  • Familly Computah!

  • is a transformah!!! holy shitttoooo!!!

  • It's like the improved nes!

  • Famiri konpyuta dishku shistemu ftw

  • :O *buys*

    Japanese Zelda FTW!

  • reecome?

  • FAMILY COMPUTA XD

  • Disco systemu XD

  • on the past they got good games on 1mb or less

today we got games on 30 gb or more

  • 0:04 family computa :)

  • I like how he says Famiry Compyutaaaa

  • Fameelee Compuutaah Disku Systemu!

  • i didint know that they had dig dug for the famicom!

  • How come japan gets all the add-ons? And why do they never release them to the US? They didn't give us the Disc System for the NES, the Sattelaview for the SNES, or the 64DD for the N64, even though our systems were ready to go for them.

  • This honestly proves that nothing, including the Xcox, is considered to be better than this.

  • lol it was released in the same day and month of my birthday

  • Floppy disks making cartridges obsolete? Lies. All the games on the FDS became very popular when it came out in the States and Europe and Australia.

  • Famaree caumpootah!

  • This commercial was seen in old times !

  • Ah Famicom you were ahead of your time.

There's one thing that's puzzled me, why haven't they made a game for Diskun, it's iconic enough as much as ROB even. Nowadays the Disk System is barely remembered.

  • 0:20 FAMILEE COMOPUYUTA

  • I have to ask, what exactly does the disc system do that you can't get with the regular system?

  • @jackbrokeheart

    - a sort of FM-Syth. Sound Chip + Stereo Sound

    - up to 128k Rom space (for that time, it was much more than modules can)

    - ability to save Games

    - cheaper price and rewritable

  • i might be getting one of these soon! ^_^

  • 15000yen???

    thats like $150! WTF?

  • @kiko232 $150 for a floppy drive, what a deal!

  • that's actually not that bad of a price considering the time it came out.

  • well the console itself would cost like what 20000 yen? might as well be its own console

  • Well there was a version that had both the disk system and the main famicom in the same system. It was called the Fami-twin and its quite rare.

  • so the disk system is an accessory to the famicom?

  • so wats the poin you still using like cartuche

  • you can save games

  • dude O_O Thats actually really interesting.

  • Lies. This is JAPANESE! Only Dr. Ein and the Jetters using it. My animes does not enough to shoot it.

  • haha no, this was earlier

  • Except this came out before the Sega CD/Mega CD, before the Sega Genesis/Mega Drive, before the Super Nintendo. This was in the 80's.

The "answer" to the Sega CD was the Play Station. Nintendo and Sony were partnered up to create an addon for the Super Nintendo called the "Play Station". Nintendo and Sony had a disagreement, the deal broke up, and Sony took the sytem, worked on it a few more years, and renamed it the "Playstation", and released it as it's own system.

  • if nintendo stuck with this we could have sd cards to play games

  • they pretty much do that, nintendo DS games are similar to sd cards

  • holy shit is this the PS4?

  • no, it has to be the wii successor LOLZ!

  • I have this it fun!

  • I have one of these. And a huge bag of games. Many of the good ones were double-sided.

  • I played Japan's Super Mario Bros. 2 on that Disk System!

  • DUDE THIS IS BETTER then the PS3!

  • hey it came out 2/21/94 i'm as old as the famicon or am i

  • It came out in 1986.

  • thnx i'm stupid XD

  • actually it came out in 86

  • yeah atari94 you're right!!

  • WTF?!! this is a floppy not a disk of famicom

  • hey back then in the 80's floppys were the normal form for disks. also I think when someone opens a floppy I think the disk inside looks like a normal disk

  • Thats true coz i have opened an amiga500 floppy, there was black disk inside it. :)

  • Errrrr that thing looks fat and ugly. And the disks are in yellow and stuff :P

  • WHAT!? Its very stylistic! Its very cool! I just got it!

  • Heh, I don't own a NES but I find it pretty sad that The US got a bit shorter stick for NES by not having it's own FDS(Or in this case NESDS), Then again The US and UK(Well Sometimes in The UK's Case) Always Mostly gets The Shorter End Of The Stick! :p

And that's why for us everywere else When it comes to The US(And Sometimes The UK), We have stuff like Game Genie, Game Shark, And Action Replay! HA!

But when it came to Famicom and FDS Games, No Game Genie could help you there. -_-

  • @MikeArcade07 Australia did not fare better. Europe and Australia now gets the shorter end of the stick, while the US and Japan gets the cool stuff.

  • @joe9320 Sucks for you

  • I just love those old fashioned pre 80's designes,no matter if its cars or videogameconsoles.

  • Nintendo have to make the people to buy the disk system. It is because some games were only published on those disks.........I got one in 1993....Until this moment, I still don't know how to copy the disk by the system.......

  • 15,000 yen! thats more than the famicom's price!

  • Why is it that us americans only got a small amount of the peripherals the japanese got?

    (Revenge for WWII? :P*)

*I don't normally do this, but sorry if that offended you. strange, i'm usually able to joke about the most offensive things...

  • This is epic

  • What the keyboard family basic

  • Isn't that disk in PIKMIN 2 as a treasure?

  • Woah you're right

  • Yeah it is and what game it is? I don't know but I have a Famicom and disk System!

  • thats the original Zelda game.. and im jealous that you have one.. lol i have a gameboy printer and camera...thats dope right?

  • so do you need the disc drive and that white thing to play the famicom?

  • That "white thing" is actually the Famicom itself. You only need the Disk System for certain games that are stored on disk cards.

  • Thanks for filling em in.

  • 15,000 yen of 1980s cash... WOW.

  • DISKA SYSTAMU

  • i dont hav the nes or snes i hav the retroduo which plays games on both systems

  • I just took my FamiCom system out of storage yesterday and have it hooked up to my hidef lcd screen (chan 95 cable) playing super mario, super mario bros. 3, bomber king, tetris, even hooked up the 3d glasses and played animal gakuen & JJ .. I brought the FamiCom back with me from my time spent in japan. I also have Quinty, Spelunker, rocketman2, arkanoid 2 with controller, air fortress, hello kitty, and American Football. oh yea also twin bee 3 completes my collection.

  • Quinty... isn't that the one by Game Freak? It's crazy to think that they went on from that to someday create the Pokemon franchise.

Also, since you were playing it on a high-definition LCD screen, didn't you experience some input lag?

  • It ran pretty smoothly.. I ran it through a hdmi svhs player into my onkyo reciever which took the 480 resolution and brought it up to 720p which really looked good.. Game runs as good as the day I bought it!

  • @NeoGoemon did you know that game freak used to be a gaming magazine?

  • Doesn't everything look pixelated on an HDTV? and does it look like letter box? or is there a way to make show in widescreen mode? wouldn't that stretch the image too?

  • Haha, I just got mine which I bought off E-Bay in the mail today, going to hook it up in a bit!

  • Tell Sell Music!

  • Oh, I Like Very Much The Famicom Disk Sytem!

  • The *PLING!*-sound in the start is pure awesome :P

Yeah, this is power! The Disk System were capable of handling a special sound to the games (with a sound-chip), which is totally sweet!

Check out the "Famicom Dojo"-videos for more info.

Thanks for uploading this cool ad ;)

  • WHAT THE???

  • Its the japanese NES before it became cart based and released nation wide.

  • I like how the Disk system is bigger than Famicom itself

  • like a computer!

  • I don't know if anyone never noticed it..... Is that the beta version of Zelda playing? Something is wrong with it.

    1) Aqua.... (the first dungeon boss) guy is different.

    2) the block is in dungeon is different.

    3) Don't remember where you pick up bombs from Gleeok.

  • Oh forgot to mention, also the bomb looks silver instead of blue in the final.

  • (To go to any of my links, just add it to the end of youtube's main page's url)

It could just be changes in localization. I do know that they did have to redo some of the music for the NES version because the Disc System had more sound channels than the NES.

    /watch?v=Zd9EvzNpCmI

Compare the opening song in that video to the NES version.

    /watch?v=AfoCuPjFtX8

The Famicom Dojo videos detail some of the differences between the two consoles if you're interested.

    /user/SeanOrange

  • /watch?v=0Qt49QIlpsQ

This is a better video of the Famicom version's title screen.

  • I just bought this on eBay, at the same time i bought the fm towns marty. now i officially own every single mother fucking video game console in the world ahahaha

  • NOW YOUR PLAYING WITH POWER!

And stop thumb downing this guys' comments. I have eight different game consoles. You going to hate on me for it?

  • actually, anyone can get any console anywhere. ur not special, okay? there are sellers here in canada that sell famicom disk systems. its not like there is an invisible wall, preventing them from getting imported out of the country.

  • Quote: "...imported out of the country"

    err... you mean exported? lol

  • I want one

  • cool

    back to the 80s

  • oh shit i want this!

in europe we've got the nintedo entertainemnt system, not the famicom.

  • You're an idiot for believing this. The computer doesn't know your crushes name. dumbass.

  • それは古学校のゲームシステムである

  • any1 kno where i can get one of those or an nes?

  • that's pretty good video quility for such and old commercial..

  • A Disk System Ccommercial with no Diskun?

    INSTA-FAIL!! (Joke)

  • woo maaaaan retro games on floopy disks dood

  • what is wrong with carts?

  • They Were Expensive In Japan Back Then. So They Released Games On Floppy Disk To Sell Them For Cheaper + Battery Backup Was Expensive So They Used Floppy Disks To Saves Games On Themselves.

  • Isn'y it supposed to be a man and a little girl screaming at each other? I love that other advert. But even though this has great quality, it's a bit boring.

P.S. How did you get it onto youtube?

  • Great video quality!!! But it's missing the girl talking in front of the diskwriter XD

  • wow! great quality!

  • I have one.

  • Really? Wat does it actually do?

  • plays disk games

  • Gimme a few examples.

  • Um, ok, lemme explain, many games that were released in america on cartridges were only realeased in Japan on disks, or at least originally released for disks. These titles include zelda, zelda 2, castlevania, castlevania 2, metroid, kid icarus, mario 2 (jpn only), nazo no murasamejou (japan only). Games released on disk include save features which were sometimes removed in the american version. For example, you can save in the Japanese version of Metroid or Kid Icarus.

  • But in america, there's only a password feature for metroid and kid icarus. So thats one feature. Also the sound is better, because there is an extra sound channel on the disk system. There are about 200 disk system games.

  • omg, is DISKUN :D

  • Hey PokemonGuyX, you say you have plenty for sell? I am interested in buying one, but do you sell them cheaply?

  • i wanna get one !!

  • I used to have a famicom with a little cartridge adapter so I could play NES games also.

  • Buying the Famicom and the Famicom Disk System was one of my biggest dreams. Sadly, I never bought it. I did have the NES (obviously cuz everyone played it).

  • if you still want a Famicom i got a plenty for sell.

  • Cool! But I gotta save up on that though. But then again, I've played all of the good Famicom/FDS games on the emulators.

  • coo! u take credit cards? or money orders?

  • The disk system is awesome!

    The famicom have great sound!

  • Famicom emulated on GBA, DS, and GP2X in split screen:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FudRkevL1wk

  • Classic.

  • ya japanese commercials rule...stupid cheezy american ones..

  • That's awesome. I love the japanese version of the NES :D
