXGSh81Kgg Let me know the next time Steve Vai falls to his knees and thanks god for your talent! You probably are a master of playing parallel 3rds, 4ths and fifths in perfect pitch on the viollin. You doubtlessly get asked to perform Britten & Ligeti at Wolftrap too. Get a #@$%ing clue

  • @gummygirl05 My gigantic ego blabla?? Jesus, are you trying to set some king of a record for the largest number of fallacies in one YT comment? I completely agree with what Steve said in that video. He didn't say Alex was the best violinist in the world, right?

  • @Slayerplsko My original comment was in response to someone that said Mr. DePue sucked. I pointed out that he gets asked to play the most difficult violin pieces ever written for the top symphonies in the world, has back-to-back Grand National Fiddle Championships. Steve Vai calls Alex the best violinist he has heard/played with. Your non-sequitir comments about Miss Universe or refuting a Universal Affirmative mean nothing. Nothing you can say will take away consecutive Grand National Titles.

  • @gummygirl05 Emmm geesh gummygirl, you really get carried away when people disrespect your idols lolz. But i agree with you, the man is epic in all regards. 2CELLOS need 2 people to play the same amount of notes he does rofl

  • Comment removed

  • @gummygirl05 Wrong. Your original comment was a reply to jamarsomething, who said ''Alex is great but there are a lot of great violinists out there playing in orchestras and the like.'' I don't knwo how your brain could interpret this as ''Alex sucks''. Steve Vai calls him the best violinist he's heard/played with? Where? Source? Consecutive Grand National titles? Which ones? In what contest? And how does it contradict my claim that he's not the best violinist in the world?

  • @jomarantolinbuy Get a life and go back to posting negative crap on Justin

Bieber's song like all of the other jealous dweebs!

  • @jomarantolinbuy wow, you DO NOT know your performers do you???? there are many great violinists who are recognized!!!

    heifetz

    stern

    perlman

    midori

    etc

  • I love how DePue plays all four parts of 'Owner Of A Lonely Heart' at once... very, very creative and simply a brilliant arrangement. I can't wait to see Depue playing with YES at Humphreys Concerts By The Bay on August 4th, 2011 in Sandy Eggo!! Howe, Squire, White and DePue is going to be an epic night with Legendary musicians!

  • @Terryowah What is remarkable about Alex's Lonely Heart's arrangement is that he's playing the rhythm and melody parts at the same time. You might want to check out this interview with Steve Vai about Alex DePue. I'd say it's safe to say Vai's a bit better at music than you and your giant ego: /watch?v=IYXGSh81Kgg I guess in your world all international champions suck and aren't worthy of the amazing Terry... Check & mate my insecure friend!!! Let me know when you become Grand National Champion!

  • No.

  • Please I need to know the name of the song the mans playing.

  • @Merrik11 Smooth Criminal

  • greatness is what anyone thinks, I think he's great because of the surprise factor

  • @ 2:01 Someone's jaw dropping

  • @terryowah Get aquainted with the english language friend. I suggest you read the title again. Maybe you should also google "?".

  • @markmoz even to suggest that he is the best is crazy talk...he's amazing don't get me wrong. Listen to Ruggiero Ricci's recording of "God Save the Queen" by Paganini...He is in a completely different universe than Mr. Depue.

  • @markmoz the man made a point, you just hated like a little bitch -.-' proper english shouldn't be more important then making a solid point... great violin playing btw

  • @terryowah Alex DePue won the dueling division of the 2010 US Intl Fiddle Championships (Judges Award) & the 2011 US Intl Fiddle Championships (Audience Award). The US Fiddle championships are regarded as the top competition in the world! Steve Vai got down on his knees & kissed the ground after auditioning DePue. Tonight Alex is taking the stage with Steve Vai & Joe Satriani, who consider DePue the best rock violinist in the world. Maybe you are a better musician than Vai or Satriani?

  • Comment removed

  • @terryowah Alex defeated all international violinists to become Grand National Champion (2010 Judges Award & 2011 Audience Choice), so if Alex wasn't the best in the world, how did he beat all of the best & why has Alex been ranked in the top ten in the world for the past decade? Alex's brothers are the first chair and concert masters of The Philadelphia Philharmonic & Indianapolis Symphonies. YES just asked Alex to open for them in San Diego. YES, Vai, SAtriani...Who are you playing with Terry?

  • @terryowah I'm sitting at soundcheck at House of Blues in Hollywood listening to Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, Steve Lukather and Alex DePue throw it down! Simply put: They are four of the best living musicians on the planet! And you Terry O Wah are a jealous tool!! Get a life! Nothing you can say will take away all of the Grand National, International titles or great music that Mr. DePue has made! Let me know the next time the New York Met wants you to be guest soloist?

  • he's amazing, but..... i cant stop looking at his hair all jiggling like that

  • Freaking awesome!

  • WHO IS THIS?????

  • @MetalChica7 Alex Depue

  • is this even humanly possible to do lol

  • he must have one killer wanking arm

  • This guy is without a doubt a great musician, but the world's greatest? Really?? There are 10-year-old kids out there that can smoke this guy!!

Itzhak Perlman is probably the greatest living violinist.

  • @elvisatemydonuts I know there's skilled 10 year olds, but I think Alex was also tearing up the classical scene at that age before he went into fiddling. And while I love Perlman, and agree Alex lacks the crystalline polish that the absolute best concert violinists have - he also has a demonstrated compositional ingenuity, musical improvisational talent, and innovative ways of playing the instrument. Perlman hasn't.

It might be more accurate, then, to say Alex might be the greatest fiddler.

  • Itsac Pearlman is the best.

  • @MrLuke506

Then why can't you remember how to spell his name?

  • Comment removed

  • Not even close.....

  • HE is Great but no is the best....for me the best is JAscha HEifetz....in actual is Shlomon Mintz!

  • goddamn great, dude....

  • @EvyStevens it's kinda back and fourth between smooth criminal and owner of a lonely heart throughout i believe

  • @EvyStevens not completely sure, but i think it's owner of a broken heart by the band yes.

  • @Dangit2019

Owner of a lonely heart. You were close.
