this system is sucks compare even to the drapa system or the iron fist system but trophy system is the big winner /watch?v=YGF7x3TVNCQ&feature=relatedr
Trophy is way better, but Raytheon sued and was awarded preferential treatment because the law says we have to favor US companies, no matter whose product is better.
Now instead of getting the well-tested Trophy at a good price from Rafael now, we get to wait two years (minimum) before Raytheon will have any fieldable units. God knows how long it'll take them to work the bugs out so it doesn't go off when a bird flies by and wipes out a squad of friendly infantry.
@SilentEagles The pentagon has already tested this system and found that trophy is better in every way which is way trophy light way chosen as the US army's APS
@SilentEagles The only thing that 'FAILS' here is your comment writing skills,I went back to your channel and found out you were American which makes your incapability to master the English language both surprising and funny,I also noticed you're a CoD kid which was less surprising. The video that you sent me basically confirms that the US army was full of shit about Trophy and nothing more.US Tests in 2010 confirmd the data that Rafeal provided and disproved once and for all the armies claims.
@SilentEagles As of today trophy has been in service for three years and saved two Israeli tanks from ATGM hits, how many lives did FCS quick kill save? The only thing that stood between Trophy and saving American lives was a stupid law that said that the army sould always choose the American product when given a choise even if the American product in not ready yet.Quick kill is way behind sechual and no one knows when it will be ready.
When Quick Kill active protection system go operational. US Army and Marines going put Quick Kill active protection system on M1 Abrams, M2 Bradley, Expeditionary Fighting Vehicles, all Strykers variants, M1117 Guardian, Grizzly APC, Buffalo, Caiman, RG-33, Cougar, MaxxPro, Oshkosh M-ATV, & other war machines on the ground. Any RPG & Anti Tank Missiles are going be useless.
and so will any men standing next to the tanks at the time. after the quick kill system has killed a few civilians or friendlies, I don't think it'll be on tanks for long.
@raspberrypirate I think the civvies and soldiers are smart enough not to hang out next to tanks anyway. It's not like this would do any more damage to the surrounding area than a direct hit. If you're a civvie in a war zone, and you're standing next to a tank, you deserve to get lit the fuck up.
@raspberrypirate Hail the American Military Industrial Complex. Sometimes it produces genius, and sometimes it produces narrow-minded xenophobic crap. Somebody ought to tell the US military that 75% of their rifles and machine guns are already made by FN, a Belgian company.
@Bullzeye95 wrong. FN is a global company and half of their product is made right here in USA. I can walk in any gun store and by at least 10 models of pistols, long rifles and small calibers rifles with FN logo, made in USA. However I would not as a find their product overpriced and of sub-par quality.
if any civilians were next to the tank in the first place... which is unlikely due to the fire fight, and friendlys probably would've been hurt by the RPG going off nearby anyways.
I was thinking about that Raytheon should built a mini THEL (tactical high energy laser) with radar detection scanning around 360 degree looking for incoming RPG & ATGM. Also scanning on the ground for IED & Land mines. I think a mini THEL is better than Quick & Kill because you don't need to reloaded again you just kept firing vaporize Rockets, Missiles, IED, & Land mines. I would fit THEL on helicopter, APC, AIFV, IFV, & Tanka aka MBT.
Nice for COIN, but in a high-tech environment it becomes rather dicy. The russians already are developing an RPG with an anti-APS: It fires a smaller projectile directly ahead of the real rocket to simply draw the fire.
What explosion? Both the decoy and the FCs are kinetic projeciles. The FCs projectile would likely shred the decoy, just to have those shreds hit the vehicle, shortly followed by the real warhead.
More to the point, (Because my wording in the last comment sucked.) the main kill mechanism of QUick Kill isn´t the explosion, it´s shrapnel. Agianst which that decoy would provide ample protection.
What destroys the first warhead is a direct hit from the projectile, the resulting shrapnel from the blast combined with the extreme heat from the explosion would most likely set off the second round. It would probably work against the TROPHY system though :)
Not likely. Not likely at all. Simply put, the distance between decoy and actual projectile is too big as that it would even get that much in the first place and that´s very unlikely to trigger it.
Thats true. Also I don't think that this would work against multiple rockets heading toward it. Also this could pose a danger to troops that are around the tank. I don't think that this is a suitable replacement for armour.
Since getting back from my first deployment I've been telling my friends that fighting the US military is like fighting Martians.
The amazing thing is that the gap between ourselves and any present or future enemy keeps widening -- and the rate of increasing disparity is growing.
Now to those who think we're weak and worthless without the tech advantage -- do you think people who are brilliant/dedicated/focused enough to develop these weapons magically go to shit at bayonet time?
LOL. This probably won't mean anything to you, but in reply to your "Apology accepted, Captain Needa" comment, I had that line stuck in my head the entire day today
As to the comment about fratricide... well, any dismount who hangs around an AFV is a goddamn idiot. Tanks draw fire. They're big, noticeable, and will draw attention to anyone standing nearby. Dismounts SHOULD already be trained to expedite away from their carrier, and if they're not already doing it, maybe having this nearby will give them some incentive to smarten up a bit. Besides, it's no worse than ERA, which is already in widespread use.
Astaroth... ok, you're kind of an idiot. Yes, you can defeat it with what is known as volley fire. However, while 200 RPG29s may defeat it, they are NOT cheap, and you need 100 blokes to carry them in. That's a not insignificant commitment of combat power. If one vehicle can now pin down or defeat 100 dismounts, I call that a victory. Not to mention, if you think 80-90 dead RPG gunners vs 3 dead crewmen and $9 million is a victory, you're a fool.
i agree, I'm not an expert, nor do i have any experience but recognise the sacrifices made on our behalf. 200rpg's are for the apache, in mogadishu, urban, windows, rooftops (scattered). 20 rpg's (lebanon, rural, hidden bunker,cache,4 guys) for the AFV.price of the 29's is 300-500 dollars, plus the russians would gladly give to anyone that's willing to give the usa or allies trouble e.g hizballah.if the awesome weapon above was mass produced, made cheap and easy to deploy it's curtains for the enemy.
awesome... trouble is - the 'enemy' has 1000's of cheap rpg's. Hizbollah tactics are to use 100's on a tank in one go. Same rules with helicopters - if i have a 1% chance of taking it out i'll use 200 rpgs and stack the odds in 2-1 in my favour. cheap as chips rpgs 200 rpg-29s (750mm penetration 'era' defeating tandem warhead) = 60,000 dollars. 1 apache = 18 million. 1 merkavh = 4 million. 1 abrams = 9 million. loss of 200 rpg's negligable. loss of tank or helicopter = loss of battle advantage.

That rocket launched, aimed, and hit the RPG, which is a rocket propelled grenade. It is an effective way to defend against explosives fired at defenses.
yes, ill try. the counter-explosive is fired from the fixed position. In the slow motion you see the counter-explosive fire its 3 corrective thrusters before exploding. It explodes in the direction of the incoming RPG, thus rendering it useless, and dissipating the blast from the RPG, with the counter-explosive.
this wouldve been nice to have on vehicles in Iraq. And, i wonder if it works on Mortar Rounds as well?

I have the same question about this that I do Arena and Trophy. Will it stop a weapon that has a top attack mode like the Javelin?
Obviously most irregular armies will not be able to afford this system, but it's still a viable threat to any major army.
